48-hour event begins Wednesday at noon. Treats now gained by attacking any player, including non-participants. Happiness reductions removed due to prospect of flooding caused by tearful citizens.
Torn's infamous Trick or Treat event is set to return this week, albeit with a few significant changes that should make things rather interesting. Trick or Treat is a 48-hour event which takes place from noon on Wednesday 30th of October through to noon on Friday the 1st of November. The aim of this game is to collect as many treats as possible, as these treats can later be exchanged for a random selection of items such as cans, candy and booze.
If you wish to take part in this event, you must purchase a Halloween Basket from Sally's Sweet Shop when the event starts on Wednesday at 12:00 TCT. These baskets will sell out quickly, but don't worry if you miss out at first, as they will replenish every fifteen minutes. Now, some people may be understandably wary about joining this event, given that last year's Trick or Treat proved quite traumatic. But don't worry you soft set of bastards, because we've made the whole thing a lot more pleasurable this time around.
In 2018, the only way citizens could acquire treats was to steal them from their fellow Trick or Treaters, who would lose treats when you stole them from their baskets to put in your own. Players also had to manually search for other people with baskets as there was no way of knowing who owned one unless they had already attacked you. And if your victim had no treats on them when someone tried to steal them, they would instead suffer a loss of happiness - something many participants were unaware of before they bought a bucket. A few players wanted to leave the event mid-way through last year because of this, but we wouldn't let them, because we're cruel.

Pictured: Granted, in the scheme of things, we're not THAT cruel.
This year, there are no tricks involved in this event whatsoever. We may as well have called it Treat or Treat because it's basically one big freebie giveaway. Players must again purchase a basket to take part, and once more, you cannot quit halfway through. However, there are no longer any negative consequences for having no treats. In fact, there are zero consequences whatsoever for taking part in Trick or Treat, so you've no bloody excuse not to.
Once you've purchased your basket, all you have to do to collect treats from other people is attack them. It doesn't matter if they have a basket or not, as successful attacks against anyone else in Torn City will give you a chance of collecting a treat. Whether you leave, mug or hospitalise your opponent also does not matter, but what does matter is what you're wearing at the time, and what you're wielding.
Citizens will stand a better chance of shaking down their opponent for a treat if they are wearing certain scary clothing items and masks, or they use a scary weapon for the finishing hit. These items do not guarantee you a treat, but they do make it much more likely that you'll get one. Here is the list of bonus inducing items.
Axe
Chainsaw
Blood-Spattered Sickle
Devil's Pitchfork
Petrified Humerus
Golden Broomstick
Kabuki Mask
Medieval Helmet
Witch's Hat
Straitjacket
Duke's Gimp Mask
Ginger Kid Mask
Scarred Man Mask
Psycho Clown Mask
Nun Mask
Donald Trump Mask '16
Michael Myers Mask '18
Gronch Mask '18
NOTE: These bonuses do not stack, with the exception of the final hit weapon bonus. So wearing a Mask and a Straitjacket will give you one bonus to your chances, not two. However, the final weapon hit bonus will stack with one clothing or mask bonus.
The contents of your Halloween Basket can be swapped at any point during the competition in return for a set of treats - you no longer have to wait until the end of the event. Your basket will remain in your inventory after its contents have been turned in, and you will be able to continue collecting more treats if you wish to do so.There's literally nothing to be gained or prevented by turning your treats in early, though, so you'd probably only do it out of sheer curiosity.
Your basket will upgrade over time based on the number of treats you collect - Note: upgrades are triggered when you turn in your basket - and this upgrade will stay with your basket for future Trick or Treat events if we run them - this event is a prototype, so if all goes well, we will add merits, upgrades & special unique rewards next year. But for now, your basket will simply provide you with an extra 5% chance of obtaining a treat with every upgrade you acquire.
The treats you can potentially receive this year include alcoholic items such as Bottles of Beer and Bottles of Wicked Witch, candy items including Bags of Candy Kisses and Bags of Chocolate Truffles, and energy drinks such as Cans of Munster alongside all three of the newly introduced low-energy can items. Furthermore, those players who place in the top 250 for treats collected will be rewarded with a unique, horror-themed mask item. But who have we gone for this year?
Last year we handed out Michael Myers masks to the top 250 treat collectors. This year, you'll get one of these bad boys.

tl;dr: Trick or Treat starts Weds at noon. Buy a Halloween Basket from Sally to participate. Attack other players to gain treats.
