Weekly Patch Notes 22/01/19

Let's look through all the changes and fixes which made throughout the week as listed in Tuesday's Patch list, and what they mean for you.
Updates, Changes and Additions

- Added spectator mode for custom races
- Increased maximum wait time for custom races

Detailed by sugarvalves here, any race now that is set up by users, as opposed to the "Official" races may be watched while in progress by players that have not entered.
The maximum wait time for custom races was also increased to 48 hours in order to accommodate players in different timezones.


- Added 'Awareness Awareness Week' event for 3rd week in January

On the third week of January each year 'Awareness Awareness Week' takes effect whereby a user's awareness, which triggers the spawning of items in the city, is increased. This boost is equivalent to 4x for a user with no additional bonuses in awareness (merits or book).


- Added warnings to sending money / items when receiving user is inactive or in federal jail

If you attempt to send money to a user who is inactive you will now be met with a message that says "Warning: this person hasn't been online for X days" in red. If you attempt to send an item to a user in Federal Jail you will be met with "Warning: this person is in federal jail".


- Added warning when planting SED & Horse's Head to mention other items in parcel will be destroyed

After a report by megalomaniacal in which he details the loss of an RPG due to it being placed in a parcel with a Small Explosive Device, Chedburn agreed that a warning can be implemented when attempting to put an SED in a box stating "Warning: this item will destroy all other contents in this parcel!". This was implemented by Xepa4ep.


- Added Armor details in faction armory & removed mods column for weapons

Observed by Rum4nyby - while the weapons section of a faction armoury details their specific weapon stats (Damage, Accuracy, Mods & Bonuses), the same is not true for the armor section. Chedburn recommended that the "Attachments & Bonuses" section be changed to "Details" for weapons, displaying only Accuracy, Damage and any Bonus applied (as Mod attachments cannot be kept on a donated weapon) and that armor should also get a "Details" section displaying the Armor rating with a single Bonus column for the future. This change was made quickly by Xepa4ep.


- Changed territory war cooldown system to prevent 'deadlocks' new system

While preparing assault plans it was noticed that, due to the current mechanics of territory warfare, it would be possible for a maximum of three factions to lock up particular territories and thus parts of the map (the island, for example) using fake wars and NAPs. Faction A holding the territory XYZ may be assaulted by friendly Faction B for 2 days, and then have a 24hr NAP signed. Friendly Faction C then does the same, followed by Faction B again. This could be repeated indefinitely, preventing enemy Faction D from ever even being able to assault XYZ.

This issue was brought directly to Chedburn who passed it to the committee, where a solution was formed. Now, there are two checks made when assaulting:

1. if you have not assaulted XYZ within the last 3 months, you may begin an assault
2. if you have assaulted XYZ within the last 3 months, you may only begin an assault if the last territory assault on XYZ ended more than 72 hours ago.


- Enabled display case viewing while travelling

Suggested by Triplicant and agreed to by Chedburn, you may now view another players display case while you are travelling. This did, however, come with the unintended consequence of being able to add and remove items from your own display case.


Bugs, Fixes and Typos

- Reduced API request limit per minute from 100 to 60 as a temporary measure to reduce load

The number of API calls that may be made with a specific key has been reduced from 100 to 60 per minute as a temporary measure to improve performance across Torn.


- Fixed retaliation bonus period to start at the end of the last attack

Reported again this time by Ahab, the timing for retaliations previously began upon the initiation of the first hit. This meant that if an attack took four minutes to complete, the opposing faction would only have one minute to complete a retaliation. This was changed by Kopites so that the timer for a retaliation now starts once a fight is complete.


- Fixed networth value not including refunded bookie bets

Any money stored in the bookies is supposed to be included in your networth, however, Quilogy reports that money from refunded bets was overlooked, which was a quick and easy fix for Chedburn.


- Fixed broken layout of the "Join" button when viewing the logged out forums

Not reported publicly, a layout issue with the "Join" button that is displayed above the forum page when logged out which takes a person to register was corrected.


- Fixed Newspaper areas accessibility with search engines

Certain areas of functionality for the newspaper such as comics or chronicles were not correctly accessible when navigating from a search engine result.


- Fixed display case adding / faction donating item quantities from "user have" to "user depositing"

Noticed by Helcostr here, it was seen that when depositing items to the faction or adding them to a display case, the quantity displayed at the confirmation page was the quantity in the user's inventory rather than the quantity being added. Xepa4ep was able to correct this.


- Fixed displaying the "Comment" panel on the "Reporting" page in the desktop mode on mobile devices

BeerDrinker reports here that the comment panel for a newspaper article in the Desktop View on a mobile device is not accessible. This was fixed by nikitad.


- Fixed forums thread title truncation on the middle of the thread container element

An issue reported dozens of times regarding forum thread titles containing an extra line so they appear doubly tall (like here), was fixed.


