100% record sees Torn veteran secure championships, Bugatti and $1billion with sixth straight victory. Tyrion finishes second ahead of former PRC champion Stormcast.
Lindy_Lyson has won the inaugural Ultimate Racing Championships after a stunning performance at Stone Park helped her see off the likes of Tyrion and Stormcast to clinch victory in the final. A Torn player of some thirteen years, this was a well-deserved victory for old-timer Lindy, who has won every single race she has participated in during the tournament proper.
Lindy's form in the group stage meant her participation in the final was almost assured, yet for former PRC champion Stormcast this was something he could only have dreamt of last week, as with just one group race remaining he faced a huge fight to make it through to the knockout rounds.
This time last week Mafia was already qualified on seven points with Baldr in second on sixth, and it seemed the Bugatti in Stormcast's garage was destined to a life of virginal solitude. He needed a victory to have any chance of qualifying, and even that might not have been enough if results didn't go his way.
After taking the lead early on at Underdog, Stormcast's dreams were punctured when Mafia overtook him with three laps to go. Mafia was still leading the race as he completed the final corner with the finishing line in sight, but somehow, on the final straight of the final lap in the final group race, Stormcast chased down his rival to qualify in the most dramatic way possible.

The only way it could've been more sensational is if Stormcast had simultaneously revealed himself to be Duke, Chedburn and the Zodiac killer as he passed the chequered flag. Rockem finished in third behind Mafia and Stormcast, and this meant that Stormcast progressed ahead of Baldr by virtue of races won.

In Group 2 Chiubiz and Fear topped a close bunch of five drivers who could all feasibly qualify depending on what happened at Underdog. Somewhat perversely, it was the already eliminated Urbanmenace who won the final race, having taken the lead on lap one never to relinquish it. Nath fondled second-place ahead of Chiubiz in third, which meant that Chiubiz topped the group with grated cheese, as Fear and Nath finished level on points, race victories and handsomeness. The two drivers' cumulative time over all four races was therefore used to determine their position, and Nath won out with a CT of 101:00:73 compared to Fear's total of 101:25:10.

Another sensual, intimate battle took place in Group 3, with five racers separated by just two points. Archimede and Carlosj had the best of the early action at Underdog with the rest playing catchup, and yet another nail-biting conclusion saw CarlosJ pilfer the lead from Archimede on the third-from-last corner, bursting ahead to finish four seconds ahead of his rival. Archimede's second-place meant he won the group ahead of CarlosJ. Kamas' third-place finish wasn't enough to qualify, but it was sufficient to end ShuKa's chances of progression, who was seen eating a whole gateau by himself having finished out of the points in fifth.

Group 4 also had five drivers potentially able to qualify, yet with Data and Violence leading on five points apiece, a one-two finish would see them both through. Data got out of the blocks fastest but was soon caught by Hammer, who himself needed to win and hope either one of the two leaders finished points-less. This is precisely what happened, as Hammer won ahead of Violence in second, whose two points meant he qualified as group winner. RazzyD rallied to overtake Fr0sty on the final lap and snatch third by half a second, with Data having to settle for fifth. This meant second-place was tied between Data and Hammer, with the latter going through thanks to a shorter Cumulative Time of 100:32:96 compared to Data's 101:09:65 - Hammer's 42-second advantage in this race proved both naughty and decisive.

Group 5 saw Tyrion already qualified with a race to spare, and boy could you tell. His awful start saw Mercm3 and ToxicMonkeyMZC fight for the lead throughout most of this race, but the former eventually fell away and was overtaken by a resurgent Tyrion for second. Mercm3's third-place finish was no small achievement, however, with the tournament's lowest-ranked driver clearly able to mix it with the big boys. Christmasbazaar finished out of the points and was leapfrogged by race winner ToxicMonkeyMZC who landed the second qualification position behind group winner Tyrion.

In Group 6 Lindy_Lyson's 100% record meant she had already qualified as group winner, but the rest of the field was positively gaping wide. Lindy and Lord_Gorgen battled for the lead among themselves until Somebody passed both of them on Lap 14. Lindy soon restored her lead one lap later, but the race soon evolved into a grease-spattered three-way until Lindy overtook Somebody halfway through the final lap. From here she never looked back, winning with a clear margin ahead of Lord_Gorgen who passed Somebody late on to seal his own qualification in second.

The draw for Semi Final 1 saw the group winners pitted against each other, with Lindy_Lyson, Tyrion, Mafia, Chiubiz, Archimede and Violence facing off at Meltdown. Archimede got a good start but quickly fell into a scrap with Violence and Chiubiz. Mafia, Lindy_Lyson and Tyrion were the lower ranked drivers in this semi, and this meant they were playing catch up during the first few laps - but catchup they most certainly did.
The lead changed hands several times before Tyrion emerged as the frontrunner in the first half. Mafia and Chiubiz then began to exchange the leadership, but by lap 16 all six drivers were within a few seconds of each other, as places were being traded like a set of cheap, soiled plushies.
The final lap began with Mafia, Tyrion and Chiubiz out in front, but this was not how it ended. Archimede darted into third position early on, before Lindy_Lyson forced her way into proceedings by shooting up to second. Tyrion overtook Archimede for third and with Mafia out in front, this is how it remained until the final corner of the final lap.
It was here that the ever-impressive Lindy_Lyson somehow managed to continue her winning streak by overtaking Mafia right at the death. Tyrion made good use of Lindy's slipstream to achieve the same feat, with Mafia gratefully holding on to the third and final qualification spot.

