Let's have a look through the latest Patch List as posted by Chedburn to see what updates, changes, and fixes have been made to Torn this week, and what they mean for you.
Please note, the updates and bugs documented in this article are worked on by a team of developers. Where a single developer is individually mentioned, it simply reflects who confirmed the report as fixed or complete, and not that they were solely responsible.
Updates, Changes, and Additions
- Added priming & safing mechanic to Dirty Bombs.
As a result of a second Dirty Bomb having its effects reversed due to being purchased via illegitimate means (see here and here), bogie and Chedburn have come up with measures to ensure no more need ever be reversed. In order to drop a Dirty Bomb it must now be "Primed" 24 hours in advance. Once Primed, it remains so whilst in a players inventory, and can be dropped at will. If the Dirty Bomb is traded or added to a Bazaar or Display cabinet, it will be "Safed" and require Priming again.
- Changed dirty bombs to close all shops, including Big Al's Gun Shop, except for new players (with leaf icon).
Kib reported that they were able to access Big Al's Gun Shop, despite every other City shop being closed during the recent Dirty Bomb. Chedburn noted that this exception had been made for brand new players so as not to disrupt them too much. However, he also said that this could also be changed so that it could be closed for anyone other than new players (with the leaf icon).
- Changed 'Blindfire' item bonus accuracy reduction to affect the basic item accuracy instead of final hit chance.
ItsZahid reported in this thread that while using the Rheinmetall MG 3 weapon, he ended up missing his opponent when the "Blindfire" weapon bonus activated, despite having substantially more speed than his opponent's dexterity (enough for his hit chance to be 100%). Initially the issue was disregarded as intended behaviour, however after Proxima posted an attack log in which he missed an opponent despite having more than 170 million times their dexterity in speed, Chedburn took a second look at the mechanic and deduced there was a misunderstanding with how the special should work; "Blindfire" should reduce the base accuracy value of the weapon on each successive hit until the clip is empty, rather than modifying the final hit chance value and forcing a miss chance that is quasi-independent of battle stats. aurel1 confirmed that this had been changed.
- Changed Self Defence bachelor bonus to affect the final damage of fists instead of internal damage modifier.
Proxima noticed in this report that there was an inconsistency between the stated perk given for the Self Defence bachelor ("+100% damage when using fists") and the actual effect it was having (fists would not be dealing 100% more damage). It was pondered whether the education perk description was inaccurate, or whether the perk was mistakenly modifying the base damage value of fists, as opposed to the final output damage value. aurel1 confirmed that the perk was modifying the base damage value, and Chedburn agreed that this should be corrected such that the final output damage value should instead be modified by +100%. aurel1 has now confirmed this has been altered.
- Changed error message if an attack no longer exists (leave/mug/hosp selected in another tab).
Dreemin34 reported here that while switching between multiple attack windows, they would receive the error "INCORRECT USER ID". For example, open an attack with the same user in two different windows, go through the fight in one of them, and before selecting an option — Leave, Mug, or Hospitalize — switch to the second window, which will update accordingly for you to finish the fight. Select one of the options, head back to the first window, and again select an option. This will present you with the new error, "THIS FIGHT NO LONGER EXISTS". This was changed by aurel1.
Bugs, Fixes, and Typos
- Fixed Stock Market rounding total sum-up upon purchase; now it will always round down (same as sale).
Pistachio reported this issue here after losing money from a stock market sale. It occurred because of the $1 discrepancy from buying and selling shares, with the price being rounded up while buying, and down when selling. Chedburn has now adjusted this to always round down.
- Fixed issue when viewing the last page of submissions on Mr/Miss Torn.
Hollow_Knight noticed that upon attempting to view the last page of Mr. Torn entries, they would receive a JSON error, which stated "Sort operation used more than the maximum 33554432 bytes of RAM". Xepa4ep reported this as fixed.
- Fixed issue with equip/unequip item on confirmation message when replacing another item.
