Christmas is about one thing and one thing alone; stuffing your face full of cheese, chocolate and cheap booze in the company of those you love or tolerate. Maybe there's something about a Middle-Eastern kid and a fat lad in a red jumpsuit too, I don't know. I haven't done the research. The point is, Christmas is a time for coming together, and in Torn, you can do that even if you're spending Christmas on your own this year.

Because in Torn City you're never alone - that's not always a good thing, but it is undoubtedly true. If you are spending the holidays by yourself, either because your family is far away, you hate them, or they've gone on vacation and accidentally left you behind Home Alone style, we hope you'll reach out to your fellow Torn citizens to wish them a Merry Christmas and raise a glass of Christmas spirit together.

And once you've done that, take a peek on the City Map and find yourself a Christmas Cracker to pull with someone else! After 10,000 are given out by Duke on the 24th, limited numbers of Crackers will spawn down at the Community Center park over the course of Christmas Day.

Pictured: The spawn location, which was its grotesque nickname even before we started making items appear there.

It's strange how silly little things like an invitation from a stranger to pull an imaginary cracker can help to raise a smile, so that's why we've created this unique Christmas item. Don't be afraid of using it with random people, as the chance of winning or losing is precisely 50/50. And if you do defeat your opponent, why not show them there are no hard feelings and send them a paper hat!

Stoned's Christmas Kindness drive has already inspired many of you to reach out to your fellow Torn players over the festive season, with good deeds often sorely needed at this time of year. We hope this trend of positivity and generosity will continue throughout Christmas and into 2020. And if you are finding it tough at the moment, Stoned has some words of advice for you.

"I noticed that many here were feeling sorry for themselves this holiday season, myself included... and the only cure for that is stepping outside of ourselves, and our own burdens, and just spreading love to others. Because the more you give, the more you truly do learn to be thankful for your own blessings."

"The response so far has been incredible, so much so that I believe this will be our newest holiday tradition!"

Stoned gave me several examples of players who are going through turbulent times right now, many of whom have responded to adversity by trying to bring happiness to others instead. If you are spending time on Torn over Christmas, either because you want some company or you need to get away from your Uncle after an alcohol-fuelled fistfight over the last Vol-au-vent, then your extended Torn family is here for you, whether you want to share a little joy or engage in some virtual mischief.

But approaching a stranger can be awkward, even if you're doing it online. I should know. I'm always hitting on eBay sellers, as I have an unquenchable lust for online commerce. However, if you're uneasy at the thought of saying hello to a randomer online, here are a few interaction ideas I pulled out of my ass just now!

1.) Team up with a random online person and take down an NPC
2.) Start a Torn Christmas Dinner thread in GD and offer gifts!
3.) Play the daily lottery or bookies, and share your winnings with a stranger
4.) Send a Present to everyone you meet in Christmas Town
5.) Pull a Christmas Cracker with the good jerks of Global
6.) Use Poison Mistletoe on your crush / worst enemy / father
7.) Tell Jesus [2013634] and Santa_Claus [1715703] to make your Xmas dreams come true
8.) Take a shot at one of the Community Events
9.) Sign up with a random faction and take a territory while people are offline
10.) Send Duke a secret amount of cash for a parcel, and tell everyone when you discover the right number

That last one references Duke's parcel giveaway, which takes place over Christmas Day and Boxing Day - DON'T SEND HIM MONEY BEFORE THE 25TH BECAUSE IT WON'T WORK YOU ABSOLUTE MAD-LADS. All you have to do is send Duke a special amount of cash ON THE 25TH OR 26TH and you will receive a parcel within a few minutes. You can do this every six hours for a maximum of four times a day or eight times over the duration of this event. Here's your clue as to how much you have to send him:

Merry Bloody Christmas everyone, from all of us at Torn (except Scrooge, obvs).
