New record stands at nine hours, forty minutes, forty-one seconds. Chain report kept hidden for unconfirmed reasons. 1,447 cans used.
Pushing the boundaries is not everyone's idea of fun, but when it comes to JFA 2.0 such acts appear to be the norm. The faction that continually pushes themselves to do better once again proved themselves to be on top form earlier this month when they broke the 10k chain record in a time of 9 hours 40 minutes and 41 seconds.

I have it on good authority that Mightygoober is in the process of writing an article on all the old chaining HoF records as well as those which have been set recently. I look forward to seeing that, and I hope he doesn't mind me sharing one of the records he'll likely include. It was Chain Reaction who were responsible for the previous record, hitting a 10k chain in 16 hours, 47 minutes and 52 seconds. But with the new record of 9:40:41 that means that JFA 2.0 absolutely smashed it, knocking 7 hours, 7 minutes and 11 seconds off the previous best time.
So how did they do it? Well, faction turnout was one key part, as 97 JFA 2.0 members participated out of a potential 100. Consistency was also important, as 10,000 attacks were made in under ten hours equating to 1,034 attacks per hour or 17.2 attacks every minute. Then there was preparation. 250,000 energy was expended on successful attacks, and the 350 losses incurred also cost the faction a total of 8750 energy.
Without these losses, I estimate this chain could have been achieved 21 minutes faster.I was asked not to provide the chain report link, so I've gleaned the most pertinent information from it instead. The most respect gained by one individual during the chain was 4931, but the least respect gained was 0. The most respect gained from a single hit was 4239.36, and the most attacks made by one person during the chain was 169. In total, 60 members made more than 100 attacks during the chain.
I reached out to JFA 2.0 leader Four to provide some input into how the preparation for this chain helped them achieve such a great feat. According to him, all JFA 2.0 members were approached on an individual basis a week in advance to determine whether they would be available on Sunday the 15th at 15:00 Torn City Time. Any players unable to chain at said time were moved to the JFA main faction, with JFA main members moving across to 2.0 to replace them.
There was one guest in the chain: Endurvoextur. All 100 members were expected to be fully stacked and anyone who made less than 40 hits during the chain was kicked from the faction unless they had a valid reason. The highest JFA main member was 15th in the list of total attacks made. Overall, just eight members from JFA main participated in the event.
To keep a chain going at a record-breaking pace requires tremendous commitment to the cause and it is necessary to have booster cool-down available to use items that provide energy, such as feathery hotel coupons and energy drinks. Boosters and cans can be expensive, though, so I asked Four who foot the bill for this expensive endeavour.
"Some members provided their own boosters, and some members were given boosters by other members. I'd estimate 2-3 people covered 35% of all of the costs while the remaining was members helping out one another, passing boosters around and using their own supplies. We used the speed chain as a way to increase our number of cans used to help achieve the voracity challenges - a suggestion which came from our chain leaders."
"We used 1,147 cans during the chain, though I am unsure the number of FHCs. I imagine anyone in the top 20 were using FHCs so it could easily have been 100+. Some members also used newsletter refills and kept the 3 free refills from last weeks downtime, which they were able to maintain by refilling their points via the faction armoury for a week. Due to the amount of boosters spent, the prizes for the chain were over $800m worth to reward members for their hard work and sacrifices to complete the chain under 10 hours."
The prizes are almost entirely all faction member-funded, which is an example of the generosity and teamwork that JFA 2.0 has built. Of course, it is also possible to gain extra energy from company specials, but this is limited to a maximum of 100 points per day which would equate to a maximum of 700 energy available.
In keeping with their own set of rules, JFA 2.0 leaders kicked out two members who messed up lower bonuses during the chain - even a lower bonus provides extra respect if hit properly, and respect is hard earned these days. Overall, nine members were kicked having either not shown up to chain hard or by making bonus mistakes that shouldn't have occurred if they were watching faction chat.
Interestingly, a recent addition to Torn City had some influence on this chaining record, with some JFA 2.0 members having joined and ranked up in a number of Detective Agencies. This meant that the arrest option became available while chaining was in progress. New options like this are prone to the occasional glitch, and this proved to be the case here, as was pointed out in this bug report. But despite the faction having to contend with a set of unforeseen consequences, the obstacle was overcome and chaining continued successfully.
"JFA 2.0 relies heavily on strong teamwork, and we believe that the strict chain rules and minimums improve retention as members are all contributing as fairly as possible." - Four
Incredibly, JFA 2.0 now holds the record for the 2.5k and 5k speed chains. During their 5k speed record they beat the old 5k HoF record set by Milk & Cookies (9 hours, 48 minutes, 5 seconds) by 7 hours, 46 minutes, 12 seconds. And in the process of their record-breaking 10k run, JFA 2.0 also beat their old 2.5k record as a bonus.
Chains of any length are notoriously difficult to achieve - as the members of Vulpes Vulpes recently discovered when their 22,606 tally was broken due to a dispute - so JFA 2.0 leader Four should certainly be proud of his faction. In a final quote, he expressed his admiration for the teamwork and togetherness shown by the members of JFA 2.0 in their achievement of this record chain.
"The faction is not successful because of one member or even a group of members. Every single JFA 2.0 knows their role and their importance to the faction. We could not achieve these records without our strong core of members working together and pushing one another. I believe that JFA 2.0 is showing new players that Torn isn't just a game for veteran members and that they can contribute new and exciting things to the game."
"At the same time we are showing veterans that Torn doesn't need to be stale. I hope that other factions take notice, stop training for a while, and start having some fun again. Thank you for the opportunity to be in a newspaper article. Please be sure to rub it in to JFA main's face that we got an article before them."
