How can you make friends in Torn? Is it okay for your director to charge for trains? And what should you do if your mugging profits have been nerfed? Read on to find out what Aunty Torn thinks!
Aunty hasn't been out of the house much lately, because the whole city has suddenly started to stink of trash! It's as if everyone has been rolling around in the dump or something. Is this one of those new crazes Aunty keeps hearing about? Like Pokemon? Or waterboarding?

Anywho, Aunty has popped on her glasses and popped in her pills and is ready to dispense advice to you, the troubled citizens of Torn. So let's begin with a question from a young player who just wants to make a few pals.

Hi Aunty Torn,

Is there any way I can get more involved with the Torn community beyond my faction? I had a lot of fun engaging with others in Elim 2019 and I was wondering if there was any way I could make new friends without taking part in one of those big competitions.

Hi Sidewhinder

It’s really great that you made connections during elimination; that’s one of the main purposes of that competition. I would encourage you to branch out, offer to guest for factions, post good content in the forums and in chats, take part in competitions and build friendships with people who have common interests.

It also pays to be decent in Torn. Something simple like a positive forum response, a piece of useful advice or a thank you goes a long way. It's much easier for friendships to form based on shared goals and conversations than by climbing into their room at night and whispering "Let's be friends". That never worked for Aunty.

Best of luck!

Dear Aunty Torn,

I recently got a new job at a ten-star company. It's been about a week now and I haven't been trained. I confronted my boss about it and found out she charges for trains. This year I've done a lot of company hopping because I've been running into this problem a lot. It seems like more and more employers are charging for trains and I disagree with that practice. Whenever I find out an employer is charging for trains, I leave.

In my opinion, a good employee is active, has sufficient stats to work their assigned position and rehabs often. I fulfil all these criteria. Companies suffer when they employ bad employees therefore trains are not bonuses but an earned reward for being a good employee. That fact that I often work for cheap or for free despite having decent stats makes me feel more justified in my beliefs.

Admittedly, I'm not completely against selling trains in the case that an employee might want more than their due earned. However, I think it's negligent of an employer to train only a handful of people (paid or not) and not even give the heads up to the other employees or, to even hire employees with stats so low that they would require all the trains in the first place.

Aunty, are my standards too high for the modern Torn workforce? What more can I do to make myself a more appealing employee and get free trains and the benefits I want?

Sincerely,
Unhirable.

Hi,

This question is fairly subjective because some companies are not very profitable. Directors in some industries feel as though they have to charge for trains to make profit - that may change when alterations are made to certain companies in future, though. In the meantime, you could message the employees of a company to find out their training policy before signing up to your next job, if you're discrete.

You may also want to avoid companies where there are too many high stat employees who really care about their working stat HOF ranking. They will always hope to improve their stats, which places a demand on the directors' time. Aunty had employees like that in the past and it was stressful trying to get them trains while being fair to everyone else. Aunty plays no favorites in her company and trains everyone equally. Aunty will even move people positions occasionally to help them work towards the 100k working stats merits. Keep searching till you find the right fit for you.

Best of luck!

Dear Aunty,

I thought that this new mugging system would be more profitable when mugging inactives. But in reality, I am getting about half the cash I would get with the old system. Now I'm looking for a new way to optimize this new mugging system. Is there an easier way for robbing millions of dollars off of some fool's pockets other than buy mugging?

Anon

Hi,

Mugging at the lower end has been nerfed a bit but time, dedication, and luck can get some really nice mugs at higher $ amounts. Day to day general mugging of inactives in high paying jobs is one way, but buy mugging, market stalking and casino stakeouts are also good options. You can still make good profit without making tons of enemies! Just takes more patience, research, and luck.

Good luck

AcidCypher

How do I force Hemi to like me?

Dear AcidCypher,

Hemi doesn’t like boys, Hemi likes cars and money (Good Charlotte, 2003). Try not being a creep :)

Good Luck,

Dear Aunty,

I am getting a bit fed up of my faction leader thinking she owns us. She's constantly on our backs to make hits in chains twice monthly every month and if we don't make the required hits she strips us of our armory and drug usage. Do you think I should just leave the faction and start a new beginning in a place which is more lenient with chaining?

I would much rather just train my stats and become bigger and better. I have decent stats right now but I know there are some factions that have +15% and higher gains in the gym per stat. My faction has significantly less gain per stat but I've been here so long. What do I do? Up ship and run or wait it out with these guys and hope things get better for us?

Hi,

It’s important to find a faction that fits your play style and ambitions. If the requirements are too much for your enjoyment, find somewhere else, especially if you want a more passive stat oriented playstyle. But my advice would be for you to look at this from her perspective.

Your leader is trying to build something special. Activity in chains and such is important for faction growth overall (as well as respect for specials which help get you more stats when training). Someone had to build that faction and just leaching without wanting to participate is pretty selfish in Aunty's opinion. Pay your dues sonny, gotta work for your family!

That's your lot for this month and for 2019! Aunty will be back in 2020 in an all-in-one silver jumpsuit.
