Everything in Torn revolves around the money. Gyms, weapons, armour, property; the connecting thread is having the money to pay for it. There are plenty of ways to make money in Torn City, but one of the most accessible for new players is to sell those items you have found around the city. While anyone can put an item on the market, it costs you 3% of the value; if you can scrape together 250 points, it’s much more effective to buy yourself a bazaar.
I have interviewed several of the owners of the top grossing bazaars, and put some questions to them; perhaps if you read between the lines, you will be the next Torn tycoon!
There was a general consensus that to be at the top of the tree for bazaars took time and dedication – anywhere from six to twelve hours online in a trading day. Some players dedicated a day or two a week to trading, others were up and running every day
Most stock comes from other bazaars; there is always someone who needs the money quickly and who is willing to undercut the market to get it. However, several of the top traders also have runners who bring them flowers and drugs stock from overseas.
Having spoken about stock, most of the top marketers are willing to trade anything and everything, though everyone had their preferences. Having said that, they were looking for a high turnover of stock rather than a big profit from a single sale. Drugs like xanax and ecstasy, boosters like erotic DVDs and feathery hotel coupons, all types of energy cans and medical items will sell quickly and give you an immediate profit. Crime enhancers, cars and flowers are good places to look, as well. However, the thread that ran right through was to know the market. Every item has a range that the price moves through; the key is to know that range, buy low and sell high.
When it came to items that traders wouldn’t trade, it was mostly high-value items that would sell very slowly like dual weapons or staff collectibles, unless the price was too good to be ignored. A couple of traders mentioned bulk weapons and armour as another area to stay clear of until the RESPO changes have worked through the system for fear of five thousand pistols unstacking in their bazaar!
As far as listing stock goes, check, check and double check your prices. Every single trader warned against missing that final zero off your price and giving away an absolute bargain. Whether it was caesium, xanax or feathery hotel coupons, one slip of a finger could eat up a day’s profit.
And finally, I asked each of my interviewees for one piece of advice to a new player who has just bought a bazaar. And here they are:
Start with a small list of things to trade, and expand from there. Don’t try to sell everything at first because you sometimes have to make quick decisions.
Keep it simple , study the market and prices a bit before starting selling, then the real trading can begin.
And finally - Use your bazaar!! Even if you’re making 1k profit on an item, use it, all your profit builds and builds up and you will look back and think to yourself ‘damn, where would I be if I didn’t do all this.’
