Know Your City - Forums

The forums are a great place to engage in discussion and get annoyed, meet new people and create new enemies, voice your opinion and be ignored. I take on a backseat approach to the forums, looking at what goes on from afar rather than posting. There are, in my opinion, a few types of people that roam the forums.

Lets start with my personal favourites, "Trolls". Trolls, for those of you that dont know, are people who prowl the forums looking for any chance to derail a thread and inspire chaos. Some find them annoying, while others enjoy the read; I myself am quite amused by their comments. One of the most famous trolls is Evil-Duck [1182047]. Even the name is enough to send shivers down your spine and move your cursor to the x button. However, the name is also enough to draw your eyes for a cheeky glance at his latest antics. Maybe his most famous troll was when he announced he would be planting a dirty bomb on a faction of his choosing. He had everyone at the edge of their seats, and we are still twiddling our thumbs, or, more likely, most came to the realisation, a second after it was posted, that there was no dirty bomb. Evil-Duck is by no means the only troll in Torn, but I believe I have done enough damage by mentioning the name, mentioning more will do more harm than good; an ego boost is the last thing they need.

However, there is also useful information to be found in the forums. The Question and Answers section is excellent for players to find answers to their questions, although the answer may take a while to get to whilst people discuss why they are right and argue with each other. There are many guides available, for those not too lazy to search for them, from Bogie's [148747] drug guide to Doc-Holliday's [1015507] education/war guide. These type people are the closest thing to helpful you are likely see.

There are many other sections to the forum, both for Torn and non-Torn matters. The suggestion section is overflowing with ideas that people would like to see implemented, and there are some pretty interesting ideas in there. There are also the trading and recruitment sections which are probably the most active. The graphics forum is one section that I visit more regularly, although I post rarely and have little graphic skill outside of paint. Before RESPO, the graphics forum was a hostile environment to say the least. From what I saw, it was dominated largely by veterans that had been around for a long time. New blood would find it difficult to get a foothold in the forum, and their art would quickly be torn down, no pun intended, if it didn't meet the standards set by the community. However, after the RESPO update, the forum seems more relaxed, with more of the veterans creating a more inviting atmosphere and encouraging new talent. It is a refreshing change and will hopefully allow artist and their art to thrive and grow. It does seem to have got a lot less active, maybe because less people outside of the gfx community are interested in purchasing art, or maybe the artist are just not producing the goods to keep it active enough. The graphics forum has always been an interesting place, not always for its art.

Whether you are looking for information, to join in a discussion or just passing the time, the forum is always active and interesting. And the ever watchful eye of Sweeney_Todd [27468], Torns grave keeper, is looming over the forums ready to cut down any derailed thread, more so on a Tuesday.

"I only enjoy locking threads on a Tuesday, as that is the day I call myself Mrs Lovett..."
