The Torn Easter Egg hunt marked the start of the new competition system, and was the first official competition since the RESPO update (excluding Christmas/community events). Competitions will now start on the 5th of the month and continue for 21 days.
The "Scavenger Hunt", as it was first introduced, started way back in 2010, 1st April to be exact (13:15:08 to be even more exact). In 2010 you only needed to collect 6 eggs! This number was increased to 9 the following year, and some players continue to circulate rumors about an increase to 11 eggs - including a rainbow egg that will provide a special boost - yet to be officially announced.
The new competition system introduces a new rewards system, building on the original idea of receiving exclusive rewards. Previously, the 9 different colored eggs were exchangeable for one golden egg collectible, points, and an honor bar. Under the new improvements, in addition to these rewards, players now gain tokens based on their performance, which can be spent in the new token shop. At the moment, tokens only unlock new honor bars which come with a free merit, but we will see other rewards added in the future.
A big talking point of the competition was the frequency at which the eggs appeared - the "spawn rate". Chedburn [1] stated that the spawn rate started fairly low and it would be adjusted as the competition went on. After some personal investigation on the forums in "General Discussion", the vast majority of competition-based threads including some kind of rant about not being able to find eggs, despite vast amounts of effort. So how was the spawn rate changed? At the end of the competition the spawn rate was 10x what it was at the start of the competition. What's more, if you found an egg, the spawn rate would decrease a little, meaning the more eggs you found the harder it got to find them. It all starts to make sense, kind of.
Now, imagine you are sat at your computer/console/mobile clicking away - your bloodshot eyes scan the screen rapidly searching for an egg, your fingers rapidly click to refresh the screen, and you have all but given up hoping to find an egg, when.....

Finally, the time has come to claim your egg and....wait....nope....you accidentally clicked to the next page. The egg is gone forever. You begin to mourn your lost egg, before resuming to refresh the page in search of another.
This was another big talking point during the competition - people missing eggs they saw at the last second, by which time they had refreshed or clicked to another page. Here are some facts:
A few more quick fire facts:

- Number of eggs spawned: 96,832
- Number of eggs collected: 27,483
A few more quick fire facts:
- Eggs that gave (crime) experience gave a static amount, not a percentage of your total experience.
- You could in fact find eggs on the item page, it was the result of a script on the item page that accidentally caused the Easter Eggs link not to be highlighted like so:
- 9,331 people found at least 1 egg
- There are no official discussion for more eggs to be added!
