Since factions were introduced to the game in 2005, many factions have come and gone. In this series of articles we will try and unearth some of the history of the great factions of the past that are no longer around.

Secret Service (SS) was one of the factions that started before factions were officially introduced. Several friends got together and starting playing Torn City, as it was then called, in a school library. Secret Service was almost going to be called Zegaba, which was an inside joke in reference to their high school group. However, the founder and members liked the military ring of Secret Service, and so the faction was named. Funnily enough, the founder of Secret Service, dj_dan [947267], is now in the military himself, serving in the Canadian Forces. Some of the members that were part of SS where: dj_dan [947267], DarK_PheoniX [3403], Misseh [5518], L4suicide [15699], DarkGhost [7012], OutsiDer [52235] and many more that are no longer playing the game.

SS where one of the top factions when factions were first introduced. One of the reasons was that SS came into the game so early, so there wasn't many other factions that were looking for wars and a fight, which allowed them to grow. Secondly, many of the SS members at the time knew each other in real life, which made it easier to communicate and organise more precisely than other factions. One of the members in SS was actually friends with Chedburn [1] in real life. Furthermore, the whole factions were loving playing the game.

Big rivals at the time included SUN, 39th Street Killers and 4BK, led by Sniper-4BK [4802]. The first war SS got involved in was with SUN. The war lasted a week and ended with an SS surrender, which meant giving up their weapons, a $25,000 fee and a ceasefire. They later went on to war with SUN four more times.

The day factions went live, a lot of SS members were up in till midnight trying to make sure they were one of the first to create a faction. dj_dan had all of SS money, around $7,000,000, on hand ready to buy a faction, which inevitably led to him being mugged to a point his own faction members had to hospitalise him. SS at their peak had many sub factions such as SS-Elite, SS-Vanguard, SS-USSR, SS-NOW and SS-NWA. As the years went on, SS began to struggle as they became less active and prominent members were recruited by factions that had more time for the game.

As mentioned before, many of the original members of SS started the game together and, as they grew older, had less and less time to give to the game. This led to the loss of a lot of member in a small time frame. After two massive wars, WW1 and WW2, SS were significantly weakened. Members left the faction and alliances were broken. The original SS got the faction ID: 4, but as SS lost activity and members they were destroyed.
