Torn of the Dead rumours gather pace, weed stocks hit by mystery buyer, new racing competition in the works and more!
Torn of the Dead to Return?
Is the much loved Torn of the Dead competition about to make a comeback this Halloween? ThePolitician certainly hopes so, as over the past few months he's been trying to drum up support for a revival via a well-received post in the suggestions forum.
Chedburn expressed his interest in the event via a pinned response, and while there is nothing yet written in blood, I can confirm there is an appetite to resurrect this competition in October 2018 - if we can get the details sorted.

Pictured: An example of how ToTD inspired Torn's appetite for al-fresco dining.
However, the Torn chief noted that ThePolitician's suggestion did not contain enough ideas for how the new competition would work, with Chedburn indicating to me that he is looking for an intuitive infection method and a novel way of tracking its spread.
I have been racking my braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains with the help of ThePolitician in a bid to get this competition up and running. There are a few potential formats currently under consideration, but if you have any suggestions, demands or inspiring limericks, feel free to mail me, Sugarvalves, at your earliest convenience.
Also, if you have any screenshots or memories of Torn of the Dead you'd like to share, please inbox ThePolitician and we will publish these as a further part of our campaign to see this bloodcurdling contest brought back from the dead.
Weed Stocks Snapped Up By Newbie Drug Lord
Have you noticed weed prices going up lately? No, me neither, but one local newbie is hoping to change that, with 25-day-old Luxus having acquired 1.5% of the weed market less than two weeks into his stay in Torn City.
After just twelve days of residency, Luxus claims he managed to "stumble across" a Motorcycle Helmet, an item which he then sold for the princely sum of $17.5million. With this money, the young upstart then purchased 1579 items of Cannabis, and he is now looking for competition in the weed industry, calling out the citizens of Torn City to try and gather more weed than him.
"[His goal is to] accumulate more wealth which in turn I will use to buy more weed. Till I own the whole weed market one day. Or until I get a decent amount of it. Like 50%."
According to the Cannabis graphs, Luxus supposed purchase of 1.5% of our city's weed stocks did absolutely nothing to affect its availability, with stocks having remained plentiful for several years now. Neither did Luxus' work alter the price of weed by more than a few grand temporarily, with the last major spike somewhat predictably occurring on April 20th.
However, if Luxus or another miscreant does manage to dominate the weed market both of these things could change. So do you know of someone else with more weed than Luxus? Are you aware of how Luxus really got hold of a Motorcycle Helmet? And if so, are you willing to expose his suspected multi or restart account in return for a reward? Please get in touch with the Torn City Times if you have any information to share.
Citizens Warned of Private Island Diggers
Nicki123tw got in touch with us recently to let us know about the worrying trend of Private Island Digging, whereby a player seeks a marriage partner for the sole purpose of using their tropical residence. Such cuckoldry is common in Torn, with most diggers seen to leave their spouse as soon as a better prospect comes along.

But what of those who are left behind? What happens to the poor saps who are left cold and alone after their spouses have prostituted themselves in exchange for increased amounts of happy? Nicki123tw illuminated us further:
"User tearincube has recently been dumped by their in-game spouse after said spouse have found another rich sugar daddy who is willing to sponsor any and all of their expenditures. The results? An immediate divorce and Tearincube left single and ready to mingle once more."
"Tearincube has posted on the forums seeking a partner with whom she can share a Private Island property with. This is not the first case of partner-seeking based on their properties, and this will definitely not be the last. Meanwhile, tearincube's faction members from War Gods are helping her to bump her forum posts in hope of helping her find her 4200-happily-ever-after."
UPDATE: Tearincube has since become wedded to LaurelBooBoo. However, just one hour after this very article was published, her former spouse Drumgun contacted me with the following comments:
"Yo story about tearincube..before he wed LaurelBoobo. It was me that is in relationship with him. But then he divorced me cause i cant pay the pi rent lol. Beside, it wasnt me who propose him. He started it."
"He said he gonna marry me back once i get money to pay. But then few days after i found out he wed with that laurelboobo. So I just moved on and found a casino pass week after. Until Baldr introduced me to his friend Blistig that is voluntarily wants to help."
"Sometime this pi renter just want to find some noob to pay his upkeep. Anyway nice article. He just wanted merit and aim for nub to pay his upkeep."

