Find out which items recently rose to 150% of their value, which items are set to drop massively in price, and what you can expect from Duke's giveaway later this month.
November was a busy month in Torn City, with the Dog Tags Competition, our 15-year-anniversary and World Diabetes Day all taking place at once. And the coming month should prove to be just as frenzied, with Slash Wednesday, Christmas Town and Duke's annual giveaway all set to impact the item market prices over the course of December.
To analyse the past month and predict what will happen over the next few weeks, here is November's market report as brought to you by KingShmexy.
THE DOG TAGS EFFECT
This year's Dog Tags competition was the most popular edition so far, and this unsurprisingly had an effect on the item market prices for a number of crucial items. Those who strive to win the competition often spend big money on boosters to gain a slight edge against there opponents. As a result, FHCs went up by $170k between the 4-6th of November, before plummeting back down to $13.1m on the 7th.
For the rest of the month, they have hovered just under the $13 million mark - around $1.8-1.9 million down from the same time last year - as it appears that everyone who needed FHCs had already stocked up before the competition began. Indeed, some players may have a surplus of these items ready to sell, and with their price at their lowest point for two years, this would be an ideal time to stock up on Feathery Hotel Coupons if you can.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Another item which has lost value this month is Taurine Elite, which dropped $400k throughout November, having begun the month on a healthy price of $3.95 million. The same has also happened with the Can of X-Mass, which has dropped $400k. The value of Red Cows, Rockstar and Munster have also dropped by $12k, $30k and $50k respectively during November.

Pictured: X-Mass value graph
This has happened for the same reason that FHCs have lost value, i.e. their prices rose ahead of Dog Tags, and fell when everyone had enough stock for the competition. Bizarrely, Santa Shooters have actually gained value this month, as having begun at $1.2 million, they now sit closer to $1.3 million. Similar trends have been seen in the new, low-energy cans, with Goose Juice, Crocozade and Damp Valley gaining $30k, $100k and $120k respectively.

Pictured: Crocozade value graph
What will be interesting is how Christmas Town will affect the price of the new cans when it opens to the public in a couple of weeks time. Only the original six cans are definitely going to be given out during CT, and every year this causes their price to deflate heavily - Taurine Elite lost $300k between the middle and the end of December 2018.
However, there has been no word so far on how the three new cans will be generated on a regular basis. Thus far, their circulation has been limited to the initial giveaway event, the can slogan competition and the Trick or Treat event. It is still possible that the three new cans could be given out during Christmas Town, though, and Iribuya's investigations seem to indicate that they will.
"I'm 100% sure they give the new cans. You can walk in test maps and pick them up massively. Also, see these chest results from testing." - Iribuya

FULL TEST RESULTS
The free provision of each of the new cans will definitely reduce the price of all energy drinks over the Christmas period, but the question is by how much. This is hard to determine, as there are other factors at play besides an increase in circulation. For example, ABCDEFGHIJKLM suggests that the value of any one can is determined by the value of the others because they work to balance each other out until a fair price is offered.
Furthermore, Unique believes that we may see a higher than usual increase in can circulations due to the number of different Christmas Town maps people are going to create. The original map will still be playable and provide rewards, but player maps may bring additional cans onto the market if spawn rates are restricted to single maps, instead of being implemented across all maps. Either way, Unique suggests you should sell your can stocks now before CT arrives.
And finally, Iribuya raises the interesting possibility that a drop won't happen at all, if certain circumstances occur. But he appears to suggest this is unlikely and predicts a higher drop than usual in the price of cans post Christmas.
"Many people have saved money to buy cheap cans for CT, but if too many people do this, a drop won't happen. It's always an interesting supply and demand picture. This year I expect a bigger drop in price than usual since rackets are leveling up and player maps will make it theoretically easier to 'farm' items. Prediction: All prices will drop 20% or more." - iribuya
XANAX UNSTABLE
The value of Xanax has been fluctuating recently, with a $2k dip early in the month followed by a gradual $6k rise which only dropped off a few days ago. There was a more significant rise at the beginning of the month, though, where a solid $6k was added between the 29th of October and the 2nd of November.
Experienced Trader ABCDEFGHIJKLM believes this particular increase was caused by the new mugging changes, which went active on the 29th of October, thus correlating with the rise in the price of Xanax. Players sometimes invest in Xanax as a way of storing cash, so this certainly explains part of its price rise. Xanax does often become more expensive just before Dog Tags every year, however, so at least some of its recent gains must be attributed to this.
We see no reason to believe that Xanax will continue to rise as it has done, but it remains a useful item in which to store your cash. Here's ORAN's take on why this drug has retained its value of late.
"Most probably the boost from dog tag event and mugging changes all at once, and then some traders raised their xanax prices so people started either setting that as floor or changing theirs to 840k." - ORAN

