Most of Torn are either in a faction or have been in one before, and factions add a huge amount to Torn life. It is in factions where members work together, fight together and grow together. Over the coming months, I will be trying to piece together the history of some of the great and upcoming factions in Torn today, starting with HT.
Hattrick, more commonly known as HT, is a long standing faction and its current leader, HT-Supermikk [108922], has shed light on some of the key goings on at HT over the years.
The name Hattrick originates from a soccer manager game that a lot of the HT members played before coming to Torn. It was from this game that around 200 guys, and maybe one girl, came and started playing Torn City. 201 people joining a game together as companions is quite impressive on its own, and must have had Chedburn [1] ecstatic at the sight of 201 people joining his new game. However, the 201 isn’t what I find most interesting, it is the fact that the 200 guys and 1 girl were all Norwegian. To begin with the 201 members created factions, around 10, and competed with one another. As the competition in Torn started to rise the top guys joined the main faction, HT.
In the early days HT was a Norwegian exclusive faction, and outsiders were not permitted to join. This had its benefits, but also proved to contribute to their loss of dominance. There are many great players that were part of HT; MaxManus [834584], Gargoyle [108957], --Jobo-- [383139] and even Chedburn’s right hand women, -Clansdancer [65306], was part of this great faction. Being all Norwegian there was a high level of trust, and in the early days elections were held every two months to decide who their new leader would be. This is something that never happened in any other faction and is not likely to be repeated in the future.
For many years HT were the number one faction, and no one could touch them. They were the first faction to reach 100,000 respect, and it was a long while before anyone joined them at the mountain top. To start with BH were their main rival faction, that is until a certain JFK came into the picture. It was with these two factions HT had its biggest wars, and Supermikk still considers JFK their “main target”.
However, HT’s rule did come to an end and they are but a shadow of their former selves. According to Supermikk there are a few reasons that caused the faction to fall in to a deep slumber, which has only recently been disturbed. Firstly, being a Norwegian only faction, less Norwegians compared to non-Norwegians where joining Torn resulting in other factions growing in number and strength. The wish of some members to only allow Norwegians into the faction, coupled with other strict requirements to join, meant HT struggled to recruit and keep up with other factions. Furthermore, the well-known bugs of the game such as self-busting and the billions of dollars people made from the old stock market, meant that members gaming experience and motivation to play the game dwindled, and then stopped altogether.
In recent weeks an effort to restore HT has begun, and was spurred on by the upcoming changes to warring and factions. Although the methods used by -Jobo- have come in to question, there is no doubt people are watching HT’s progress with keen eyes.
This is just a brief history of a 15 page long script that has now been lost, but HT is and always will be a faction worth remembering.
