Find out how to enter, how to win, and how to avoid being a creepy little pervert over the next few weeks.
The annual Mr and Ms Torn competition returns this Friday, with citizens able to begin uploading their creative and captivating images from 5 pm Torn City Time on the 5th of July. There have been no changes made to the format of this event from last year, but if you’re new to our city, Mr and Ms Torn is basically a massive popularity contest, with one male and one female crowned by the public on the basis of their attractiveness, creativity or hilarity.

From Friday, players can submit a picture to either the Mr or Ms Torn competition which they think will get players to vote for them. You may decide to pull a sexy pose, or perhaps you’ll try to depict some kind of funny scene involving a burning warehouse. Either way, your image must include your Torn name or ID number and the year (2019), and be submitted before July 20th. From the moment you upload your image other players will start rating it between 1 and 10 - hold on to your self-esteem folks! Entries close on the 20th of July, with voting permitted up until 5 pm TCT on the 25th of July.
All first-time participants will be awarded the Allure honor bar, and a maximum of ten tokens can also be earned depending on where your entry ranks when voting has finished. The individual winners of Mr and Ms Torn will receive equippable crown items as well as 10,000 points. Second and third will take home 5,000 and 2,500 points respectively.

So that’s all you need to know if you’re entering Mr and Ms Torn, but what if you’re thinking about harassing them? Each year, a handful of over-confident young chaps - and it's almost always men - try their hand at wooing some of the Ms Torn contestants. And when I say wooing, I mean annoying, abusing, disturbing and bombarding them with… well, you can probably guess. Insert aubergine emoji here.
This year, to prevent you from embarrassing or incriminating yourselves, we’ve come up with a handy guide as to how you should conduct yourselves on Torn during the competition and beyond. Our examples are based entirely off the real reports made to our staff over the years, so if any of them sound familiar, then yes, we’re talking about you and that thing you did that time. Remember? Because we do.
And to ensure you understand our guidelines correctly, we’ve presented them in the form of a brand new system of crimes. Isn’t that fun?
Crime: Messaging Someone Randomly
Nerve required: 0
Imagined outcome: You get a grateful reply.
Likely outcome: That depends.
This is a social game. Nobody is suggesting you cannot message other players. However, if you are going to cold call a stranger because you like the way they look, be aware you’re probably one of many, so don’t expect a reply - especially if they’re a ten and you’re a five on a non-windy day.
Crime: Messaging Someone More Than Once

Imagined outcome: You receive an apology and discover the person you messaged was in a car crash and was only just able to reply today. They thank you for chasing up.
Likely outcome: You get ignored again, or told to go away, and end up featured on r/niceguys.
Torn may be a social game, but that doesn’t mean everyone is obliged to talk to you. If your first message doesn’t get a response, there’s likely a reason for that. Maybe you were a little bit creepy without meaning to be, or perhaps they had a bad day. It doesn’t mean you’re a worthless piece of s**t who deserves to be ignored, so don’t take this personally and start spamming someone. Flooding / Spamming is against Torn’s rules, and if you do this, you may receive a formal warning.
Crime: Hitting On Someone
Nerve required: 3
Imagined outcome: They reciprocate, and romance blossoms.
Likely outcome: You are shot down in flames quicker than a drone over Iranian airspace.
Internet romances do happen, and some people have met their real-life spouses through Torn. But if I were a betting man - and oh boy am I ever - I’d say these dalliances likely started with a gentle conversation, not an invitation to cyber role-play a Nazi dungeon torture scene. It doesn't even have to be that weird either. One infamous creep who is thankfully no longer active in Torn was reported by several people to have said he “wanted them badly”. If you’re hitting on someone that directly in your first few messages, you’re going to look desperate. And nobody likes desperation. That’s why I never donate to charity.
Crime: Attacking Them For Ignoring You

