Are Flight Delays The New Bounties?

Earlier this month we published an article which exposed the financial difficulties being faced by the city's newly founded Detective Agencies. One DA owner who we didn't speak to was TomDickHarry, director of Anti-Sleaze Services. He got in touch with the TCT recently to tell us how his agency has managed to buck the trend and make money - kinda.

"My DA has been 2-3rd in revenue for the past weeks and I tie with Vlad on most arrests made. We're both at 227 each. My faction is highest for arrests made since I have so many faction members in it, at 357 combined arrests. I didn't do the math, but I assume my DA makes the most arrests combined from my team."

"I personally have sold the flight delay REDACTED times, for a combined REDACTED. My first I sold for $5m, then $10m, then $15m. I now add a premium of $5m if I watch the target for the client, so it can go up to $20m, which I received once."

TomDickHarry requested that the total amount he has received for the flight delay special be removed from this article so as to avoid letting his rivals know just how much money he is making. I can confirm, however, that it is a particularly large number, and that Anti-Sleaze Services is enjoying a substantial turnover as a result. But is it making a profit? And are arrests in any way beneficial to firms financially?

"Arrests don't make that much money...every now and then we find one for 2m-3m but it's rare now, and given that it also costs 25E and you have to wait at least a week for the target to have anything worth arresting for again it's not much per day. The only good part is that they count towards chains now, so that's a big help."

"The company itself doesn't make a profit. There is one difference from what I hear from other companies - I pay my employees 50k, others still seem to be paying 500k-1m for their staff, which is fair given the high stats needed, but the company only brings in about 1.5-1.6m per day. Advertising is at 2.5m per day, and I'm pretty sure Fester is paying more for that daily, and I believe wazzap is at 2.5m adv daily."

"According to TS our total loss is $-42,502,184. It's not too bad since I cover that with flight delays, but of course it should make a profit or at least break even on its own, considering we have full staff, all stocks and edus, etc. As a whole my company makes a profit on flight delays."

"Arrests are kind of rubbish, so hopefully more people will start to realise that flight delays are soooo much better than bounties, or what I recommend to my clients, combine the flight delay with a juicy bounty and keep someone abroad for a day if planned right!"

Flight delays are indeed a useful way of haranguing a rival, and if used correctly, they have the potential to form a crucial part of the Torn City experience. However, having analysed the numbers, the TC Council has determined that TomDickHarry is indeed correct. Arrests are rubbish, and they are often not worth the energy expended to make them.

In light of this assessment, the Torn City Police Department is now offering double the rewards for apprehending a criminal. This increase was implemented sometime last week, with criminals subject to a $1million reward now being worth $2million to their captors. Around $2billion has been made by the city's detectives since the arrest ability was introduced into Torn back in April, and this figure is now set to rise thanks to this generous offer from the Torn P.D.

Of course, an increase in individual rewards also means that the total reward cash on offer in Torn will be doubled too. Two weeks ago the total value of all of Torn's arrestable citizens stood at $56billion. This figure now easily tops $100billion, but whether the increased rewards on offer will help put a dent in this total remains to be seen.
