Read our final update on the latest Dog Tag standings, which includes details of a potentially record-breaking tag score and an intriguing rumour regarding our top ten taggers.
There are just 48 hours left in the 2019 Dog Tags competition, and barring a spectacular collapse it appears we already know who the winner will be. One player has lead the standings in each of the reports we've posted so far, and while our previous update had their rival just 595 tags behind, that gap has now increased to what is a surely unassailable 8,785 points, with our current leader on a recording-breaking points total of 41,961.

Here are the points standings as of 1 pm today.

1st - 41,961 points - 1,237 tags
2nd - 33,176 points - 1,171 tags
3rd - 25,152 points - 1,028 tags
4th - 24,466 points - 832 tags
5th - 21,186 points - 1,422 tags
6th - 17,443 points - 1,066 tags
7th - 13,988 points - 628 tags
8th - 13,220 points - 727 tags
9th - 12,532 points - 588 tags
10th - 11,673 points - 794 tags

Remarkably, our top ten players have not changed positions at all since our last report, as each and every one of them has collected enough points to remain in the same ranking. Our third-placed player has closed the gap on second slightly by around 1,000 points, but it looks like the only battle of note will be for the final podium position, with third and fourth still separated by the same 700 or so points as they were earlier this week.

As I've already said, our current leader's total would be a Dog Tags record if they can hold on to it, with the previous highest score being the 36,440 achieved last year by Hildegarde. It doesn't look likely that the highest tag total record will be broken though, as Kniv's ridiculous tally of 1,773 in 2017 is way ahead of the current highest total of 1,422 held by our fifth-placed player.

Here is our top ten again, this time displaying their max tags and current tags totals.

1st - 1,256 max - 1,237 current
2nd - 1,184 max - 1,171 current
3rd - 1,034 max - 1,028 current
4th - 869 max - 832 current
5th - 1,424 max - 1,422 current
6th - 1,073 max - 1,066 current
7th - 662 max - 628 current
8th - 756 max - 727 current
9th - 603 max - 588 current
10th - 820 max - 794 current

As you can see, the top spots haven't really been decided by how many tags the best taggers have lost so far, more so the sheer volume of tags and high-value tags they have collected. However, all of that will change during the final few hours of the tournament, as this is when the top taggers try to take tags off each other with the help of their friends and factionmates.

To prevent this, our best taggers often fly abroad to avoid the attention of the masses, but one wonders whether some of our smarter participants may strike early this year. I have it on good authority that most of the top ten players know who their rivals are, and have done for some time. Stats have been scrutinised. BCT sales have been tracked. Preparations have been made. But will those in possession of a decent tag haul choose to stick with what they've got and fly out early, or twist and hope to leap up a place or two?

We'll find out when the final tags tallies are revealed at noon on Monday. For now, here's one final dollop of stats for you to gorge yourselves on. The total number of Dog Tags participants has moved up from 32,432 to 35,185 in the past five days. Furthermore, the amount of tags stolen has moved from 409,167 to 481,818, and there have been 6,399 tags returned so far, compared to 4,148 on Monday.

Duke will be returning his own collection of tags for the final time later this evening, so if you're one of his debtors and you wish to make a last-ditch effort to gain a few competition tokens, keep a look out for your tag, as it'll be winging its way to you shortly!
