Get tips on winning money and easy merits at Torn's Lucky Shot Casino
In this article, I’m going to give an overview of each game available in Torn’s Lucky Shot Casino, including a summary of the rules, how I recommend to approach playing, and if there are any merits available to be won by doing so. Because while you may be able to turn a profit playing some games, there are others which are best left alone unless you can afford to take the risk.

But before we begin, I want to make an important point regarding Torn and games of chance. Quite simply, if you're looking to guarantee a profit, the Casino is not the place to do it. It may be tempting when you see others winning big to dream of being in their shoes, but 999,999 times out of 1 million, you're the guy paying for that lucky b**tard's private island. Here are some things to remember before you start:

Use what you can lose. You should only bet what you can afford to lose; because chances are you will. Bet for fun, not for profit.

Don't bet cash you've put aside. If you've kept some cash aside for a stat enhancer or some plushies, spend it on a stat enhancer or some plushies.

Don't chase losses.
The odds of future bets are not affected by what happened before. Just because you're on a losing streak, it doesn't mean you're "due".

Look at the statistics. Before you play, take a look at each game’s statistics page. This will help give you an idea of how often people win or lose, and how fair the game is in general.

Remember the gambler's fallacy. This point bears repeating, but if Roulette lands on black 4 times in a row, the odds of landing on red do not change.

There are no dead certs.
Even if the stats show that players win 50% of the time, that does not guarantee you victory in one out of every two bets. That's not how odds work.

Set a win limit. What amount would you be happy with if you won? If you reach this amount, leave immediately - your future self will thank you for it.

Gambling is addictive. If you can't help yourself, message a staff member and ask for a temporary casino ban.

TORN'S CASINO GAMES

SLOTS (merits: 1; recommendation: play for the merit)
This is the most basic game of the casino: place a bet to pull the lever, and you have a chance to win a multiple of your bet or nothing. You have a small chance to win the ever-increasing jackpot, which also awards a merit; and as of a recent update, the larger your bets, the better chance you have of winning the jackpot! That said, the Slots have a fairly low chance of paying out. Spend your daily casino tokens here for a chance at the merit and the jackpot, but be careful with large bets!

ROULETTE (merits: 1; recommendation: play for the merit)
Roulette is a classic game and very nearly fair, if only that pesky “0” didn't exist. Drag one or more tokens onto the board, then click the wheel to bet. If you bet on just red or black you have 48.6% odds of doubling your bet. If you bet on a single number, you’ll win 36 times your bet but you only have a 1/37 chance of this occurring (due to 0 being counted as an ‘extra’ space). You can make many combinations of these and other bets at once, placing chips on various spaces and even grid intersections, so experiment with how different combinations give different payouts! You will earn a merit after making 1,000 spins (win or lose).

HIGH-LOW (merits: 1; recommendation: play for the merit)
High-low is a simple game but can be frustrating. You are shown the dealer’s card and have to guess if your card is higher or lower than it. If you guess right the pot increases, otherwise you lose your bet and have to start over; you can cash-in at any time during the game to take half the pot. The pot can grow very large if you get many guesses in a row correctly, however with the current multiplier at 15%, you have to guess right seven times in a row to break even. There is a merit for winning 25 guesses in a row, but this can be a difficult streak to achieve.

KENO (merits: none; recommendation: play for fun)
Keno is similar to Roulette in that you can choose the amount of numbers to bet on, in turn affecting the way your bet pays out. However, this game plays like a lottery: once you choose which number(s) to bet on, ten numbers are drawn randomly. The numbers you picked which match the ones that are drawn determines how much money you win, and obviously the more the better; but if you bet on more numbers, you need to get more matches. Pick a few lucky numbers and watch them win!

CRAPS (merits: none; recommendation: play for fun)
Whenever you see people in a casino crowded around a table and cheering, it’s probably a Craps table. This is a game where you bet on the roll of two dice, and it can give players many fun hot streaks. The board looks fairly complicated, as it has many different combinations and procedures to betting, but if you learn some it can be enjoyable. I’d recommend looking outside of Torn for help on betting methods because there are lots - I made a comment on one here. Be careful betting high, however, as like all casino games, the odds are against you; but it can be fun watching the dice land on your lucky numbers again and again!

BOOKIE (merits: none, recommendation: play for fun)
The bookie is a place where you can place bets on real-life sporting events, such as football (both American and European), horse racing, etc. The bookie gives you odds of various outcomes of these events, and you can bet for or against them occurring. If you’re right, you win a profit using those odds as a direct multiplier; if you’re wrong you lose your bet. Your real-life knowledge of these events can help tip the odds in your favour: maybe your favourite team always wins home-games against their next opponent, so it’s a good chance they'll win that game too. Note that the odds of an event (and therefore your payout) can be changed after your bet is placed, and payouts can be delayed or cancelled altogether by the hosting service outside of Torn. Because of this, I recommend betting cautiously, at least until the new hosting service is put in place, which should remove the $10m betting cap and provide a smoother experience.

