Read on to hear how the unique tactics and comradery shown by Animal Kingdom helped to upset the odds and inflict an embarrassing defeat upon the mighty Relentless.
On November 18, 2019, the sub-faction of Relentless known as Unrelenting crept through the east side territories and settled next to Desert Eagle. Unrelenting had already reassured another neighboring faction, Evolution, that they were just passing back to sector 1; however, what they were actually planning was an assault, one which would spark off the first major resistance against the land-grabbing habits of the Relentless family.
Relentless, who seem to be in a state of demoralization due to some of their members being put in federal jail and having large amounts of profit removed, seem to have decided they need to stake their claim as Torn's leading faction to avoid being seen as weak. As the strongest faction in Torn, they seem to believe that they are owed a large percentage of all the rackets on the map, regardless of whether they're near them or not. The following message has been received by many small and mid-level factions over recent weeks.
"Give us 90/10 of the racket profits. Or we send you back to sector 7 and take it."
Relentless are happy to flex on anyone who refuses this generous offer and have been known to send a few factions to sector 7 in response to their non-compliance. On one occasion, -John- [1691350] and a few of his fellow faction mates had hopped over to another faction, Savage Plague, to give them aid in the face of these threats. Relentless remembered that.
However, in this instance, there were no threats to be made - at least not at first. Unrelenting asked Desert Eagle to pass through their territories to get at someone else: a simple request, and one which was presumably granted, given the speed at which UR moved through the map. But then a new racket popped up right before Unrelenting made it through Desert Eagle. So Unrelenting did as their main faction told them to do: take Desert Eagle’s Racket. KK would be proud.

The racket in question awarded its holder 500 points a day. Not a bad deal, but in addition to points, UR's taking of this racket also spawned a strong alliance of people in opposition. One that forced them to settle for a different deal. One that would make people question which party was actually the most relentless.
The aforementioned -John- did what any loyal friend would do and hopped over from The Honey Badgers to Desert Eagle almost immediately. He fought tooth and nail, but the threat they faced was too much. He knew he needed to buy time.
WarBirds were bordering the desired racket already and one of the leaders of Desert Eagle, KissedbyFire [288576], contacted Tenacious1 [1989354] with the question of whether WarBirds would or could help out in this situation. Heasleys4hemp [1468764], co-leader of WarBirds, responded by attacking the racket, effectively blocking Unrelenting from being able to launch an assault on the territory.
As a result, when the first Desert Eagle wall fell, Unrelenting couldn't attempt to take the racket right away. Unrelenting then assaulted the next bordering faction, The Honey Badgers, whose leader -John- had been a thorn in their side for a long time. -John- moved back to take charge of his faction and contacted Tenacious1 to see if WarBirds would help. Then he fought long and hard to keep the wall, foregoing sleep in favor of holding THB’s position.
THB held that wall all night, pushing back and damn near winning until Relentless looked over and took notice of how their sub-faction was faring. Relentless themselves could not move out of fear of losing their island territories which they fought so hard for, so they sent in everyone they could from their main faction.

But WarBirds had been preparing for this fight since they first saw Unrelenting in the area. -John- informed Tenacious1 that he would have his sub-faction, Honey Badgers Gone Wild, assault one of Unrelenting's territories to alleviate some of the pressure from the main walls. If WarBirds would step in, they would force their opponents' hands and push them to make even more contracts for revives, so he shifted a territory to allow WarBirds a shot at Unrelenting
By this point, a lot of eyes were on the war, and this was when WarBirds, The Honey Badgers, and Desert Eagle decided to open the floodgates. However, this fight also included WarBirds’ sub-faction, The Nest; a proud little bunch of happy jumpers. But how could they ever hope to help in the face of giants such as Relentless and Unrelenting? The answer was clear: if the faction was willing, they could group together and lower the stats of a target for bigger players to hit.
Group attacks are typically employed when one single person needs to be taken down, someone with high stats like Duke or Bodybagger. As the attacking page tells you, every additional person who joins a fight and makes an action against the victim halves their defense and dexterity stats, allowing them to be successfully hit and damaged more often.
Since large-scale assists aren't typically used as a warring technique, quite a few Relentless and Unrelenting members were given a huge number of defends at first, which they attempted to brag about in the forums. They even PMed members of smaller attacking factions to drive this point home.

What they failed to understand was that these smaller members were already aware of their role in the war: join a fight, throw a smoke, and wait. Some might say they were cannon fodder, but in truth, these extremely active and enthusiastic players helped turn the tides of war.

