Down and Dirty

What’s the REAL cause of the recent stock market’s decline? Is it simply the normal correction of a market due to the laws of supply and demand? Or is it something more? Something manipulated, something deliberate – something designed to become a financial black hole that will attract the unsuspecting Torn investor with the allure of low share prices, yet may be designed to devastate the Torn City economic landscape by bankrupting thousands of Torn City players in a precipitous market bloodbath.

Such an idea is not as farfetched as some might believe. A careful analysis of overall stock ticker prices at each 15 minute interval has some people claiming that a pattern is emerging that could spell disaster for Torn shareholders. One long time Torn player, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims to have discovered a message to “insiders” that is embedded into a numerical code found in the 15 minute stock prices. These numbers are published for everyone to see, but, according to this player, only a few can decipher the cryptic message that is setting the stage for the coming financial collapse.

Another source claims to be on the inside of a massive conspiracy to manipulate the stock prices daily, and says its coming from within the exclusive Chedburn elite. Does Chedburn know what his favored advisors are doing? This source says it would be impossible for him not to. And who are these Torn advisors? A private investigator who looked into this allegation says there might be some substance to the allegations. In an internal memo that some claim was obtained from Chedburn’s own corporate offices, no fewer that 46 players have the letters “CHEDB” in their user name. A coincidence? Some believe that most of these 46 players are not players at all, but rather are Chedburn operatives who have infiltrated the very fabric of Torn City life, from factions to ---- the stock market. And that they are simply awaiting orders to destabilize the Torn City economy by using an apparently random and unexpected stock collapse.

Many Torn players simply cant accept the idea that there is a conspiracy at the deepest levels of Chedburn’s command. After all, why would he want to wipe out so many fortunes that have been built up over so many years? Wouldn’t that alienate a large segment of players who might protest with their wallets and simply not buy any more donator packs? That’s a sound argument against the idea of a manipulated stock collapse – if one vital fact is overlooked. That fact is the desire of Torn old-timers to go “back to the future” and take Torn back to the way it was before Torn got so big, before prices became stratospheric, and before the many so-called “noob ideas” changed the very fabric of Torn’s daily life with Stock Markets, Item Markets, and Auction Houses.

Yes these recidivists are not interested in the game of monopoly. They are the hard core crime and mayhem crowd who long for the early days of Torn when playing was new and rules were few. And some think they plan on using the bane of their existence as symbolized by the stock market to financially ruin those who have played more in the various markets when they should have been cavorting in the dark alley ways of murder, crime and the unpleasant underbelly of human vice.

Will the conspirators succeed, if in fact they actually do exist? Are there secret messages being broadcast daily in the stock tickers? Is there a select group of insiders that are planning an economic coup to turn back the clock on Torn City? These are questions that nag at the subconscious until they fester into discontent. They are questions that deserve further investigation.