LOTTERY (merits: 1; recommendation: play for the merit)
At the Lucky Shot Casino, there are 3 different lotteries you can buy tickets for, with differing ticket costs, pot sizes, and time between draws. You can also get Lottery Vouchers from the LSC Stock Benefit, or buy them on the item market, which give you 100 tickets to the weekly Lucky Shot Lotto draw when used. You have 1 chance of winning for each ticket you hold at the time of drawing, meaning the more tickets you buy, the better chance you have of winning. You can see how many tickets are sold, which informs you what your odds will be before purchasing some for yourself. Some people choose to purchase a substantial amount of Lottery Vouchers for a reasonable chance of winning the Lucky Shot Lotto, which can be lucrative, but you always stand a big chance of losing. You will be awarded a merit if you win any of the 3 lotteries; but if you’re just after the merit, spend your daily casino tokens on the cheapest lottery for a chance of winning it.

BLACKJACK (merits: 1; recommendation: worth a gamble, but be careful)
In blackjack, your goal is to get your card’s total value closer to 21 than the dealer’s cards, without going over 21. You place an initial bet to have the cards dealt, and then you can either ask for more cards or stand with what you have. When you stand, the dealer does the same and compares: you win double your bet if your total value is greater than the dealer’s and not greater than 21 (or 2.5x for a ‘natural’ 21); if it’s a tie your bet is returned, otherwise you lose. You can also choose to double-down, split, or place an insurance bet; I recommend reading up on these and other strategies outside of Torn. There are also many ‘cheat sheets’ you can find, which recommend what action to take depending on what cards you have and the one the dealer shows; these show what is most likely to result in your win, but it is not guaranteed. I enjoy blackjack because you have some control over the game, and the odds are close to even (around 45% for a win or tie), but this can lull you into a false sense of security and bankrupt you quickly! You can earn the ‘Twenty-One’ merit in blackjack by winning with 4 specific hands/bets (see merit for info).

POKER: (merits: 1; recommendation: worth a gamble, and fun to meet friends)
Poker is a card game where you can play against multiple other people, while you talk to them about how awesome you are at it. It is a game I play often, although that doesn’t mean I’m any good. Poker is the one game that you have the most control over, where skill can (sometimes) triumph over luck, so if you insist on trying to make money in the casino, do it here. I’d recommend reading resources outside of Torn for tricks and tips and watching videos of professionals playing, as it’s a deceptively complex game with an unlimited skill cap. You have to learn how to recognise good hands, but also how to play with bad ones; since you're playing against real people, what cards you have isn't as important as what you do with them. There is also a merit to achieve at 10 million poker score which can be tracked in the poker statistics page, but this will take some time, so only pursue it if you find the game enjoyable.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE (merits: 3; recommendation: worth a gamble, easy merits)
Russian Roulette is another game where you play against other people. The game is played by taking turns pulling the trigger on a gun pointed at your foot; it has only one bullet and six chambers, so the first person to pull has a 1/6 chance of shooting their foot (and losing), the second 2/5, and so-on. You place a bet by joining a game or starting your own, and your opponent puts in the same amount of money. If your opponent shoots themselves, you win the pot (double your bet), and vice-versa. As you win games, you unlock the ability to shoot twice in a row (at 25 games), or three times (at 100 games); however, multi-shots can only make your odds of winning worse, never better. Interestingly, Russian Roulette is one of only two arguably fair games at the casino: you have a 50% chance to double your money, so the odds are not against you. There are three merits to be won here: for winning 50 games, winning $100m in a single game, and beating 10 unique opponents.

SPIN THE WHEEL (merits: 3; recommendation: get the merits, and play daily)
The Wheel is the only game I play daily and is arguably the only other fair game. You place a bet to spin each wheel, and you win the prize that it lands on, along with a quip from the host Leslie. Of course the game is ‘rigged’, in that the big prizes pay out much less often, but Chedburn has stated that overall it pays out slightly in favour of the player. Keep in mind this doesn’t guarantee that you personally will profit off of it, but that Torn’s population as a whole has, which is untrue of most casino games. I’d recommend playing these to satiate your lust for glory as they’re a fun restricted way of gambling without much risk, as you can only spin each wheel once a day. There are three merits to win for landing on the appropriate space on each wheel as well.

Remember, as much as the casino can be fun and at times profitable, it’s designed to take your money, so don’t gamble more than you can afford to lose. If you find gambling harmful to yourself, request Torn staff for a casino ban, and/or get in touch with a gambling addiction treatment service outside of Torn.
