Let's have a look through the latest Patch List as posted by Chedburn to see what updates, changes, and fixes have been made to Torn this week, and what they mean for you.
Please note, the updates and bugs documented in this article are worked on by a team of developers. Where a single developer is individually mentioned, it simply reflects who confirmed the report as fixed or complete, and not that they were solely responsible.
Updates, Changes, and Additions
- Added 'Weapon Experience' level to item information (for those who have it unlocked).
For those who have the ability to gain weapon experience, which is unlocked upon completing the Combat Training Bachelor course, you will now be able to see your experience level on all weapons. This was added after a suggestion from Solon reached the upvote requirement.
- Added employee count and capacity to company profiles.
- Changed faction member count / faction capacity to be consistent with company employee capacity.
It was suggested by Th30d0r3 to add the current amount of employees to a companies profile, which would allow the user to see if there is any space before applying (e.g. '3/10 employees'). Chedburn confirmed this has been added — and for consistency, this change was extended to a faction's member list.
- Changed company employee lists to order by job position.
Company employee lists are now ordered by job position, which are sorted by the required working stats — with the highest requirements being at the top.
- Changed registration page to hide user referral field if user came from an advertisement.
- Changed registration page to block exploitative referral names containing certain keywords.
About two months ago, Googleplay wrote a thread entitled "How to Get Referral Merits", in which he outlined a method to trick unsuspecting new signups into being an existing user's referral, even if they came to Torn because they saw a social media advertisement. During registration, new users are asked how they found Torn, so if an existing user has a name such as "Googleplay" and the new signup found Torn in the Google Play store, they will unintentionally add "Googleplay" as a referral.
He goes on to explain that he was worried about exploiting a bug and mailed bogie, who wrote back "You should see how many "facebook" gets ;)". Since this thread, an alarming number of users began attempting to exploit this by changing their name to such variants and "-facebook", "-FACEBOOK-" and "AdsFacebook". Eventually, something had to be done, so a block has been put in place to stop these names being possible. The referral field for the registration page will also be hidden if the user came from an advertisement as it can be assumed that no-one referred these users.
- Changed "Factions" top-bar title to "Faction" on mobile.
Smokey123 reported here that the faction tab in mobile view was labelled as 'Factions', and perhaps should be changed to 'Faction'. Chedburn agreed and passed it along to ivanu for resolving. Nikitad confirmed this change had been made.
- Improved crimes commit result background (pure css instead of image load).
The results background for crimes committed has been changed to pure CSS, instead of image load, for better performance.
Bugs, Fixes, and Typos
- Fixed issue with Safari browser automatically using nerve within Crimes in the background.
Softdong reported here an issue that has been plaguing users on iOS and Safari, where their Nerve is automatically used upon visiting the 'Crimes' page without showing the result. The only indication of what's happened is if the user gets a bad result, landing them in Hospital or Jail. However, this has finally been fixed, as confirmed by svyat770.
- Fixed issue with previous cards briefly appearing in high-low when they're flipped over.
Scarlett reported here that when playing Hi-Low and selecting 'Start', the two previously selected cards are shown for a moment before two completely different ones being shown. aurel1 confirmed that this issue had already been fixed, and would be live later that day.
- Fixed new honors / medals not losing their 'new' status when viewing the 'latest' category
WAGABUND reported here that a few of their latest honor bars were still highlighted under the 'Latest' tab, and this was the case on any of their devices. Chedburn stated that if he had actually selected one of the other categories it would have resolved it for them, but that he'd fixed the underlying issue for the next update.
- Fixed blocking use of Lottery Voucher when banned from the casino.
It was reported here, by UnknownT, that they were still able to use Lottery Vouchers during their casino ban. Chedburn noted that this ban blocks the Casino specifically, but could be extended to related items as well.
- Fixed issue with Logistics Management Repatriated special not allowing travel back home with 1 life.
Scalper reported that, upon attempting to travel home after being hospitalized abroad, he was unable to do this, despite being in a Logistics Management company. It took some time, but Chedburn finally worked out that the issue was due to Scalper having 1 life, and it has now been fixed.
- Fixed inconsistent time formatting on Messages, Events & Awards pages.