Pictured: Price graph for Xanax
Fellow trader iribuya believes that the recent changes aren't particularly interesting, since Xanax is popular and always rises or falls by around 1%. However, he believes that if Christmas Town is popular, fewer people will fly for Xanax, thus raising its price by an abnormal amount.
"They [xanax flyers] will instead 'farm' Christmas Town for better profits / hour. This year player maps will be included and it will have interesting maps. Prediction: Prices of Xanax will peak around 860k and then drop back in January." - iribuya
EROTIC DVDs
Erotic DVDs have slowly been increasing in price throughout the month, from $3.4 million on the 31st of October to $3.7 million on the 30th of November. One explanation for this is the consistent increase of new players coming to Torn, many of whom use E-DVDs to employ the happy jump method and gain stats quickly.
Torn has gained other 19,000 players in the last month, and while not all of them will stay or be active, some may be dedicated enough to use E-DVDs. Perhaps a more accurate indication of our rising population is the User Activity graph, which indicates that an extra 1,200 players are logging on per day today than they were at the beginning of November. There are also 8,010 users per hour in December compared to 7,246 last month.

Pictured: E-DVD price graph
Other players with sub-250k battle stats may also be using Erotic DVDs to train, thus increasing their price further due to demand. But then again, it could be that these items are simply recovering from the devastating fall they had towards the end of October. This time last year, E-DVDs were worth roughly a million more than they are today. Aside from a brief spurt in late December, they then began to fall continuously in value, although they remained comfortably above $4 million for the first part of the year.
Then, towards the end of Elimination, E-DVDs plummetted to their lowest point in almost a year. This price appeared to be unnaturally low at the time, and given its recovery in the weeks since, we expect E-DVDs to avoid any further falls for the foreseeable future, and could actually gain in the coming weeks.
"Every year the price of this item goes up halfway Christmas Town since new players find many free items and can sell this to afford premium training. This years price-hike before CT could mean traders are already buying up DVD's or a new influx of new players will cause a double booming spike in DVD's halfway CT. Prediction: DVD prices will increase to 4.5m for a short while." - iribuya
GIFT CARDS
What do you get someone for Christmas who you don't really like? A gift card, of course. In Torn, Gift Cards reduce the duration of your bank investment by six hours, and it appears many people are keen to make use of this reduction right now, and we're not quite sure why.

Pictured: Gift Card price graph
Gift Cards have increased in price by $1 million over the past month, rising from $2.9m on Nov 2nd to $3.9m today. This price value correlates with a consistent downturn in their circulation graph, which is something we haven't seen for a couple of years.
From the beginning of 2016 until well into 2017, the number of Gift Cards in Torn stayed relatively stable at roughly 4,300. Then they began to rise in March 2017, and have continued to do so ever since, reaching around 10,270 on November 24th. But then their numbers started to plateau, and actually fell for a short while down to 10,240. This may not seem significant, but over a typical week, you would expect Gift Cards to increase their circulation by around 100, not drop by 40. Is this a one-off trend? Or will Gift Cards continue to rise in value?
LAWYER'S BUSINESS CARDS
The Lawyer’s Business Card has had an interesting month, to say the least, as while they typically sell for around $500k, they rose to a high of $832k mid-November - their highest since April 2018. LBC's then dropped to a four-month low of $480k on November 29th, before rising back up to a healthy $580k.

This rise correlates with a rise in jailings which was seen shortly after the LBC's were published. According to the City Hall Jail graph, approximately 2,000 more jailings took place between the 14th and 16th of November, and given that LBC's were purchased over a week prior, it appears these jailings were no coincidence.

Pictured: Jailings graph for the previous month
SWEET RELEASE
Diabetes Day took place between the 13th and the 15th of November, with all candy effects tripled during this period. There was a small rise in the price of some small candy items ahead of this bonus boost, with more significant rises being seen in mid-range items instead.
Bags of Reindeer Droppings and Chocolate Truffles rose by about $20k in the days before Diabetes Day, with Candy Kisses, Tootsie Rolls and Bloody Eyeballs all jumping by under $10k each too. But the biggest changes were to be found at the higher-end of the happiness spectrum.

