As we have seen in previous articles, Torn's HOF factions have a remarkable and long history that date back many years. Out of the 2500+ factions in Torn today a huge, huge, portion of them will be filled with inactive members which have joined the slow road to deletion, others are peaceful and some used for keeping money safe. Take away these and you will see that there is just as much war mongering lower down the ranks, perhaps more so than in HOF these days. And so the lamp turns on Calculated.
Purchased around two years ago by ghosty [1348728], Calculated have been shooting up the ranks ever since. As a rule of thumb most faction dont give away freebies, however HOF factions, with their rich owners and organised crime money, can more than provide supplies for wars. This was what inspired the name Calculated. They could not afford big cash prizes, points, drugs and FHCs that other factions could, but survived by carefully calculating, funnily enough the name of their sub faction, how much the faction can afford. This could also explain that when I asked for the names of members that did a lot for the faction, the list I received was basically a list of all the whole faction. The list comprised of the people that were chaining hard when the faction had few specials and little else to offer, apart from an awesome environment to have fun and chain. Of course all factions had to start with a few specials, but to start a faction now is one hell of a challenge, with all the other factions out there with maxed out specials and a lot of the top chainers.
Due to Calculated having so many young and aggressive chainers, that wanted to give their spare time and even money to the faction, climbing up the ranks was never hard.

And number they do have. Calculated are nearing the maximum capacity, but they also have a sub faction, Calculating, that is by no means struggling for members either. Its not outrageous to think that all Calculated are missing are a few more big hitters to start giving current HOF faction something to worry about. And with the crazy chaining they are doing to rise up, I would not be surprised if they out chain some of the top factions.
It hasn't been plain sailing for Calculated. A week long war against Momento Mori, which they lost, was a huge test for them and some didn't come out the other side. Many members left and the faction went into a rebuilding phase. Furthermore, a dirty bombing of Calculating by severe_torture [381978] left a mark, all be it a small one. The dirty bomb didn't destroy the faction, and so a hefty sum of over $20,000,000,000 may have left a greater mark on severe_torture than on Calculating.
It is factions like Calculated that make me wish that I was part of my faction the day it was made. Today I give all I can to help my faction, but I feel building a faction from the ground up is a different experience all together.
So the take home message from me: The upcoming factions can give just as much as the HOF factions, so when deciding which faction to join think about more than specials.
