Eeeeekkk.....A Bug!

If you check out the "Bugs & Issues" forum, you will see a whole host of bugs that the developers are working to resolve. However, there have been some pretty big loop holes in the game that, in hindsight, could be considered bugs. This article will take a look at some of these loop holes. Most of these are well known to a lot of people in Torn, but some may not have been aware of them. So this will be a nice history lesson on what these unfortunate souls missed out on.

Lets start with one of the older loop holes, the infamous old stock market. The stock market hasn't always been like it is today. Under the new market, people make their millions, under the old market, people made their billions. Of course, people can still make billions from today's market, but no where near as much as under the old one. To my understanding, people would buy a particular stock and drive the price up by buying more of the stock before the 15 minute update. In those days, stocks would sell instantly, which meant you could reinvest in another low value stock and drive the price up. I remember giving my money to an investor, and I would get around 40-50% more back every week! If you knew what you were doing or knew the right people, you could make some serious dollar.

Booster cool downs are another hole that meant some players benefited quite a bit. However, this isn't really a loop hole, but it still gave an advantage to older players. Back in the day, booster such as Feathery Hotel Coupons, holiday items and Stat enhancers didn't have a cool down period like they do today. And you guessed it; it meant you could use 100 stat enhancers in 100 seconds to double a stat of your choosing. Furthermore, though less extreme, the hole allowed people to get their "use 50,000 medical items" merit a lot easier. This was done by drugging up till they hit the glass wall when visiting the gym then using a medical item to get out, and repeat this till you got the merit. It is worth noting that stat enhancers haven't always been as expensive as they are today, after all when the highest player had 10 million stats, what worth is a 1% increase. On the other hand, stat enhancers havent always been as cheap as they are today, peaking at $1,200,000,000-$1,500,000,000 before Nikeh sports came into the picture. It is a similar story with Feathery Hotel Coupons costing around $80,000,000-$150,000,000 before cool downs. Saying this, there was a lot of money still floating around from the old stock market. In addition to the money made in the stock market, the bookies didn't have a cap on how much you could bet. Result, people winning upwards of a $100,000,000,000 on one bet, some even won close to $500,000,000,000. In this case, a couple of billion was mere pocket change.

The final loop hole I am going to mention is busting. There have been two loop holes with busting, one only recently amended. The first is the famous self-busting. When self-busting was introduced, for every successful self-bust you would gain a percentage of your dexterity. This was a problem. People would keep getting jailed and then bust themselves out, thus gaining a percentage of their dexterity. Obviously, the more you self-busted, the higher your dexterity would climb, the higher your dexterity the higher dexterity gain you got from self-busting. This resulted in some player having billions of dexterity, and when I say billion, I mean over 10-15 billion. To put that in perspective. I can gain around 30-35 million a week using Feathery Hotel Coupons, natural energy, refill and Xanax. That means it would take me close to 2000 days to get close to these guys, and dont forget the 8000 Feathery Hotel Coupons I would need.

It is too early to make any clear cut conclusions, but the second loop hole for busting involves the more recent change to busting. Chedburn [1] stated in his announcement, that under the previous busting system you gained a percentage of your busting experience. So your crime experience would grow exponentially, the more you busted the more you would gain. Whereas now, you gain a set amount. Is this set amount anywhere near what we used to gain? And should the experience gain be as large as it was? Till now busting was known to be a sure fire way to boost you crime experience significantly. Under the new system, this may not continue to be the case. The increased difficulty means people will need to be more tactical about their busts, which isn't such a bad change. Never the less, this could leave those with loads of busts at an advantage, and those with few at a disadvantage. However, it is a recent update and nothing is set in stone, so a little patience won't go a miss, however hard it is not to get what you want straight away.

Most of these, if not all of them, are well known to most. However, they do raise a few questions. Did the developers know about the loop holes, or did anyone care to report them? And why did they take so long to rectify? Saying this, there was nothing illegal about taking advantages of these loop holes, and, had I been paying attention at the time, I am sure I would have jumped on the band wagon, as would most. After all, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
