On the 2nd of April, the Night Racers will pay tribute to one of the finest racing drivers in the history of Torn with a brand new competition dedicated to the late, great Wuggington.
"Wuggington is one of the greatest racers in the history of torn. Even years after his death he is still on the record boards for top times. I feel lucky to have had him as a friend and had his advice early on in my racing career. I have tried to pass on the same advice to new racers." Guy_Smiley
Prior to his tragic passing just over two years ago, Wuggington was the dominant force on the Torn City racing scene. His records on Uptown and Mudpit stood for years, with his times only being surpassed in recent months. To this day he remains on the global record leaderboards for five tracks, with Wuggington's 4th best times on Uptown and Sewage joined by 5th best times on Mudpit, Meltdown and Speedway. It is for this reason that competition organiser Guy_Smiley has chosen these tracks for the basis of the Night Racers Tribute to Wuggington.
"Before he passed he was probably the best racer in the game, holding records on just about every track, but Mudpit is the track that he was the ultimate god, holding all the top lap times, and almost two years after his death he still holds some top lap times on 5 tracks. Those are the tracks we are racing."
One of those who knew Wuggington best was Navin, who was his friend for over fifteen years, and his best friend for ten. Their paths crossed over weekly poker games and Rock Band sessions, and when they weren't rocking out with their band 'Dead Hooker Farts', the pair could be found drinking Red Stripe and Banana Daiquiris on the island of Jamaica.
"I will never forget seeing the Iron Maiden and King Yellowman shows live. Thunder!! Lightning!! Hookers!! Some of you knew him irl even longer than me and others just from the awesome chat conversations. If you race you most definitely lost to him."
"Nothing else to say except rest in peace my friend."
In a short chat, Navin recalled how excited Wuggington was when the new racing system was introduced to Torn City. With stat monsters and rich folks dominating the game even back then, the race track offered up an opportunity for all players to compete in a new arena entirely as equals.
"Since it was a fresh slate and nobody had an advantage he was determined to make it to the top. Lots of people were advancing quickly, class E, class D, class C then class B. He decided to only use a few of his points on upgrading the B class car as I and most others were trying to get to A as quick as possible. Others made class A.....he was lagging behind in B class scraping in a few points here and there with his gimped car."
"Ultimately his plan was genius. Maybe 2 weeks later he hit A class with enough points to add a TON of upgrades onto his first A class car and started winning race after race. After that it was just a matter of raking in points to upgrade other cars and try out different suspension layouts on the tracks until he found the best layout. Racing different combos over and over and keeping meticulous notes made him the racing legend he is."
"Although he would never give away his secrets to anyone he was always willing to help out and steer you in the right direction. Still amazes me that after over two years he still has records."
An example of Wuggington's helpful nature can be seen in this post by Nobody, inspired by the recent passing of the beloved Philistine, in which he describes how the final message ever sent to him by the racing legend included advice on how to set yourself up as a premium class racer. I never encountered the man myself, but it is clear how well liked Wuggington was by the racing community. And two years on from his passing, the Night Racers Wuggington Tribute seems a fitting way to pay homage to his enduring memory.
So how can you join in? Well, first of all, you need some decent cars, $240,000 and the details of the competition. The action kicks off on Easter Monday with qualifiers at Uptown, Sewage, Meltdown and Speedway taking place over four days for Class E drivers. This will be followed by four days of Class D qualifiers from 6th-9th, Class C qualifiers from 10th-13th, Class B qualifiers from 14th-17th and Class A qualifiers from 18th-21st, with driver placings to be determined using the following points system:
1st place 5 points
2nd place 4 points
3rd place 3 points
4th place 2 points
5th place 1 point
Track record 1 bonus point
At the end of qualifying, the five drivers with the most points on each individual track will progress through to the Mudpit finale which runs from 22nd-26th. This event will see 20 drivers battle it out over five races in different classes, with the qualifying points system being used to crown an overall winner after the final Class A Mudpit race on the 26th.
The prize pool for this competition shows how well regarded both the Night Racers and Wuggington are, with over $1 billion on offer at present. This fund is to be split between the top three drivers on a 70/20/10 basis, and the overall winner will also receive a Racing Coin donated by Guy_Smiley and a rare Audi S3 supplied by Torn. Winners from each track will take home a Donator Pack too, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to win big for those with a predetermined, deep-seated need for extreme quantities of the kinematic measurement known as speed.

This competition is a welcome breath of fresh air for the racing community, with too much unnecessary drama having overshadowed the sport of late. Let us hope that the Night Racers Tribute to Wuggington therefore represents a turning of the page, and that petrol heads from all over Torn will join forces to race and pay tribute to this legendary driver.
