The Outstanding Player Awards

Hopslam [795412]
Who managed to acquire a rare dual weapon? How can you win big without winning the jackpot? And who managed to hit $1bn in just 20 days with help from their brothers... without being fedded!
Lo and behold, we've finally gotten around to reviewing March's Outstanding Achievements, which is an achievement in itself if you think about it, given the state of the world right now. If you want to be considered for April's award you have just two days to post something in the Achievements Forum. But let's be honest, you'll have to pull out all the stops to beat ItsZahid's multiple entries.

Anyway, let's waste no more time and take a look at the community achievements which impressed us the most in March.

A PRIZED POSSESSION

Rare items can be extremely difficult to acquire even if you spam the classifieds and forums with ads. You may even have to message some well-known traders and veterans to track down some of them, and even then you're often relying on hearsay and conjecture.

But in early March, Untouchable achieved the impossible, and finally found someone willing to sell him a set of Dual Bushmasters for $15b. This was nearly half of his networth, but that's a small price to pay to enjoy long walks on the beach and picnics in the park with his newfound love.

These duals were part of five dual primary sub-machine guns that were introduced in Torn many years ago via auction. There are only 13 Dual Bushmasters in circulation, and 53 dual primaries overall, with several sets stuck in purgatory in The_Hamster’s display case. The rest are scattered out there, some of them hidden in the shadows, and others out there for all to see and rent.

With the introduction of the Annihilation honor for dealing 15,000 damage in a single hit, the rental market for these Dual SMG weapons has opened up. For a typical Torn citizen, it is nearly impossible to achieve this honor without dual SMGs, so these special guns can be a great earner for those who are willing to loan them to friends and faction mates.

But even if you manage to get your hands on one, dealing 15,000 damage in a single hit is by no means an easy task. I myself was able to borrow some Dual P90s in March, and it took me at least 30 tries before I secured the honor with a hit of 20,834.

AegisAlex was another player to achieve this in March. He described it as a painstakingly long journey that took him about a week and a half, and he was quite relieved when he landed a hit on Leslie for 15,510 damage. Untouchable also earned this honor shortly after obtaining his $15bn Dual Bushmasters, which he used to blast someone for 16,506 damage.

HONESTLY HONEST

The Bug Swatter is given to players who report serious exploits or bugs which they could have abused for their own gain. In addition, a bug bounty program was recently introduced which offers players real-life cash in return for reporting major bugs.

In March, two honestly honest citizens earned the bug swatter item, with Honest Shane and Honest MikePence reporting serious errors in Big Al's and the Casino respectively. Shane discovered he was able to sell the same item to Big Al multiple times, and this inspired MikePence to discover a vulnerability in the High-low game which provided additional info in the response output, giving players a potential minor advantage.

Both players were given Bug Swatters in return for their honesty, so be careful, because this slashing weapon may be used against you if you face off against Shane or MikePence!

MARCH LUCK

The house may always win, but occasionally, the Casino is known to give a few lucky individuals some rather big payouts in between stomping on our hearts and stealing our hard-earned dollars.

Smokey123 was not feeling especially lucky on the 2nd of March, as he found himself hard at work wishing away the hours until his break arrived. When it did he checked his phone, and to his surprise, he discovered a cheque for $20 billion dollars waiting for him.

Smokey123 bought 1,043 tickets for the weekly Lucky Shots lottery in total, as he was trying to achieve the merit for using 250 token refills. His daily allowance of 75 Casino tokens was used to purchase 75 Lottery Tickets at a cost of $750k. He then refilled his token allowance and bought another 75 tokens, with this process repeated over several days. His lottery win just goes to show that you can receive some unexpected bonuses while striving for certain achievements.

SLOTS OF LUCK

Another Casino game that requires tokens is the Torn Slots. Many citizens only have eyes for the ever-growing jackpot that builds up as more and more people play, with the masses spinning as cheaply as they can in hopes of winning the big one.

I am sure that Paul would not mind triggering the jackpot, but he largely played with the $1m spins throughout March in hopes of winning big. And win big he did in early March, albeit without winning the jackpot, as the Pile Up prize he received for landing three cars paid out x1000. Paul walked away with a $1b payout for just one spin - but once was not enough.

Paul managed to land a Pile Up on March 19 and again on March 25. When asked about his spins, Paul simply said, “I find 10m too risky. $30b would be nice, but I'm not complaining about a free $3b”.

500 AWARD CLUB EXPANDS

This once extremely exclusive club is growing more rapidly. We have now reached 50+ plus people who have achieved 500 total awards. Bullzeye is one esteemed player to reach this landmark in March, doing so via the On Track honor for earning 2,500 racing points.