Imagined outcome: Your victim realises you’re a big sexy tough guy and submits to your every whim.
Likely outcome: You are blocked, attacked or bountied.
Torn is a violent game, so players are welcome to attack and bounty others as they see fit. Staff cannot intervene in these matters, so if someone does start bothering you, it’s best to block them early before things escalate. If you are the botherer, then harassing another player could get you in trouble with their faction or the community at large. Players have been called out for these actions before, and the consequences have resulted in many bullies self-fedding.
Let’s face it, it’s unlikely that anything you do will win someone over if they’ve decided not to reply to you. Instead, leave them alone, buy yourself a six-pack, and drunk message your ex-girlfriend. That's what winners do.
Crime: Verbally Attacking Someone
Nerve required: 5
Imagined outcome: You reduce someone’s self-worth so much they cannot help but adore you.
Likely outcome: You are blocked, reported and warned.
Verbal harassment is against Torn’s rules. All of your chats are logged, and if we see examples of extreme flaming, you will be spoken to by staff. We will see precisely how badly you took your rejection, have ourselves a little laugh, then slap you with a formal warning. You’ll also gain a reputation as an unreasonable person in Torn, meaning you may find yourself on a faction and trading blacklist just because you couldn’t handle rejection.
Crime: Asking For IRL Info
Nerve required: 6
Imagined outcome: You get someone’s address, turn up outside their house at 3 am playing acoustic guitar on their lawn, and they fall madly in love with you.
Likely outcome: You are rejected, and the person gets scared and quits.
Unless you’ve known them for some considerable time, it’s unwise to share your real life info with strangers online, and that includes phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and social media handles. Most people know this, so they’ll be wary of giving you their Instagram or Snapchat straight off the bat. Pestering someone for this info can make them feel unsafe too, so don’t be one of those jerks.
Players should also try to be discrete with what they post on Torn to avoid being tracked down by creeps. We’ve seen countless examples of players who posted images which betrayed personal information, info that could be used to track them down with a little detective work. And speaking of detectives, Champion, who assisted with some parts of this article, provided the following example of why sharing your real life info with strangers is a bad idea:
“There is a guy that has stalked two women I know outside of the game using an app on his phone to change his number so he can text them when they have blocked him. Thankfully, he leaves them alone now but I’m sure he has a new victim, he’s not the type to stop, he also told another lady he would contact her husband if she blocked him and say she was cybering her game spouse took me a month to get her to block his ass.”

I am certainly in no position to kink shame anyone in Torn - I can no longer be trusted to own more than four cucumbers - but there’s a time and a place for sharing your most intimate fantasies, and it isn’t here. What two consenting adults say to each other in a private chat isn't really our business, but the operative word there is consent. Bombard someone with explicit requests and we will take action.
Collete, a male player who once masqueraded as a woman, has a unique insight into what other guys send women. He told me that before he outed himself, he received several requests from men to dominate them, along with some other things a PG-13 game isn’t allowed to describe in detail.
“Well being a woman I had hardly any knowledge. Now I’m male and I’m in voice with these ladies I hear so much dirt and run into so many creepy ****s . One sits in NPC and doesn’t level to hit on new players.”
Poptop is one of the poor souls with the unenviable task of wading through (phrasing) your filth-sodden chat logs whenever a player is reported for inappropriate behaviour. She made it clear that while private, unreported sauciness isn't grounds for action, unwanted or paid-for filth definitely is.
“You will be surprised at how many words fall outside our language filter. And the extent of debauchery of some of our citizens.”
Because she’s cruel and heartless, Poptop shared some of these redacted logs with me to help with this article. After reading them, my genitalia retracted so hard they became a set of internal organs. Haven't you people got Kik or something?
Crime: Begging For / Sharing Nudes

Imagined outcome: You receive nudes. They are just delightful.
Real outcome: You are rejected, mocked or banned.
Nobody wants to see your junk, guys. My meat and two veg look like an albino baby elephant that’s had a stroke. If you are interested in someone, your best bet is to woo them with gentlemanly charm over many years and reveal your terrible shame on your wedding day, at which point it’s too late for her to back out.
Joking aside, it’s not a great idea to send nudes on Torn, because you have no idea who they’ll end up being shared with. Many women understand this, so they’re unlikely to acquiesce to your demands unless they know you very, very well - even after thirty years my cousin still won’t oblige. By entering Mr and Ms Torn, players agree to share an image of themselves, but this doesn’t mean they’re slutty exhibitionists, so don’t go begging them for more.
Also, this is a PG-13 game, and that means some children play Torn. Are you 100% sure that the person you're sending a d**k pic to is of age? What makes you so confident? A good rule of thumb to use is this: When you send an image or a link to a virtual stranger, ask yourself if you’d show it to this eight-year-old boy licking a lollipop.