Semi-final 2 was no less dramatic, and after some early chaos, the race stabilised with Stormcast taking the lead for most of the first ten laps. Lord_Gorgen consistently challenged him for first though and having briefly overtaken Stormcast several times, at the halfway stage he trailed the leader by just a few hundredths of a second.
ToxicMonkeyMZC, Nath and CarlosJ were over half a second behind the front two in a pack spanning twenty-two hundredths of a second, with these three battling viciously for that final qualification spot way ahead of Hammer in sixth.
Stormcast continued to dominate the second half of SF2, but as the final lap began Lord_Gorgen's pressure paid off. He sprinted into the lead to take first, only for Stormcast to pull off yet another late surge and overtake Lord_Gorgen as they rounded the second cooling tower.
ToxicMonkeyMZC had also moved out ahead of his rivals to stake his claim for third, and this was how the race eventually finished, with Nath, CarlosJ and Hammer exiting the competition in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

And so our final lineup was complete, but first, we had the small matter of Friday's 'Sunday Driver Race' to take care of. A full complement of 100 racers turned out in an attempt to finish last and win a rare Class 3 Audi as well as a single hit from Duke on a player of their choice.
Eventual loser Hcom3 spent barely any time outside of the bottom three in the first half of this race, trundling around Speedway in his Vauxhall Corsa like a snail with ME. He took the last position towards the end of lap one, and although URT Semi-finalist Violence pushed him close, Hcom3 managed to regain the disadvantage as his dedication to lethargy won out, with the Torn City Times reporter finishing three seconds behind his closest challenger TealJade.
"Since it was on the speedway, the Vauxhall Corsa was the best bet, since it has abysmal top speed, and acceleration...Its weird, you usually don't get a prize for being the worst at something."

A public vote by 99 people resulted in Stonepark being chosen as the venue for the final race by a clear majority, but there was drama afterwards as Stormcast claimed a certain driver had used their faction to rig the decision. This information was provided to him by Nova, who also told me he'd actually offered to fix the race on behalf of Stormcast himself, only for the URT finalist to turn him down.
Nevertheless, the showpiece track of the Torn City raceway certainly bore witness to a fantastic spectacle, with fifty laps of thrills, spills and pills coming to determine the winner of the Ultimate Racing Tournament. The lowest-ranked driver Tyrion was a surprise early leader after pulling ahead late on lap one, with Lindy_Lyson following in second and third place consistently traded between Mafia and Lord_Gorgen.
Mafia, Tyrion and Lindy battled for supremacy amongst themselves until Stormcast entered the mix, with all four swapping places until well past the halfway stage, as Lord_Gorgen and ToxicMonkeyMZC failed to keep up with their speedier rivals. On Lap 30 Lindy_Lyson started to dominate, with the order of Lindy, Stormcast, Tyrion, Mafia, Lord_Gorgen and ToxicMonkeyMZC barely changing until Stormcast regained the lead on lap 37.
By lap 41 Lindy was back in the lead, with a full second separating her from last-placed ToxicMonkeyMZC. Tyrion and Stormcast both forced themselves out in front during the next few laps, but on Lap 44 Lindy really started to flex her muscles, scorching past Stormcast just before the hairpin to take a lead she would retain for the rest of the race.
Tyrion overtook Stormcast shortly after, and with the pair squabbling over second and third Lindy was able to pull ten seconds clear of her rivals and secure her maiden championships in style. Tyrion took second-place four seconds ahead of Stormcast in third, with Mafia coming in at fourth, Lord_Gorgen in fifth and ToxicMonkeyMZC finishing in sixth.

