Torn was created in the year 2003 and since its creation it has seen many changes and additions to the game. Torn has come a long way since being created. This article will look at some of the game mechanics and features that have been revolutionised over the years.
We will begin by looking at Energy and Nerve, which are the two things that the game revolves around. Energy has many different uses; training, attacking, reviving and searching, and it is up to each player to decide what they want to do with it. Till recently, nerve had one use only, which was to commit crimes. Now busting has started consuming nerve rather than energy. As frequent fliers may know, energy used to be called Awake. This was because at the time Torn started Awake was a common name used in text based games.
"I later thought it made more sense to use energy. I saw it used on a mech-bot type game in the machine sense, and thought it'd work a lot better here in terms of the bodily sense."

It is a similar story for Nerve, in fact when the game started there was no such thing as Nerve. Crimes used to be on a timer. For example, you would commit a crime and then would have to wait a certain amount of time, say 7 minutes, till you could try another one, the time you had to wait varied depending on the crime you committed. Players then suggested that having a Crime bar would be much better, and a few years down the line the name was changed to Nerve. The number of crimes started small and more were added as time went on.
"The new crimes system will have at least 30 crimes in total, when the entire system is built. And will be far more advanced."

The casino is something that a lot of player get involved it, whether it be to buy a single ticket for the lottery or betting $1,000,000,000 in the bookies. Not all the casino games around today were always present. The game started with simple versions of High low and Craps and grew from there, introducing Blackjack, Chess, Slots, Poker, Roulette and Keno, one of which may be removed soon.
"There are at least two brand new casino games planned, with Russian Roulette becoming a casino game I hope this year."

Banking was something that changed while I was playing. If I am correct, banking money for 3 months used to give 50% interest, may have been every month, which is significantly higher than the rates today. It changed while I was a young player and ruined my plans to get rich quick.
Finally, I am going to look at travelling. You can only travel once you are level 15 and this has been around for a long time. The first destination to be added was Hawaii. At the time of the first destination being added there was no intention of adding more travel destinations, but it wasn't long before El Cascado, a fictional city in Mexico was added. This led to being able to buy items abroad, and the destinations we see today were then added.
"I'm hoping to add North Korea (via China) as part of one of the new story-line missions in the future."

It is clear that Torn is always seeing new updates and changes to the game, big and small, and not all of them approved by all. Personally, I like the fact that Torn has a large team of developers continuously working to bring updates to our screens, liked or disliked.
