Why was CT released early? When will the editor be available? And what can we expect from this year's Christmas Town? Find out now, or don't; your choice.
Every year Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier, and given last week's shenanigans, it seems Torn City is no exception, after a drunken, emotional Chedburn pressed the big release button for Christmas Town several weeks early. In a definitely official statement to the Torn City Times, Chedburn blamed a particularly emotional episode of Strictly Come Dancing for the error, and expressed his intention to make Christmas Town extra special to make up for it.

After the children of Torn got to peek at their presents early, Chedburn worked swiftly to remedy the situation, explaining via an official announcement that the game was in mid-development and due for release around December 18th. He also reassured citizens that additional mechanics and features would be added later and that while the Christmas Town you saw was indeed your main present, you have lots of little bits to open that you don't yet know about.
We'll have some more detail on these new inclusions later, but first, let's explore the juiciest part of Chedburn's announcement; the news that from 2019, players will be able to create their own custom Christmas Town maps.
"The main focus this year is work towards next year's release: Giving players full access to the editor and allowing them to build their own CT maps. Full customisation and limitless size of storylines / areas / traps / mazes / chests / buildings / objects / rivers / caves."
"Build your own world of any style and size, and players will join and rate it from a lobby. Anything that's possible in this year's Christmas Town, you'll be able to create in your own one. Your world will act exactly the same if you wish it to. General CT loot will even spawn in other player's maps."
Using the Christmas Town editor, Chedburn hopes that the players will create an assortment of weird and wonderful maps by themselves, each offering a greater variety of challenges than could be provided by any one person. Also, since up to twenty people are able to collaborate on one map, Chedburn predicts that some groups will end up creating gigantic Christmas Town worlds which are many times bigger and better than our current map.
One can already imagine some of the horrors which might lurk in the creations of our most infamous citizens. Will Dude's map lead you down a long and winding path to absolutely no reward? Might Dekloren's be one giant patch of ice? Personally, I can foresee Perplex-'s map being a huge scam whereby you enter with nothing and leave owing him $26 billion. Won't that be fun?

The Christmas Town editor will be available from October 2019 and once released, players will be permitted to work on their maps all year round. However, aside from the Christmas period, access to maps other than your own will be much like my grandmother, disabled, as will the gains and loot provided by playing your own map.
During future Christmases, players will be able to access other maps via a lobby which will appear under the Christmas Town HUD. And while the original Christmas Town map will remain available via this menu, it is hoped that the presence of bigger and better maps will eventually cause it to wither and die like the testicles of a lamb castrated with a thick rubber band.
Alas, next year's release of the editor indicates that 2018's Christmas Town could represent the final official update to this beloved, frigid world, which also means that this will be the last opportunity players have to blame Chedburn and the developers for anything that goes wrong with it. Ha, sucks to be you. But what can we expect from this year's Christmastown when the new features have finally been added? Because believe me, there is much more to this year's map than some of you may have seen during its accidental release.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the person in charge of this year's additions - who identifies as Alice the Christmas Witch - elected to forewarn Christmastown's patrons of a rather hazardous situation which threatens to unfold amid the snow, sparkles and little sausages on sticks.
"Beware, Christmastown visitors! We have had recent reports of a prison escape from Icecatraz Island Jail. Suspects are armed and dangerous, so please be on your guard. Local residents have been made aware and will report any suspicious activity to the local police. The owners of Christmas Town would like to reassure the general public that the risk to visitors is minimal."
"If you plan to take a scenic hike around Christmas Town, please observe warning signs and avoid open cave mouths, which are hazardous and should not be entered under any circumstances."
