So far, my reporting has taken me on a grand tour of the city, from Christmas markets to Abandoned Theatres. In my quest for information, I have been engaged in long enticing conversations with various leaders, with a cup of tea in one hand and my pen in the other. Other times, I prefer to take casual late night strolls through the cities safer neighborhood, which are few in number, looking for the next big news.
But recently, I was inspired to step out of my comfort zone and be a tad bit more daring with my reporting. I braved the streets of Torn, and in the process, uncovered a hidden secret in our city.
It all started when I received an anonymous tip from a "concerned citizen" - it read:
"Dear IIIlusionist,
I am writing to you as I don't know where else to turn.
On the evening of 15th January 2015, while walking around the city, I happened to stumble by a strange building. I thought nothing of it at first, but as I was about to turn away, I gazed to the road ahead and saw a dim light flicker, which revealed a door. Again I thought nothing of it, but then I saw a cloaked man walk out the door and jump into a car and speed off. I have lived in this city a long time and have seen my fair share of shifty characters, but this man was considerably more strange than others. My gut tells me that there is something going on in that building, but I have not the courage to investigate myself.
Would you help put my mind at ease and investigate this building further? I feel there is a story for you there.
Sincerely
Concerned Citizen"
After reading and pondering over the note, my curiosity got the better of me and I found myself parked that evening not too far from the strange old building. A few hours into my stake out, a man walked out. The concerned citizen was right! there was something awfully foul about this man.
Just as the concerned citizen described, the man walked into his car and sped off into the night. I waited until I felt the man had left....and then waited a little longer just to be safe.
I stepped out the car and, stealthily, walked towards the door. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary with the building and I began to think the so called "concerned citizen" was more of a "crazed lunatic citizen" that had wasted my time. Having busted my fair share of inmates from the city jail, breaking into this building was not all that difficult - in fact it was harder to get into this building that it is to get in and out of jail.
I was in! It was dark, and all my eyes could make out was a long corridor with a single door at the end.
*Note to self - Carry flashlight at all times.*
I followed the eerie and dark corridor until I arrived at the door. As I opened the door, the room was even darker than the last, and cold. I began stumbling around the room searching for the light switch, when I came across something rather interesting. A folder marked "Vampires Formula". I opened the folder, and my heart sank it was filled with charts that made no sense. I found a memo titled "Medical 2.0 initiative" and "Nerfdarevive". Most of the memo had been crossed out, but some words could be understood. It read "Inject...blood...specimen...AB+...A+..."
After a little searching I found what I thought to be a long bed, the sort you find in hospitals, and shortly after was stabbed by a rather large needle - ouch! A little more searching and I felt a large container. My curiosity took over once again, and before I knew it i had opened the door to the container and was peering inside - it was some sort of fridge. Inside were plastic bags filled with a dark liquid that I couldn't identify, and to the side a needle for injecting. It was cold and slightly thicker than water - didn't seem dangerous. Curiosity will be the death of me I thought, and found myself injecting the liquid.
I expected to drop to the ground onto my face, but quite the opposite happened. The moment the substance entered my veins I felt rejuvenated and more alive than I had all day. I could almost feel my recent wounds healing and my mind being refreshed. This stuff was better than morphine!....and more addictive too! As my vision improved, I noticed the walls were covered with rows upon rows of these bags.
I picked up another bag, this time, with my vision being somewhat improved after drinking the last bag, I noticed the letters "AB+" written on the label. I didn't stop to think what the letters meant, and injected the next bag. Next thing I know, I collapsed.
Once I regained consciousness, I compared the two bags and they were identical except from the letters "AB+" and "A+". I was no longer curious, my vision blurred, and began feeling like I had not slept in days. I wanted to explore more, but my vision was getting worse and I needed some air before I collapsed again. I made it outside and back into my car - I breathed a sigh of relief.
I quickly jotted down everything I had seen and done:
"- Plastic bags in fridge filled with a dark liquid (that sort of tasted like blood) - and the letter "AB+" and "A+"
- One made me feel alive, the other....not so much
- Hospital bed with a large sized needle next to it
- A folder containing a memo with the words "Medical 2.0 initiative" and "Nerfdarevive"
I drove home and arrived at my island shortly after 1:00 AM. I needed to rest so decided to have a quick shower before bed. Once in the bathroom, I looked in the mirror and I found that I was covered in a dark reddish liquid!
What was this strange liquid that made me feel alive and then dead? Whatever is was, and whoever was making it, they were defiantly set up for mass production, and the city of Torn seemed to be the intended consumer.