This victory marked the continuation of a remarkable run of form for Lindy_Lyson, whose 100% record will surely be hard to replicate come future editions of the URT. After thanking the race organisers in a magnanimous forum post, Lindy paid tribute to her factionmates who helped her to achieve this monumental feat.
"I'm actually more of a leisure car racer. It's because of tournament, like the past PRC and the current URT, then I start testing out those cars configuration and keep spamming request from my faction mates to test run with me in race circuit."
"Around lap 15, Tyrion, surpass me taking the lead. I felt disheartening at the moment, but someone told me "it's not how you started, it's about how you finish it". True enough, I shouldn't give up just like that, I can feel myself like stepping hard on the accelerator, going after the tail lights of Tyrion's NSX."
"Stormcast, pickup his momentum and start surpassing everyone around mid-race...He's a tough opponent for sure and could just walk away with the champion title. My heart was dragging and there's a point of time that I couldn't bear to continue watching live telecast of the race."
"Somehow, I got my "sheer dumb luck" back at the very end...I was once again, overwhelm by the outcome. I'd like to thanks to all racers who participated in URT, including George, made this competition possible and an ultimate one."
Lindy_Lyson takes home a Bugatti Veyron and one billion dollars thanks to her efforts, and both prizes are clearly well deserved. She says she will never sell the car and it will remain in her display case until she earns enough racing points to upgrade it. Another outstanding performance in the final came from Tyrion, who belied his comparatively low Driver Skill rating to take the runner-up spot.
"I was very lucky to have qualified in the first place of course, with so many other contestants. After that, I tested out different cars on certain tracks before each race, so I was quite confident in each match."
"I was surprised indeed, especially when Christmasbazaar in my group race didn't qualify for the semi-final. Somehow I did really well myself with my lowish DS of only 21.1 (compared to the others) and didn't even need to qualify for the 4th group race, which was a surprise as well lol. That took a lot of pressure off of me."
"I'm really glad I picked my NSX instead of the Audi, as it seemed that it definitely was the better choice on that track at 50 lap."
Both Tyrion and Lindy plumped for the Honda NSX at Stone Park, with the other drivers choosing to run with the Audi R8. Tyrion may have missed out on earning himself a Bugatti, but his second-place prize still consisted of $500million and Duke's Racing Suit - which is just a Hazmat that has become heavily worn around the crotch.
Tyrion remarked that the suit was "quite hot", surprisingly omitting the adjectives "clammy", "musty" and "aggressively pungent" from his description. Stormcast's reward for finishing in third was a Racing Coin and $400million. The Bugatti owner used his prized Veyron in just one race during the URT, and after witnessing its performance, it's hardly surprising that it didn't get another runout.
"It recorded one of its worst fastest laps ever on that track [Uptown] at 1.17.22. I coulda run faster lol. Looks like someone has used faction power to push Stone Park as the track for the final round (was not me) so I won't use the Bugatti there. Although it is the track I won it on previously."
"Not really surprised to see a lot of high DS drivers go out early. I should think it happens every event, just some have been more vocal this time around."
Mafia joined the URT to race for fun alongside other racing greats, having previously participated in the Night Racers' Tribute to Wuggington. He admitted uncertainty as to which cars to choose in the early stages, but through his clever use of guides, abstinence and practice Mafia managed to fight past more experienced rivals to finish a highly creditable fourth.
"I have referred to thread "Upgrade Guide" by RD_ [1530413] to get best car and setting for the next 4 tracks in group stage. Thanks to Somebody [1763067] for practice with me together prepare for Group Stage race."
"I can't hope too much to win this race because I don't have good DS like other racer but my mom says "Don't drive drunk", so before I get qualified to final, I was rehabbed and don't pop any drugs during my faction is chaining right now and even I don't drink any beers and energy can to get myself clean in race at least I can avoid accident and crash my lovely car, lol."
Despite finishing fifth, Lord_Gorgen's participation in the final was still impressive given he missed the very first race of the group stage. He wasn't surprised at the failure of a high number of high DS drivers along the way, though, as Lord_Gorgen believes this stat represents nothing more than an increase in your odds, not a guarantee of victory.
"Could have been better, but Lindy_Lyson was simply unbeatable from race 1. Should have put dirt upgrades on my nsx instead lol... These tournaments are a fun addition to the game. Been thinking of running my own, just never gotten around to it. Mine would have a twist, whatever car you qualify with is the car you have to use the whole tournament to avoid disqualification."
ToxicMonkeyMZC was understandably upset with his own performance in the final, but his comments on the competition as a whole were hugely positive, describing the tournament as "awesome" and having "breathed new life into an old system."
"I just used the cars I'd normally use on each track. I possibly could have looked at altering some upgrades but I don't think it would have made any significant difference."
"My Final was an unmitigated disaster. Not really sure what went so terribly wrong, I was keeping up for the first 10 laps or so. Stone Park has never been my best track and I feel I could have probably set the car up better. I did switch from rally tyres to rally-cross just before the race started, might have been a factor. Also, I had 2% addiction but don't know whether this affects racing."

So with the competition over, what's next for the Ultimate Racing Tournament? When will the next one be, and will it pay out even more prize money as well as a Bugatti? To find that out you'll have to read our follow-up piece later in the week because this article is long as f**k already. We'll be publishing the thoughts of GeorgeCostanza and our finalists regarding the tournament's future on Friday, and in the meantime, we would like to invite all participants and viewers of the URT to send in your comments and suggestions to Sugarvalves for consideration.
But before we go, there's just one more prize to be handed out; the Soybean award. This award, which was named in honour of GeorgeCostanza's own child, sees $50million given to the most impressive underdog of the competition. To announce the winner, I shall leave the final words to tournament organiser GeorgeCostanza, whose stewardship of this new competition was absolutely first class:
"After reviewing the qualifiers, the groups, and the entire bracket I feel that CarlosJ most deserves the Soybean award. He was not quite the lowest DS in the competition at 13.3, but was close enough to the bottom. Progressing through their group stage and making it 1 race from the final, I think he surpassed all expectations and hopefully impressed himself in the process."
