My Journey

One of the great things about games, like Torn, is that there are many different playing styles. A previous article has touched on just a few of these. Within this article I will reveal my journey, from joining Torn 3087 days ago, to the present day.

People started the game in many different ways. Some introduced by friends and some stumbled into the city by accident. I started playing when two of my cousins introduced me to the game. Torn wasn't the first crime game I took an interest in, but it was the only one that kept it for more than a week. So what captured my gamer side? Well it is hard to recall, as Torn was very different back then, but it was still, in my opinion, a well worked game that had a whole host of different features. Above all else I liked how you could buy a donator pack with in game money, meaning that players who didn't/couldn't spend real money still had the chance to enjoy the perks of being a donator.

I started competing with my cousins to see who could get the best gun and do the highest damage. Visits to the gym were as often as they were in real life, rare. The three of us plodded along in our own little world, content with excluding all other players, till one day we decided to join a small faction. It was here I first saw that Torn had a massive community, and began meeting new people and noticed that these people we excluded weren't all that bad, for the most part.

I got more and more captivated by the game, even obsessed for a time. Other games came and went, but Torn endured. Once I thought I had mastered being in a faction, I moved to a bigger faction, Destructive Anomaly, and found I hadn't mastered faction as I thought I had. As it turned out, I hadn't noticed many of the games features, never mind mastered. The stock market, chaining, forums, competitions, mugging, banking had all eluded me. I began to dabble in each of these and make more money, and the more money I made the more greedy I got, and I found myself standing at the doors of Lucky Shots Casino.

Yep, many people have complained and boasted about their failures and successes at that casino. My mind said to turn away and go back to my palace, but a part of me wanted one of the thousands of private islands, that conveniently hug the shores of the city. So I risked it all! At the end of my stint at the casino, a 3 set to 0 win by Robin Söderling and a 4-2 victory of Swansea City over Hull City meant that I was a rich man, and yes that is me boasting. From here things got easier. I was able to live nicely from the interest I got from the bank and learn more about the ins and outs of the city. Money, it seems, does make the Torn world go round.

I got more involved in faction happenings and the game got more fun, chaining with a respected faction against other great factions gave me the chance to join in with “smack talk” between factions and build relationships with other members, both from DA and other factions. None more so than a certain HenkiePuk. He is the co-leader of Destructive anomaly, and as I was looking to get more involved in faction happenings, he was on the receiving end of my endless mails consisting of mostly gibberish, but mixed in with faction happenings. As with most factions, people have a strong sense of pride and respect for their faction, and are willing to spend great amounts of time staring at a white screen to help their faction grow. I was no different, and a large part of my journey was spent helping the faction in any way I could. Busting and training took precedence as I worked towards attempting a political assassination and being a big hitter in wars, the latter not yet achieved.

Finally, we come to the present day. I am now filling in as co-leader for HenkiePuk and writing for the Torn City Times. What I will do next I haven’t a clue, but I am sure that I will be sticking around for years to come.