Ninivah reported that the time formatting on the Messages and Events pages were in 12-hour, despite everywhere else being in 24-hour. Chedburn noted that while it was quite a task, he had already done most of the work to accommodate this, and spent the day resolving it. Not long after, Chedburn noted that he'd also resolved this on the Awards page.
- Fixed weapon experience bar showing 1% when at 0 EXP.
An issue causing the weapon experience bar to show as 1%, when EXP is 0, has been resolved. This was presumably fixed by Xepa4ep.
- Fixed gender icon linking to other pages.
Abbadon_ reported here that while viewing someone else's bazaar, and then clicking on the gender icon, they would be directed to their own bazaar. This was due to the fact that the icon was linking to a stripped version of your current page. Nikitad confirmed the issue as resolved.
- Fixed staff icon appearing as 'Admin' for newly promoted Moderators.
DeKleineKobini reported here that Moderators, Faustus and HavokGDI had the wrong Staff icon. Chedburn found that upon directly promoting someone to Moderator, their icon would be set as Admin, which has now been fixed.
- Fixed scrolling to the specified category defined in URL on the personal stats page.
LouBaker reported that the direct linking to a specific category on the personal stats page did not work as expected, instead, it did nothing. Nikitad has confirmed this to be resolved.
- Fixed issue with different encoding of special symbols in mailbox and faction newsletter.
Helcostr reported here that while the Faction Newsletter attempts to convert Unicode into an ASCII equivalent, Mailbox simply uses a question mark as a placeholder. Xepa4ep has confirmed this is now resolved.
- Fixed displaying apostrophes in company names on the search tool.
Mitchel reported that companies in the search tool did not correctly encode apostrophes in the company name, instead, displaying as their HTML equivalent. Nikitad has confirmed this is now resolved.
Typos
- Fixed general spelling / grammar issues.
1. Killik reported that a Typo present in one of the Duke's quotes on the Loan page, "so you now yous can ...". While acknowledging that Duke speaks in a certain way, Chedburn confirmed that he'd corrected the extra "yous" that was present.
BBCode Editor
- Added the image link validation (inserting a link with a length more than 2000 characters).
- Added an error message when attempting to upload images with incorrect URLs.
Harley reported that upon attempting to add an image with an unnecessarily long URL, the page was frozen for a few minutes. The URL also could not be removed from the 'Add Image' tool. Harley had also reported here that no errors would be shown when attempting to add an incorrect image URL. Nikitad confirmed that both of these issues have been resolved.
- Fixed resizing of images after adding them.
Harley reported here that there wasn't any way to resize images in the Editor without messing up the resolution. For users on a PC, this could easily be worked around by holding down the shift key, but for those on mobile, this solution isn't possible. Nikitad confirmed this is now resolved.
- Fixed quote formatting in newspaper articles.
The formatting of quotes in Newspaper articles has been resolved, presumably by Xepa4ep.
- Fixed displaying emoji icons after adding them.
Josephine reported that when attempting to add emojis to a forum post before clicking on to the editor field, they would be displayed at the top of the page instead. This was also the case for images and links. Nikitad confirmed this is now resolved.
- Fixed moving the cursor into editor field when quoting a post.
It was reported by BeerDrinker that when quoting a post in the Forums, the cursor would not be automatically moved into the editor field. This has now been resolved by Xepa4ep.
- Fixed replacing `long dash` with `--`
Stewie reported that while editing a Newspaper article, the EM Dash would be replaced with two Hyphens. Xepa4ep has confirmed to have fixed this issue.
Poker 2.0 Beta
- Added Poker score updating to 2.0.
Poker score will now be updated while playing Poker 2.0, giving users who prefer to play on the beta a chance to work towards the honor bar, "Poker King".
Furthermore, an issue reported by Smokey123 has been resolved by Ashev, where Poker score was not increased until leaving the table, and will now be updated immediately after winning.
- Fixed money vanishing when changing table quickly.
TheNewWalker reported here that money would vanish into thin air upon quickly changing tables. Ashev confirmed they had refunded their money and has presumably fixed the underlying issue.
- Changed timeout logic to check instead of timing out when possible.
The timeout logic in Poker 2.0 has been changed to check instead of timing out when possible. This change was presumably made by Ashev.
Honor Bar
This week's Honor Bar is "Shielded", achieved by gaining 1,000,000,000 Defense. This was triggered for users who have already reached this milestone with a script on the day of release.