New Racing Event Coming Soon?
The recent success of the URT has proven once and for all that the Torn City racing community is alive and well. And with further new developments to the petrolhead scene soon to be forthcoming, the competition for spots in racing's elite competitions is sure to increase, especially given the lavish selection of prizes on offer.
The popularity of the Ultimate Racing Tournament among the public resulted in several high-profile racing names missing out on the tournament. And with the next edition six months away, many may have thought their chances of glory were firmly stuck in parc firmé.
But that is not the case, with Night Racers TriTuRaDor and Guy_Smiley in discussions with myself in a bid to organise a unique rally event the likes of which have never been seen in Torn City before. Details on the competition are yet to be finalised, but I can confirm the Torn City Times will be sponsoring this event. So if any of you missed out on qualification for the URT, keep your eyes peeled for more information.
Museum Scam Exposed?
Scams are big news in Torn City of late, and in the next few weeks this paper will be bringing you a shocking expose on just how ingrained this practice is within our people's daily lives. In the meantime, reader Joeskull got in touch with the Times to question whether the Torn City Museum is involved in some kind of ruse, with his query focused on their bizarre acceptance of flowers and soft toys in exchange for valuable points.
"Does the museum curator and points building manager have some sort of deal, using innocent Torn City citizens to import contraband contained within so they're not implicated in more serious crimes? Everyone in Torn wants something, but the question isn't what they want, but why.?

Pictured: The tragic face of a creature so clearly riddled with narcotic, intestinal deposits.
Joeskull does have a point. A recent competition run by the Museum demonstrated just how many interesting exhibits the facility could host if it were not so obsessed with flora and plushies. So what is the purpose behind the Museum's hoarding of these items? Do you have any theories regarding this odd practice? Let the Torn City Times know via our Tell Your Story page.
Real Life Torn
Torn City often proves a welcome escape from reality for many people. But for some, the brutal bloodshed of this game can come to mirror tragic real-life events. The following short story was sent to us recently by taddei90. We have no reason to question its authenticity.
"My name is Tiago, my English is limited, I play in this character taddei90 since May 6, 2016, I had an older account of 2008 called taddei but unfortunately I lost the email and password and it is precisely on this account that I come to tell my short story."
"I lived in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, I started playing with my brother and my friends, at the beginning we were 8, we had a lot of fun with this secondary reality. One day we are gathered in the house of Digo playing torn and other games when one of our friends (Pedro) went to buy popcorn on the corner, all normal on a sunny day when he was shot in an attempted robbery, he died instantly."
"We stayed a while without playing the torncity because we always remembered our friend. The years were passing today we are in 2018 I moved to Sao Paulo in 2016, when one day I inadvertently clicked on a link that brought me back to the site torncity, I remembered my old friends and called Digo who told me that two of our friends died of drug overdose, one died shot by a cell phone robber (his brother committed suicide next) and another was arrested for car theft."
"We were 8 then 7 then 5 then 3 then 2, where are my friends from before? How can everything get worse so easily? It's ironic how life in some places in Brazil is more difficult than a game."
Real Life Torn 2
Games like Torn can also become a useful distraction for those who are trying to kick a debilitating habit - unless that habit is playing Torn, obviously. -LuciousLyon- got in touch with the TCT to pass on their gratitude for the work Torn's staff and players have done in creating a game which helped them divert from a more destructive pastime. Once more, we present this story to you without any caveats, since we have been given no evidence to suggest it is anything other than true.
"Up until about 550 days ago I was an opiate addict. As I was trying to fill my empty time with stuff to do instead of drugs I discovered Torn. This has kept my mind stimulated enough to abstain from drug use. I'd like to take this time to personally that all staff and civilians alike. Without you guys none of this would have been possible."
