Which items are having their value manipulated by a shadowy cabal of elders? And why is it a good idea to hold on to your candy stocks? Find out in our new Item Market report.
Torn's markets are a volatile mistress, and even the most experienced of traders can be caught out by an unforeseen crash or spontaneous rise. To help bazaar owners both new and experienced, the Torn City Times will now publish a monthly report into the item market activities, looking at both previous trends and forthcoming predictions.
This details of this report have been provided by MrCommander, a new player whose style has been oriented entirely around trading since he arrived in the city six months ago. Additional notes were given by BeerDrinker. Rival traders who agree or disagree with these assessments are encouraged to share their predictions with the Times via our Tell Your Story feature, and the most insightful comments will be published in our monthly report.
So without further ado, here are MrCommander's observations on the item market of late:

MED SUPPLIES HIT BY MARKET MANIPULATORS
There is a group of players manipulating the item market of late, and buy mugging has played a massive part. This interference has affected meds the most, with the group steadily raising the prices of Med Supply Boxes by holding price walls. Often, two or more players with a few thousand boxes in reserve have been seen price matching, before buying out and buy mugging those with a few hundred in stock to get an even better return.
Mug protection plays a massive part in this scheme, as some Bazaar sellers have tips and tricks for these things. This group have also been holding morphine and both sizes of First Aid Kits at a higher price since elimination. They reportedly hold a MASSIVE stock in meds and med supply boxes, and their price will only increase during the current Dog Tags competition. Hopefully, we'll see some kind of drop-off during December and January, as players become focused on Christmastown instead.
CANDY VALUE SET TO RISE?
The recent Trick or Treating event paid out various candy, alcohol and energy drink items as a reward to those who took part. As expected, many of these items have since dropped in value, with the candies given out losing between $2,000 and $8,000 of their value due to increased circulation.
Alcohol was more heavily affected, as Pumpkin Brew, Stinky Swamp Punch and Wicked Witch lost $3,000, $10,000 and $18,000 respectively. Cans of Munster Energy Drink saw the biggest devaluation, although the $40,000 drop in their price could easily have been part of a longer term downturn which took place after an unexpected rise towards the end of September.
However, while cans and alcohol items are not predicted to increase in value, it is rumoured that a special boosting event may have this effect on candies. TCT Reporter Sugarvalves has told the forums to keep hold of their candy for two weeks, since it apparently tastes better if you do so. And furthermore, I have heard within the offices of the Times that one of our reporters will be revealing the exact date of this event sometime this weekend.
So if you've got yourself a large stash of candy leftover from Halloween, you may want to keep hold of it a little while longer.

DONATOR PACKS SET TO RISE
DPs have seen a major price rise of late, boosting from 2018's usual price of $26.5 million to a comfortable valuation of $27.5 million. Their climb seems quite steady, and following the September rise where costs hit $28 million, some predict their value will push beyond this and creep ever closer to the four-year high of $29 million.
BeerDrinker, another trading maestro, disagrees with this assessment, as he claims that DPs are yet another item under the influence of big buyers and resellers. BD adds that Donator Packs will never remain steady for long because of this artificial interference, but that the current value of $27.5 million does tend to be a price that is held for some time.
PLUSHIES AND FLOWERS SITTING PRETTY
Plushies and flowers have seem to have stabilized somewhat after suffering greatly due to the double travel capacity day. We may see them drop some more with the amount of flying being done by players to avoid getting their tags taken, but at the moment, most flowers sit on a price $3-5,000 lower than usual - one example being the Chamois on $57,000, having sold for $60-61k in some bazaars earlier this year.
PORNOGRAPHY PRICE TURNS FLACCID
A slow but steady drop in Erotic DVDs has been noticed, losing $100k in the past few days as Dog Tags began. Late September saw pornography begin a rise to its highest ever price in Torn City, hitting a record $4,854,410 on October 4th. More than $200k has been wiped off their value since then, but it remains to be seen whether prices will continue to fall and end up at a more reasonable figure.
Erotic DVDs have seen a steady increase in circulation ever since they were tracked, but Duke's parcel giveaway, which increased the number of Erotic DVDs available, seems to have had minimal effect upon their valuation. But one event which did have a major impact was a coincidental block of mass porn payouts to those with shares in PRN.
Also, BeerDrinker says that prices are being kept down by Iribuya's insistence on holding their value at $4.6 million, and that the price will return to $4.8 million when his stock sells.

CANS SET FOR STAGNATION
Cans have dropped slightly since Elimination ended, with the recent Trick or Treat event also having made a small dent in their valuation too. Prices tend to stagnate over Christmas and New Year, with few events requiring their use around this time. If you have cans it might be wise to hold onto them in case of a surge during tags. Likewise, if you're a buyer, you might want to stock up now before they potentially climb, especially if you're involved in the Dog Tag event. Although if truth be told, a surge in price does seem unlikely, with cans holding steady at the moment.
Santa Shooters and Munster are on $2.3 million, and bar late October's rise and fall, they've hovered around this price since their crash over September. Rockstar Rudolph and Red Cow are on the rise, but I see nothing to suggest their current price of $2.75 million will get anywhere near the yearly high of £3.1 million anytime soon. Tourine Elite and X-MASS didn't lose as much as the other cans during the late-year drop, but once more, I see their $3.9 million valuation holding steady over Christmas.
For traders, it makes more sense to wait until mid-December for prices to truly plummet, especially if you're looking to buy up a lot of cans in bulk.
POINTS STEADY
With points at a steady 52-53k, the profit margins on plushie and flower sets are absolutely massive if you're willing to spend some time in the air. You must have the museum unlocked to make use of this, or have someone willig to convert the sets to points for you in exchange for a small cut. When all is said and done, 100 complete sets of either Plushies or Flowers (a set being one of each plushie or flower) can be sold or traded for around 50m cash value.
