First qualifying races scheduled to begin next week. Bugatti Veyron and $1 billion on offer to winner. Prize pool expanded to $8 billion.
The qualifying stages for the Ultimate Racing Tournament begin next Thursday, with multiple races set to be held over three days from the 25th to the 27th to determine the thirty-six qualifying drivers. The tournament proper is scheduled to begin two days after the qualifiers on July 29th, with the group stage and knockout rounds culminating in the grand final held on August 11th.

As ever, a Bugatti Veyron and $1 billion will be on offer to the winner of the URT, with hundreds of millions also paid out to those who reach the final. But the major news is that an expanded prize pool of $8 billion now allows us to pay out to other drivers too, with full details of the URT rewards to be revealed later this week.

To secure your place in the tournament, the first qualifying event is scheduled for the 25th of July and will take place at Hammerhead, with 20-lap races held at 1am, 6am, 10am, 1pm, 6pm and 10pm Torn City Time. When all of the day's races have been completed, the twelve drivers with the fastest times on that track will progress to the main tournament - winning a qualifier does not mean jack s**t.

Further qualifying events will be held on the 26th and 27th at Speedway and Industrial respectively. Each race will provide a further twelve qualifiers each, resulting in a pool of thirty-six drivers once all three days have been completed. 100 drivers will be allowed into every qualifying race, and depending on steward availability, there may be multiple qualifying races happening at once. To ensure you are entering an official URT event, make sure you only join races marked with the official codes below:

If you are unsure whether a race is official, please check this forum thread for the list of official qualifying race links, which will be updated when new races are posted. Only times posted in the official URT qualifiers will count towards your qualification status. The official URT stewards are Sugarvalves, Garfthegreat, JoeyDoughnuts77, Sugarcube, MrDoe, Rogue, and Rum4nyby. Any races run by other players do not count towards URT qualification.

Qualifiers can be entered by visiting the Race Track, clicking Custom Events and joining the races marked with the URT codes specified above. Races will be joinable a few hours before their scheduled start time, but do not wait until the last minute, as it is expected that most will fill up quickly. Drivers may enter multiple qualifiers, but please do not enter if you have already qualified on a previous day - if you finish in the top twelve on one track, you are through to the main event. Anyone caught selling qualifier or tournament spots will be banned from the event.

Once we have our thirty-six drivers, a billion-dollar randomising machine will place them into six groups of six, with no seeding or ranking being used whatsoever - your driver skill will not help you acquire an easier group, but you do agree to allow your DS to be published by entering the competition.

Each group of six will then race together over six races in an attempt to acquire points, with three given for first place, two for second place and one for third place. These six races will take place once every two days from the 29th of July until the 8th of August across six different tracks. The start times for each group stage race is 10 pm, but each group's steward will send out the race password at least twelve hours beforehand.

Race 1 - 29/07 - Docks
Race 2 - 31/07 - Mudpit
Race 3 - 02/08 - Two Islands
Race 4 - 04/08 - Convict
Race 5 - 06/08 - Meltdown
Race 6 - 08/08 - Uptown

After all six races have been run, the top two from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. In the event of two or more drivers ending on equal points, the qualifying criteria will be, in order, as follows:

1.) Most 1st place finishes
2.) Most 2nd place finishes
3.) Most podium finishes
4.) Average finishing position over all six races
5.) Fastest cumulative time over all six races
6.) Tie-breaker head-to-head race

The twelve qualifying drivers will have little time to prepare for the semi-finals, with these taking place simultaneously on Friday 9th of August at 10 pm. Both races will be run on Parkland, and the top three from each semi-final will progress to Sunday's final at Stone Park.

At noon on Sunday the 11th, a Sunday Driver's race will be held to see who can finish in the slowest time possible, with the "winner" receiving $100 million. Then at 3 pm it's time for the main event, with the final six drivers going head-to-head at Stone Park to fight for the Ultimate Racing Tournament title.

tl;dr: The URT qualifiers will be open to joining on Wednesday, and will run from Thursday until Saturday. Those who post the twelve fastest times from each day's race calendar will qualify for the main event which starts on Monday.