Owen reported here that when equipping a weapon in 'grid view' that will replace another, the confirmation informing you of such wouldn't disappear and show that the item had been equipped. Each subsequent click on the "Yes" button would unquip and re-equip the weapon. Xepa4ep reported this has been resolved.
- Fixed issue on mobile view when using Toilet Paper, Poison Mistletoe & Stink Bombs.
waTer noticed that while attempting to use items such as Poison Mistletoe, Toilet Paper, and Stink Bombs — any item that requires you to type in the users' name — doing so when in "grid view" would just close the use panel as if it had never been selected. Xepa4ep has resolved this one.
- Fixed horizontal scrolling on "Attack" tab of the "Settings" page on mobile screen mode.
SoloWarrior reported here that while viewing the "Attack" tab in "Preferences, the page could be scrolled to the right. Nikitad has confirmed this is now resolved.
- Fixed "of [Company name]" (instead of "at") for all company positions in the "Job" field on the profile page.
Champion reported a discrepancy between the text displayed in the Company employee/director icon, and the "Job" field in the "Basic Information" panel; both of these are now simply "of [Company name]. This change was confirmed as having been done by Nikitad.
- Fixed money transaction racing condition between points market and bazaar.
Over the past week, a number of transaction issues have been spotted, and have been fixed between points market and bazaar. These occur when purchases or actions are made that would increase your money at the exact same time as another positive transaction. For example, if you had some points purchased at the exact same time as a bazaar purchase, the money from the bazaar purchase (or vice-versa) will not be credited.
- Fixed disabling of "Got it" button until "I agree" is checked on the Rules page.
CloudJumper reported here that the "GOT IT!" button should be disabled until the "I agree to Torn's rules" is checked. Nikitad confirmed this has been amended.
- Fixed displaying footer on the "Newspaper" page on EDGE browser.
An issue with displaying the footer in the Newspaper on the EDGE browser has now been resolved.
- Fixed appearance issue with user icons in the "Search results" page in mobile view.
DevilStar reported that while viewing the search results in mobile view, users' icons were appearing mirrored. This was confirmed as fixed by Nikitad.
- Fixed attack page error while in hospital abroad.
Lordvader85 reported here that while clicking the 'People' link in an abroad Hospital, the option to attack is still visible. Upon clicking on the attack link, they would receive a 550 error. aurel1 has since corrected the error, but an update is still being worked on to disable these attack links while in hospital.
- Fixed issue with previous bounty reasons in icons sticking to new higher valued bounties.
An issue that doesn't appear to have been reported in the forums where previous bounty reasons were sticking to new bounties with higher values has been resolved.
Typos
- Fixed general grammar / typos.
- Fixed maximum bounties error description.
NurseJoy reported here that after attempting to place additional bounties, after already placing 10, they were met with an error "THERE IS A MAXIMUM OF 10 BOUNTIES THAT CAN BE PLACED ON A SINGLE PERSON ...". However, as this is no longer the case - with the limit being on the person placing the bounties, not the total - it was realised the message should be changed. Chedburn has resolved this.
- Fixed missions decline text typo.
Wicka noticed that after declining the mission "A Thor Loser", the "…" symbol was displayed instead of an ellipsis. This has since been fixed by aurel1.
Extras (Not included in the Patch list):
1. In a report by Proxima, he, and a few others noticed a message upon navigating to the 'Awards' page of having missing merits returned to them. Although initially unsure of how this was happening, Chedburn opted to remove this message from the page and instead start logging it internally. It was discovered that each person who experienced this had just received the new honor bar, and after investigating, Chedburn found that Church Mouse was setting the user's merit count to '1'. For example, if you had 21 merits, and received Church Mouse, they'd be suddenly set to '1', and then instantly increased to 22 upon visiting the Awards page, automatically fixing it. This issue was resolved by aurel1.
Honor Bar
This week's Honor Bar is Church Mouse. It is achieved by being mugged for exactly $1, and is triggered immediately upon this happening.