Likely outcome: You are banned, scammed, fedded and possibly imprisoned.
First offences for this crime often result in either a warning or a mail and chat ban. Second and third offences are always given jail time. I asked Poptop for some examples of the kind of things players have been caught buying and selling on Torn. She gave me the following list:
- a player (who I have now Fedded) who was buying humiliation services,
- ladies - some of whom seem to have real email names like Dave and Jake - offering cyber/cam/kik services for pixel cash.
- other male players who have been formally reported and warned for harassing other players for virtual sexytimes.
These examples were all taken from one week of reports. Charging for or buying sexual services on Torn is not only obscene, but it also breaches our real money trading rules. And if you’re not scared of the prospect of losing your Torn account, TCT Reporter Bainz made this excellent but horrifying point when a cam services ring was broken up in Torn last year:
“The most important issue is age. Torn is intended for players 13 and over, and while there would seem to be an age requirement on the subscriber status due to the use of credit cards, in reality payments are made via amazon and paypal - hardly secure enough to put our minds at ease.”
“Sadly, some players do attempt to seek out underage players on Torn for nefarious purposes. If you are one of these people, we would like to remind you that X-rated endeavors with a minor online will get you some serious real-world jail time, and in all likelihood, you'll be lucky to complete your sentence.”
Nobody knows who is who online. There are plenty of genuine websites for you to share your filth with humans who have been proven to be of legal age. If you try that stuff here, and you end up interacting with a minor, your ignorance won’t save you from punishment. The police will be notified immediately. And unlike in Torn, real-life jails aren’t forgiving.

When you complain about someone showing off their body in a contest like this, ask yourself what you're actually trying to achieve. Are they going to delete their image and cover-up because you, a random internet stranger, doesn't approve of their outfit? Are they going to suddenly get the horn for you because you sound a bit like their daddy when you tell them off? Unlikely.
What's always fun is when someone invokes their imaginary children in these comments, claiming they'd never let their own daughter go out dressed like that. If these red pill failures ever somehow managed to trick a woman into having their child, I imagine they'd criticise the kid for exiting the womb all nude like a slut. And upon realising what a waste of space their father was, the child would proceed to choke themselves with their own umbilical cord just to put an end to his ceaseless prattling.
Sorry, I've gone off topic there. When you tell someone the way they look is wrong, you're doing it to feel important and powerful - but you aren't, and we all know it. All that happens when you pull this kind of s**t is your grotesque arrogance and social ineptitude is made public for all to see. Rather than being lauded for your virtuous comments, we all start picturing you sat there, leering at the screen while clawing at your sweatpant covered groin in the damp, depressing basement where you belong.
If that's what you were going for, then, by all means, keep it up.
So those are some real-life experiences some people have endured in Torn, along with the punishments the perpetrators received. Please bear these things in mind the next time you fall madly in love with one of our Mr or Ms Torn contestants. And if harassment does occur, and it is exposed in the forums, don’t be one of those incel losers who blames the victims or tells them to ignore it. As Poptop explains, it’s never that simple, and unless you've been harassed yourself, your hypothetical solutions are about as useful as homeopathic chemotherapy.

Go to your Mailbox. Click the Ignore List tab. Put their name or ID in the box. Click Ignore.

Open a chat window with the player. Click the Stop Sign to Block. Click the Warning Triangle to Report.

What's always fun is when someone invokes their imaginary children in these comments, claiming they'd never let their own daughter go out dressed like that. If these red pill failures ever somehow managed to trick a woman into having their child, I imagine they'd criticise the kid for exiting the womb all nude like a slut. And upon realising what a waste of space their father was, the child would proceed to choke themselves with their own umbilical cord just to put an end to his ceaseless prattling.
Sorry, I've gone off topic there. When you tell someone the way they look is wrong, you're doing it to feel important and powerful - but you aren't, and we all know it. All that happens when you pull this kind of s**t is your grotesque arrogance and social ineptitude is made public for all to see. Rather than being lauded for your virtuous comments, we all start picturing you sat there, leering at the screen while clawing at your sweatpant covered groin in the damp, depressing basement where you belong.
If that's what you were going for, then, by all means, keep it up.

And if harassment does occur, and it is exposed in the forums, don’t be one of those incel losers who blames the victims or tells them to ignore it. To Ignore A Player
Go to your Mailbox. Click the Ignore List tab. Put their name or ID in the box. Click Ignore.
To Block / Report A Chat
Open a chat window with the player. Click the Stop Sign to Block. Click the Warning Triangle to Report.
To Report A Player
Visit their profile. Look for the Warning Triangle on the far right of the Actions box. Click it. Fill in the relevant details.