Pictured: Jawbreaker price graph
Jawbreakers added a whopping $1 million to their typical $500k price in the days surrounding Diabetes Day, with Pixie Sticks increasing by $900k and Sherbet $850k.
"Didn't expect the higher end as well as the eggs to reach that level though. I was honestly surprised and got rid of my stock quickly but the fact that they held their 50% of inflated value after event means there were many people behind it." - ORAN
Each of these items has now returned to a more sensible price of around $400k, but they can all expect to incur heavy losses in a couple of weeks time when Christmas Town sees the release of numerous candy items into circulation.
Last year, Jawbreakers lost roughly $140k over the course of December, with Pixie Sticks dropping $60k and Sherbet losing $40k - although the latter did see a bizarre rise just after Christmas which we're at a loss to explain. Every single candy item can be expected to lose value over Christmas, with the possible exception of the brand new Birthday Cupcake, which will gradually become more expensive as more and more of this one-off item are consumed.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
It was Torn's 15th birthday last month, and to celebrate, players who were active on the day received an Anniversary Present item, which has been labelled as a Supply Pack. These unopened items are currently going for about $17 million at the moment, as each one contains one Dong collectable, one Birthday Badge, one Party Hat, one Strippogram voucher and a random piece of clothing from the new collection.

Pictured: Anniversary Present price graph
These unopened Anniversary Present items are incredibly overpriced at the moment when you consider the value of the items inside them. Strippogram vouchers are a happy boosting item which can be used to give happiness to another player, and these are currently being sold for about $6.6 million. The wearable Party Hats and Badges retail for between $160-180k apiece, whereas the collectable Dongs range from $780k for Thomas through to $960k for Holly.
The only other item you are certain to receive is a Birthday Cupcake, which goes for just under $1 million at the time of writing. This results in a total of about $9 million at most, with the rest of the value presumably being generated by the chance of receiving one of the new clothing items. But these aren't especially expensive either, with Raincoats topping the list at just short of $5 million.
This means that some sellers are trying to charge you $17 million for a collection of items you could buy individually for $14 million at most, with the added bonus of being able to pick the Dong and clothing you specifically want. We predict that the price of these Anniversary Presents will drop quite soon, but their individual contents will increase as their item market circulations fall.
Iribuya believes that the unique clothing items will behave differently, however.
"They will drop in price slower and slower. Then there will be a moment of stability and we'll see a collector swooping in buying a big part of them and increasing the base price. Seems a bit weird, but all the 'Hot Girl' items have a higher value than a casual hat or jacket. Probably because some guys think the rare females of Torn like getting these items gifted. Prediction: prices will drop a bit and then slowly go up. Unless Chedburn decides to give these clothes every year" - iribuya
SLASH WEDNESDAY
Slash Wednesday takes place from the 10th to the 12th of December and sees all hospital times reduced by 75%, regardless of the cause of your injury. This event will likely see some traders shut up shop for a few days, given that the Small Explosive Devices they use to self-hospitalise and protect their earnings will only be 25% as effective as usual.
We feel it is unlikely that this event will have any major impact upon the price of most items, however, as in 2018, Slash Wednesday didn't seem to have any particular use for the majority of citizens. Of course, that could change, if the authorities decide to tweak this event at all.
"Last year was the first time and people could not prepare for it. This year I expect to see some more farm-wars with fake walls. This could drive up med prices and temporarily increase cans/fhc a tiny bit. Nothing spectacular unless it comes with a temporary mug boost?" - iribuya
DUKE'S GIVEAWAY
Duke's Christmas giveaway takes place from the 14th to the 25th of December and traditionally sees a mixture of expensive and brand new items given away by Duke via the forums at the City Dump.
Last year, a new alcohol item was given out in the form of Christmas Spirit, and I can exclusively confirm that this will return for 2019's giveaway too. It has not been decided how many of this item will be provided for the giveaway, but you can expect its price to drop when more are passed into circulation. This is also true of the traditional Poison Mistletoe item, which will also be handed out alongside five other unique items, some of which will be consumable.
In addition, a number of existing boosters and expensive goodies will also be provided by the Duke throughout his twelve days of Christmas giveaway. But since only 100 or so of the high-value items are ever given out, it is unlikely these will have a major impact on their market prices.
"Last year many valuable items were given away that had different rarities and uses. We can state that an item that has a circulation of 20 is worth $2-5b in the eyes of most players. 50 circulation $500m-1b. 250 in circulation around 250m and above that it's hard to tell. The price also depends on how 'cool' an item is perceived. An Epstein-Didn't-Kill-Himself bobblehead would go for a lot more than a pink leafblower. For traders, it's always hard to buy these items, since it can go both ways. LOTS of profit, or BIG losses." - iribuya
