Who doesn't love Discord giveaways? Well, maybe Kapten_Klitoris doesn't, but I sure do. For those of you who don't know, Discord is a communication tool which serves as an alternative to Torn chat if it is down, full of trolls or you want to say something extra spicy. But aside from all that, it is here where many of Torn's greatest giveaways take place; and if you're quick, you might be able to take part in a huge event that's happening right now.

In a recent survey of eighty people, we found that over half of Torn's Discord users only join these channels to participate in giveaways - the rest took part just for the 'friendly banter' and 'viewing the graphics' (hmm...). Crannie, a frequent visitor of numerous giveaway channels, is certainly not there for the 'graphics':

"We have the opportunity to win stuff for free, to make friends, and to learn the ropes of the game. What's not to like?"

These Discord giveaways have proven extremely useful for new players who are looking to build their wealth. TomFoolery, an exceptionally thankful Torn citizen, told us that winning a prize during one of these events was a truly momentous occasion, as it may one day provide a roof over his head:

"I recently won 100m, which is a much needed and tremendously appreciated addition to my savings for a PI for my wife and I. I'm still far from the amount needed to make the purchase but without that win I'd be even further away."

100 million sounds like a nice amount of money, but who is running these Discord channels, and how can an ordinary schmuck like you obtain an invite? The answer to the first question is easy. When someone mentions "huge giveaway channels", the first thing that springs to mind is The Duckpond. This giveaway channel has been running for over four years now, and with its thread now consisting of more than 140 pages, I would conservatively estimate that they have given out over two times infinity dollars worth of prizes.

Pictured: If you visit the Duckpond, please play nice.

The Duckpond Discord can be found via this blue text you're looking at right now. Their last giveaway was on the 22nd of June in celebration of the annual Duckpond day, and was led by BambinaDuckie and her staff members, which includes Sherbear, AjtheWabbit, Stewie, Bingbonghippy, IceBlueFire, Mack_Daddy, Rayne, PinkiePie and rainbowsaurus. In a chat with the Torn City Times, BambinaDuckie paid tribute to her ducklings for helping make these huge giveaways possible.

"It was a memorable day at the Duckpond indeed. Prizes worth hundreds of millions were given out that day, and I wouldn't be able to do it without my loyal staff members. It was a relatively smooth giveaway event to run, apart from the occasional troll and the people who attempt to mug giveaway winners - these troublemakers were usually permanently banned if they were found to be rule-breakers. All in all, I enjoyed hosting the event and would like to thank everyone that participated in it."

These events are clearly well run and appreciated by the community, but what compels their organisers to give away their time and money so freely? To understand why these great Samaritans do what they do, I decided to interview the ever-so generous -R3x-, who is the founder of -R3x-'s Place of Shenanigans.

"I have always enjoyed the feeling of happiness I get when I know I have done something that helps my fellow Torn players with a financial boost, to help them on their way... we have many newbies around too, which is great to see."

"We do lotteries (here), because it's a fun way for everyone to get involved, bringing them together and building an amazing community where (almost) everyone is happy to help each other out. My Discord server has taken off very quickly, and very positively too: on a daily basis, I receive kind words and 'thank you' letters from the lovely Torn citizens that have joined us to participate and build the Discord channel!"

As I mentioned earlier, -R3x- is currently running his largest giveaway ever on his channel, which you can join by following this blue text which contains a handy link to his Discord server. You're welcome!

With the prospect of grand prizes on offer, you may have already departed this article in search of free stuff. But if you haven't, then here's what you need to do to be in with a chance of winning something. -R3x- says that participants simply have to click "React" on the giveaway post (found at the #giveaways corner) in order to stand a chance of winning the prize.

Each lottery draw will last for 48 hours to ensure that everyone has sufficient time to sign up, and valuable prizes like a pair of Boxing Gloves and even a Private Island will be distributed to the lucky winners.Do check out the #lotto-room there too, as this is where occasional lotteries will be run too. To join these, simply enter the command !join and you will automatically be entered into the draw.

So there we have it. If you're broke, greedy or both, you now have no excuse for not knowing how to get free stuff. It will be interesting to see whether The Duckpond and -R3x-'s Place of Shenanigans remain as the two most popular Discord servers over the coming months. These channels are incredibly popular, and I would not be surprised to see copycats attempt to ape their success.

Whatever the future holds, I would like to thank these philanthropists on behalf of all Torn society. Not many players are comfortable with giving away their hard-earned game cash to others, but you guys are truly Torn's shining beacon of hope - a living reminder that kind souls with hearts of gold still walk among us.

UPDATE

Shortly after the publication of this article. Evil-Duck announced that a Gold AK worth $25 billion would be given away via his Discord channel. You can join this giveaway here, but the Torn City Times accepts no liability for any trolling which you may encounter there.
