Phase Two Begins

Leaked memo from within TUN indicates brutal attrition strategy was planned in the likely event of them losing the island. Long, drawn-out war now predicted.
The announcement of the death of Torn United Nations was premature, it seems, as after being booted from the city centre, Z_junior's troops are now reportedly beginning the second phase of their war plan. According to a leaked memo written by Milk and Cookies' Einstein_, TUN never planned to keep the island's territories, and have been banking on the Insurgency running out of steam once the main part of the war seemed over.

The suggestion that TUN meant to lose the island may seem amusing at first - it's like someone turning up to a party claiming they fully shat themselves as a joke, or Dude's parents pretending he was supposed to turn out like that - but the idea that Junia's men could take advantage of Insurgency complacency is a serious one. And with a new attack strategy in place, and the strong stench of smug emanating from within the Insurgency ranks, is there a chance that TUN might make a comeback? Is phase two really beginning? Is Wolverine going to be in this one?

Potentially, yes. Not Wolverine, the other thing. For a start, it now appears that JFA has no immediate plans to leave the Torn United Nations - or if they do, they won't admit it. Many TUN members contacted me in light of the comments made by Insurgency leaders in our previous article, including Dredd, a JFA member, who insisted his side are not withdrawing from the alliance. Furthermore, an anonymous member of one of the PT factions claims that anyone claiming otherwise is being more economical with the truth than TheLuvlillypink is with soap and detergent.

"I wouldn't say TUN is disbanded, more like scattered and looking to regroup... picking their spots again on the map. I don't think new leadership will emerge, but definitely some strategy will have to change. R* just out cycled everyone with their heavy hitters on every single major wall."

The aforementioned memo by Einstein_ suggests that this change in strategy was planned all along, though. In the document, the M&C leader explicitly says that territorial wars will no longer be fought versus the Insurgency. He does not specify what type of war TUN will bring to their rivals, but if were to guess, I would say creamy, hot, and viscose.

TUN's recent strategy mostly involves beating the crap out of Insurgency's less powerful allies, and as a result they've drawn criticism, particularly for their use of heavy hitters in JFK to attack the comparatively weak factions of Elite and Elite Retro. On Tuesday, the latter was involved in three territorial battles with JFK and JFK 2.1 at WNG, VNG and MNC on the border of sectors 4 and 5, and this move followed a raid on Elite main over the weekend.

According to one Elite insider, his faction were tipped off by persons unknown that Elite Retro were to be sector 7'd by Dystopia - a reported sub, sub-faction of Milk and Cookies, whatever the f**k that means. Retro were preparing for a chain that weekend, so they were ready when the battle came on Friday afternoon. As it happens, Ghost Ship joined Dystopia to fight Elite Retro on two fronts, but Retro fought back with help from Elite, Unbroken Warriors and Toxic Reign.

Peace was eventually achieved with these two factions, but as soon as this war ended the Elite main faction was hit by a TUN raid, with JFK's territorial armies moving towards Elite Retro in tandem. Then, "after the siege SA and JFK raided Trinity since Trinity had started war against SA while Retro was defending against Dys and GS. With JFK 2.1 our new neighbors Retro went on the offensive and attacked first and then JFK 2.1 attacked back. JFK then came in with a follow up and that's where we currently are... It [the war] is far from over, TUN has just switched targets."

Indeed they have. On Saturday, Preacher posted this revealing message which purportedly came from a leading member of TUN. I can reveal that most people's suspicions were true; the player Preacher was talking to was TUN leader Z_Junior. It seems his plan is clear. The Insurgency's weaker factions, and indeed any other small factions who have helped them or moved for them, are now TUN's main target. If you've annoyed TUN over the past month, you can expect some attention. And Insurgency won't come to help.

Another insider within Elite contacted me to claim that TUN's attacks against the smaller Insurgency factions are intended to instill fear. He told me that Elite have been hit by both JF and PT raids since they were mentioned in the newspaper, and that TUN's forces may continue with this tactic if it has the desired effect.

"They may be under the impression that if they intimidate them enough, then offer the olive branch of brotherhood, the smaller factions may relent and join them to stop the constant raids? Who knows their strategy here. It certainly comes across as a bullying mentality, pick off the weak."

