This week we will have a look through the Patch list for the week of 17/09/2019 to see what updates, changes and fixes have been made to TORN, and what it means for you.
Please note, the updates and bugs documented in this article are worked on by a team of developers. Where a single developer is individually mentioned, it simply reflects who confirmed the report as fixed or complete, and not that they were solely responsible.
Updates, Changes, and Additions
- Added trade descriptions to the event provided when it is accepted by the other person
L4suicide stated in this report that they keep track of trades using their description, which is shown in the "initiated trade" event. However, this does not help if they started the trade, and suggested the description should be also included in the "accepted trade" event. Chedburn noted that he'd managed to find a way for this to work, and that it would be live the following day.
- Added exceptions to the bounty block for new players, if they are in a raid / on a territory war wall
Jynx reported here an issue regarding New Player Protection restrictions, whereby new players under 14 days should be able to be bountied if they decide to sit on a Territory Wall. Chedburn agreed with this and changed it. Now, new players will no longer be protected from bounties if they are in a Raid, or sat on a Territory Wall.
- Changed auction house current bid to be $1 above above the second highest bidder (instead of 1%)
- Changed auction house to require new bids to be 1% over the current bid
After a lengthy discussion in MarauderIIC's bug report, Chedburn has made some changes to the Auction House. The old requirement that new bids had to be 1% over the current bid has been removed, and replaced with a nrew requirement that new bids must be at least $1 above.. Chedburn also noted that after seeing how these changes look after the next patch, he will look into making some of the other improvements mentioned.
Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
- [WAI] Added support for Bank page
Crays reported here that while attempting to setup a bank investment, they were unable to select their preferred length of time using a screen reader (NVDA), being limited to just 1 week. nikitad has confirmed that WAI support has now been added to the Bank page. However, Crays has since created a new report on this issue and nikitad has confirmed that while it does work with another screen reader, it does not work for NVDA, and will be fixed.
- [WAI] Added support for Education page
It was reported here by Crays that they were unable to select education courses using their NVDA screen reader. It was confirmed by nikitad that WAI support for the education page has now been added.
- [WAI] Added support for Tutorial panels
WAI support has been added to page Tutorial panels site-wide.
- [WAI] Added support for gained gym progress
Livdera, a player who navigates the site with the use of a screen reader (Freedom Scientific JAWS), reported here that they were unable to see percentage progress to the next Gym, as their screen reader couldn't access it. nikitad confirms this is resolved.
Bugs, Fixes, and Typos
- Fixed occasional slowness on Elimination revenge / recent pages
The Elimination pages, Revenge and Recent, have been optimized to fix some occasional slowness!
- Fixed issue with currency dropdown on the Donator page when in mobile/tablet screen views
- Fixed gap between sidebar and page blocks on the Donator page on mobile view
An issue that was present with the currency dropdown on the Donator page that was causing the countries in the list to be squashed together has been resolved for mobile and tablet views. Additionally, an issue causing a gap to be displayed between the sidebar and page blocks on the Donator page has been resolved for mobile view.
- Fixed issue opening faction areas (in top bar) in new windows
syntaxera reported that when attempting to open the faction areas (Info, Territory, Upgrades, etc) in a new tab, you would be incorrectly sent to the main faction page. nikitad confirmed this is now resolved.
- Fixed issue with burn effect when flamethrower was used in an attack
SeaLion noticed here that in their last 30 to 40 attacks, they had exactly 0 burns occur while having a burn chance of 40%. Proxima posted on the report with some of his own findings noting that it did indeed appear to be broken, mentioning that for SeaLion to get 0 burns with 40% chance in 20 attacks would have a ~0.003% chance of happening. aurel1 confirmed this has been fixed.
- Fixed inability to send special items as part of mission contracts with a minus money balance
Hank reported here two issues. The first is that while working on a mission ("Cracking Up") for Duke, they had interrogated the target twice, and he was given 2 separate codes despite Duke's Safe not looking as if it has a dynamic code. However, aurel1 stated that due to the way the items system works, it was designed this way, also noting that it's not really a big issue. Lastly, they reported that while currently in negative funds, they were unable to send Duke his will. Chedburn noted that he'd made a fix for it and that it should work for all special mission items, but added that there are other contracts that utilise standard items (Leather Gloves & Kitchen Knife, for example), and these cannot be so easily fixed — the best option would be to get out of negative figures as soon as possible.
- Fixed wrong accuracy values when adding items to bazaar and display case
gratify reported that wrong accuracy values were showing on the 'Add to bazaar' page. It was noted by Stewie that this issue was only present on the 'All' tab, and that Display Cabinet was also affected. The issue was resolved by aurel1.
- Fixed issue with sending money failing to anonymize the user in some cases
Father reported that while attempting to send cash anonymously, this masking would occasionally be removed upon sending. They included a screen recording that confirmed they did indeed check "Anonymous", so it was clear there was some kind of issue present. nikitad confirmed the issue is now fixed.
- Fixed issue with 'closed shop during dirty bomb event' overriding 'unable to access while in hospital'
Owen reported that when attempting to access any of the shops in the city during the "State of Emergency" period upon activation of a Dirty Bomb while in the Hospital, the user would receive the "... but the shop is closed" message, instead of "... which is blocked when in hospital". The report was confirmed as fixed by Chedburn.
Typos
- Fixed general grammar / typos
1. In this bug report, Aeroroot noticed that the hospital reason for administering the wrong blood type was using "haemolytic", the British equivalent of "hemolytic". Chedburn marked the report as fixed.
2. Stewie noticed that the tutorial panel on the Donator page was still referencing BitPay as payment option with Bitcoin, despite this having been replaced with Coingate. This was resolved by Chedburn.
3. PickleSama reported here an inconsistency with the Display Cabinet page, where the title was incorrectly shown as "Display Case". Chedburn noted that while he has corrected the title of the page to "Display Cabinet", the URL itself will have to remain as "displaycase".
Extras — Not included in the Patch notes
1. Rum4nyby noticed that they were not able to purchase an overpriced item that was sat at the very bottom of a users bazaar (accessible via seemingly endless scrolling) due to the overpriced warning removing the confirmation (Yes / No) buttons. Chedburn stated that he'd managed to find a simple solution, that is simply shortening the confirmation text to just "Buy N x Y for $N?", which has now been changed.
API: Updates, Changes, and Fixes
- [API] Fixed missing territories (that were also properties & gyms) on 'torn' > 'territory' selection
Kivou noticed here while looking at the new territory selections added to the API, that some were missing, including one of their own (IKF). This issue was resolved by Chedburn, noting that it was due to exclusion of territories that were also properties and gyms.
Honor Bar

"Trafficker", achieved by importing 10,000 items from abroad. For those that have already done this, it will be automatically credited.