- Fixed "Owned" status in Points Building appearing after purchasing a merit when still available

Solaris reports that although he has purchased every available merit, the "One Merit" option in the Points Building is still activated incorrectly. Chedburn agreed this should be disabled if it is not possible to purchase any further merits, and nikitad corrected this.


- Fixed joining territorial war not updating last action time

Reported here by Proxima, it appeared as if a player who was offline for over four hours was able to continuously rejoin a territory wall. This was caused by the fact that joining a wall did not update last action, and Kopites has since rectified this.


- Fixed faction destroyed profile display before cron processing

HavokGDI noticed a strange Faction Profile that contained no members nor any information regarding the faction, a blank space where a plaque might go for a destroyed faction. A result of some testing, Chedburn deleted this profile.


- Fixed raid report members list issue when user changes faction
- Fixed raid report view when 'Honor names' is switched off

MrDoe notices in this report that when honor bars are switched off, raid reports become a mess of usernames and faction tags. A fix for this was provided by Kopites.

An issue was also fixed regarding the list of members involved not displaying if they subsequently moved to another faction.


- Fixed issue with trading Peace Treaties with leaders who owned dead factions

Button_Pwny reports here a problem when attempting to enact a peace treaty with another faction. The faction with which the trade was attempted took its name from a faction that had previously been destroyed, resulting in a peace treaty forming between Button_Pwny's and the already-dead faction. Chedburn was eventually able to find the exact issue and fix.


- Fixed race cars name encoding problems

ScootaIoo reported here an issue with Hexadecimal appearing when naming an enlisted race car using apostrophes and other special characters. aurel1 was able to rectify this.


- Fixed overlapping "Advanced search" dropdown in the "Recent attacks" tab of the "Faction" page

Czibule notices here that when attempting to use the "Advanced search" function while on the faction page, the "Search" button is buried by the recent attacks from the chain bar. nikitad was able to fix this.


- Fixed correct "Increase Loan" input field color while inputting values after borrowing all available money

The_SamminAtor reported that when attempting to increase a loan from Duke while already having withdrawn the maximum amount, the background colour for the QTY field was green instead of red. nikitad has corrected this.


- Fixed trade locking error, making the reason clearer

BeerDrinker reports here an issue with regard to the locking mechanism in trades. When a trade has passed the initial acceptance, any cancellation of the currently accepted deal will lock the trade completely requiring it to be fully restarted. Chedburn has agreed to make this locking mechanism clearer with a notification, as well as allowing the trade to be unlocked if the person who accepts the trade cancels it.


- Fixed trade notice regarding modifications after accepting

After a slight spelling error in the notification when a trade is accepted was reported here by Kerminshermin, Chedburn elected to rewrite this message to "
Any modifications made to the trade will need to be accepted again."


- Fixed an issue with the page seen after subscribing

Ahab shows here that when purchasing a subscription, the donation page displays the incorrect message (regarding "Donator Packs" being on their way), as well as some layout issues. These have been fixed by vysdel2.


- Fixed an issue with submitting a user story on the "Newspaper" page

Reported by Frinzell, many issues occurred when attempted to use the "Tell Your Story" functionality of the Newspaper - no confirmation is requested for submission, nor given by the system, and eventually an error info-bar is placed at the top of the page stating "You have reached the limit of submissions creation". These issues were fixed by nikitad.


- Fixed encoding issue with Bottle of saké item in action forms on items page

Vengeance_Torn reports here that when sending a bottle of Saké to a user, it displays as Sak due to the use of the special character é. This has been fixed by Xepa4ep.


- Fixed dark border for a title on "B&I" forum

Along with the forum thread title issue above, thread titles in the Bugs & Issues forum were given a dark border incorrectly, which was swiftly fixed on the down low.


Typos
- Fixed casino ban message typo

Reported here, the casino ban message "Your account cannot access the casino for X days" was changed to "day" when X = 1.

- Fixed typo in company special name "Fullfilment"

Reported here, in the Farm job special "Fullfillment" was changed to "Fullfilment" for consistency.

- Fixed crimes typo

Reported here, "Give the kid the $25,000" was changed to "Give the kid $25,000" in the Kidnapping crime.


Extras

- Fixed Safari/iOS automatic crime attempt after boosting nerve

At long last an issue regarding automatic use of nerve, reported over 3 months ago, finally had a solution found by Xepa4ep. Affecting Safari/iOS users, upon refilling your nerve bar (with points or alcohol) the last crime committed would automatically be attempted again with no additional user actions.


- Fixed live update of 'cash in hand' on Stock Market page

It was reported here by Kidross03 that when purchasing shares from the stock market, you must refresh the page or navigate to another before your cash-in-hand display would update. alexanderl was able to reproduce the error before assigning it to nikitad, who was able to fix it.


Honor Bar

This week's new honor bar is "Clever Dick", achieved by completing 25 education courses. This will trigger automatically if you have already completed the requirements.