Considering their lesser numbers, I think what TUN is doing is a wise move. However, their actions are not tantamount to bullying, as some have suggested. Both sides have traded accusations of tyranny and oppression against lesser factions. To that I say phooey. This is war. If I have to fight a five-year-old disabled boy to keep my own life you'd better believe I'm kicking away his crutches before he gets a shot in. In fact, I've already done it as a precautionary measure. My trial is on Thursday.

Those who claim to be victims while occupying prime sector 1 territory are no more in suffering than that Australian senator who got humpty dumptied for being a racist c**t. Elite Retro have some valid complaints as they aren't part of the Insurgency, and Trinity also have grounds for calling out Z_Junior's behaviour, as we'll find out later in the week. But anyone who is a full Insurgency member can hardly be seen as easy prey. TUN have had their fair share of crybaby moments in this war so far, but now Insurgency have the island, it seems they're the ones who want to take the moral high chair.

At the time of writing, Elite main were still being raided, but have only lost minimal respect after their faction's members were temporarily removed to limit the damage. You may therefore think that some members of TUN might consider these attacks unworthy of their time, considering the relative lack of rewards. But not MadMikeTyson. He says that TUN is full of people who will follow Z_Junior's orders whatever they may be.

"I would have stopped playing years ago if it wasn't for his guidance. If he wants me to spend the next year using my energy to beat up people who have irked him, that's what I'll be doing. I think a lot of people here will feel the same way... We haven't really done anything of note in this current system so my hope is that we are just getting warmed up with these attacks on smaller factions!"

What baffles me is how little Insurgency are doing to strangle the TUN comeback in its crib. On Monday, I asked King_David, leader of One Punch, whether Insurgency leaders had been given instructions for the coming week. He said no. I also asked Alexstrasza if there was a plan to attack PT now they've moved into Unrelenting's old territory, and he said there wasn't. With no obvious post-war strategy in place, and no help forthcoming, some members of Elite are beginning to question their loyalty to the Insurgency.

"It appears to me (and this is my opinion, not necessarily that of the faction) that we have done their bidding, and so we are lambs to the slaughter now. There is definitely little in terms of retaliation from the Insurgency for our efforts. however there may be talks that I am unaware of. Our members have been approached individually by JF members during their raid on us to join their ranks after being moved out of the faction, coincidence? I will leave that to you."

By the time this article goes out, Elite Retro will have been steamrollered by JFK. My Elite insider says there are plans to counter this, but I fear that without Insurgency help, their efforts will be in vain. And on top of all that, I've heard from several different revive factions that many of Insurgency's revive contracts actually ran out last week - they will not run to March 31st as we reported earlier.

Admittedly, this is an issue both sides have had to deal with lately. An insider in Medicare claims that their members have had trouble getting paid recently too, and the extended version of the leaked post by Einstein_ seems to confirm these rumours.

Of course, both Insurgency and TUN could make use of freelance revivers for a time, but if another major battle breaks out, the spoils will go to whoever can get their healers' asses in gear quickly. Z_Junior's fanatical followers will bash their heads into a brick wall repeatedly the minute he tells them to, so perhaps he does indeed have the edge if his side are planning to engage in unconventional warfare.

They've certainly shown an appetite for it so far; filling their walls with young players, attacking their own factions, hiring Evil-Duck to bomb people (allegedly, but probably), raiding, and now they're battering the weakest members of the Insurgency. TUN have tried it all. As an example, at 4 am this morning, I was anonymously attacked by a stranger while fast asleep. Sophie of JFK then admitted she was behind the attack, which confused me no end.

Why would you attack someone when you know they aren't active, and do so anonymously, only to then tell them who you are? Not only does this behaviour beggar belief, it also serves as a handy example of TUN's "maverick" approach to battle strategies in the war so far. But say what you want about them. The one trait TUN do possess is unpredictability. God only knows what insane tactics TUN will try next.

But if Insurgency aren't careful, and they continue to strut around as if they own the joint, they may come to regret taking the island in the first place. For make no bones about it, Torn United Nations are by no means finished in this war. And even if they do eventually lose out to the Insurgency, you can be damn sure they'll have caused them some bother on their way out. Not because it makes sense. And not because anyone will have fun.

But because the cult of Z_junior demands it.