This strategy worked better than anyone could have predicted. Within thirty seconds of a stronger player initiating a fight, members from smaller factions jumped in and swarmed the target, which allowed bigger players to take on even bigger targets and knock them off the wall faster than they could have otherwise. This caused the smaller factions’ morale to skyrocket: they were now able to stand up to players with 100× their own stats and live to talk about it. Honey Badgers Gone Wild and The Nest worked together to help their main factions take down Unrelenting and Relentless - they could now play a much more active role in the war.

At this time, the rather hastily put-together union which put down Relentless and Unrelenting was simply named the East Side Alliance. That name didn’t stick for long because, in an ironic twist of events, one of Relentless' own members jokingly called it “The Animal Kingdom”, in reference to the fact that these factions all had something to do with animals. People liked it so much that the alliance was completely re-branded. Thus, the newly-minted Animal Kingdom had formulated, in less than two days, a plan, a strategy, and a means to defeat Torn's most powerful group. Someone had finally stood up to the self-proclaimed strongest faction in Torn.

But the war was by no means over. Early morning on Day Two, WarBirds and Desert Eagle came up with a plan. This plan was 100% thought out and not a mistake in any way: they NAP-ed the racket. This prompted Unrelenting to immediately attack the territory and focus all their energy on taking it, which in turn gave WB and DE an opening through which they could counter-attack. With Unrelenting focused so heavily on the racket, it allowed WarBirds to win their wall and start a new wall. A wall that split up Unrelenting’s territories.

Once the racket fell, Unrelenting shifted their focus to their wall with The Honey Badgers to try and split up THB's territories and limit their range of movement. However, their time was running short, and if the looming threat of WarBirds knocking at their door was not addressed, their whole endeavor would have been for naught. The war on two fronts was proving to be more difficult than they had initially anticipated.
Negotiations had to start. If they didn’t, Unrelenting and Relentless faced the possibility of losing to Animal Kingdom before all of Torn. And if that were to happen, they would lose their fearsome reputation which means so much to them. At first, they attempted to turn The Honey Badgers against WarBirds and Desert Eagle. This ended poorly for them.

News and screenshots like this quickly circulated and boosted morale in The Animal Kingdom. Faced with more trouble than they first expected, Relentless and Unrelenting urged the WarBirds to stay out of the conflict, informing them that their alliance with the Honey Badgers would only draw out the pointless war. They questioned the motivation behind the WarBirds' alliance with TBH and DE and asked why WB would join the fight against UR when they weren't even after any of the WarBirds' rackets.
Could it be that Relentless and Unrelenting didn't understand the point of allegiance? Or standing up for a friend? Or maybe they were just dull? No matter the answer, they hoped that convincing WarBirds to withdraw would allow them to win more swiftly, but this tactic only fueled the flames and inspired their opposition to push even harder against their dictator-like rule. After multiple attempts at persuading Animal Kingdom's members to turn on their comrades, people started to wonder. If Relentless was so powerful, why worry so much? Why try and turn factions against each other?

Pictured: Desired rackets
With all eyes on Unrelenting and Relentless, who had paid several billions for revives at this point, they knew they had to give in. They started to realise that this would not end for months - taking one wall a day would mean it would take around two months to clear them all out, and they could tell that the other factions would just keep coming back from Sector 7 to fight again while they were busy.
They also knew that the opposing factions’ war perks were about to activate, which would make this fight even more difficult and expensive. Add in the fact that another faction had just started an assault on their proxy faction and they were being stretched too thinly, Relentless and Unrelenting had but one option left: come to a new agreement.
Unrelenting/Relentless came to the East Side with five rackets in mind to take. After spending a few billion in revives and suffering much more than wounded pride, they left with one sole racket. The terms they suggested to our alliance made for pleasant reading:
“We get the points Racket. Everyone can stay where they are. WarBirds and The Honey Badgers keep theirs. And we leave.”
This deal was agreed on and the NAP’s were implemented. We learned a lot in this war, and by we, I include all of Torn City. Relentless can be hurt. Other big factions can also be taken down if the people will stand up and organise themselves. One day, someone like Relentless might take a step too big and fall. They might bite off more than they can chew.
The numbers don't lie. I have been informed that Relentless and Unrelenting spent a few billion in revives, while WarBirds only spent about $300m. The Honey Badgers' own revive bill was around $1billion, but their members came together to pay it off and the faction only paid $230m. People from all sorts of factions were giving free revives to those standing up to Relentless. Mail and PMs flooded in, showing support to our brave warriors.
This small act of resistance has opened a door that will be hard to shut. It shows Relentless isn’t as powerful when other factions are working together. It is possible to make Relentless relent. So the next time Unrelenting or Relentless asks to move past you, or they demand an obscene percentage of your racket profits, think twice. Because they might just try and sector you anyway. Unless you stand up to them.
The future of Torn is unknown, but this citizen sees it as a bright place for the free people.