Next up is Mud, who got the Don’t Drop It honor for busting 10,000 people from jail - the criminals out there thank you for your hard work and dedication. Mud then hit 502 awards shortly afterwards, which prompted him to calculate that he had achieved all of these in 2491 days, or one every 4 days 23 hours 5 minutes 30 seconds. He believes he is the youngest player in the top 50 to achieve this feat. If anyone wants to contend Mud's claim, get in touch!

YOUNG AWARD WINNERS

After the previous HOP article I received numerous messages regarding players who had achieved certain award tallies in a short amount of time, which is encouraging to hear! AleksandrWolf of Wolf Pack is one such player, as he reached 200 awards in 1 year. He acknowledges that his pace is not going to be one for the record books, but he is happy with his progress, especially with his successes in the Torn competitions and the fact he's earned some really tricky honors.

I'm unsure what the standard is for new players achieving 200 awards these days, but please continue to share your tallies via the Achievements forum anyway. Your posts help the community see what others are accomplishing out there, and the Seeker honor for 250 total awards is a huge milestone regardless of how quickly you achieve it. But based on the messages I have received, it looks like we will see more players reaching 250 awards in under 300 days.

ASSET ASSESSMENT

Networth is highly valued among Torn players, not least because of the rank triggers and medals on offer for hitting a certain level. A high networth demonstrates your buying and investment power, marking you out as someone capable of smart investments and shrewd business ventures. And despite the fact that this information is readily available for all to see via your profile and the HoF, some people still like to shout it from the mountain tops when they reach a certain level of networth.

As a new player, Ovee certainly earned the right to shout as loud as she could, as she managed to earn upwards of $1b in just 20 days. Ovee learnt how to bet outside of Torn thanks to her brothers, and she put this skill to good use in the Torn bookie by creating a betting subscription agency. Combined with some personal betting and trading, this agency helped Ovee earn a substantial amount of money in a short amount of time.

ABCDEFGHIJKLM is another who surpassed a monumental networth value, as he hit the $100 bn milestone in March and hasn’t looked back. He gave a shout out to the EWM stock for helping him achieve this, but alphabet boy over here attributes his early growth mostly to trading. Jumping from trading to stocks is a natural progression in this city, and some just do it better than others.

ABCDEFGHIJKLM had just $1 bn in March 2019, but was up to $88 bn by February of this year. Having zoomed past $100 bn, he was already up to around $120 bn by the end of March, and now sits on $129 bn as of April 28th. Despite his wealth, ABCDE... insists he will not be putting $100 bn down for a game of RR.

CRIME TIME

There is no shortage of excitement around crime, as people love to tout their criminal records. It is hard to say whether citizens respect the 10,000 drug deal total or the 60 natural nerve bar the most, but for many, the achievement of one comes at the expense of the other.

For those of us who have had the 60 nnb for some time, we can forget just how long it took us to get there. Some, like ArtfulDodger, achieve it a little quicker than others, as according to a thread from T-Max posting on Dodgy’s behalf, he did so in 609 days. It is highly likely that his nerve gains are largely attributed to his faction's organized crimes, along with his own criminal record which consists of mostly fraud and theft.

Realist [2091491] reached that sweet 60 NNB in March as well, at a little over 800 days - he spoke of many arsons and beers being required to get there.
Blazescorch is another who reached the maximum nerve bar state, having done so in 963 days. It took him 210 days to get from 55 to 60 nerve, and I am not sure many will be able to do it much quicker than that.

Blazescorch managed to avoid being jailed from crime during that time, as his offences mostly consisted of stealing parked cars and warehouse arsons. He said he wasn’t trying for a record time, but we all know that avoiding the attention of the police is a must if you are looking to
do so.

Energy from JUX HQ hit his 60 nerve bar with just over 10,000 total crimes, which is an unusually low number of total crimes for this achievement. He focused mostly on kidnapping the major with some warehouse arsons thrown in for good measure.

Tilted was able to get 60 nerve in over 2,600 days of existence, and she also achieved it with a relatively low crime count of under 20,000 total offences. From the looks of her record, she combined warehouse burning with mayoral kidnappings to do so -
a winning combination indeed.

One of my favorite crime achievements from March was FlyingPotato, who attracted the envy of many by hitting the 10,000 drug deal total earlier on in his criminal career. Having gotten this out of the way, he immediately ventured on to other crimes to strive for that 60 natural nerve bar. This was achieved after he surpassed 10,000 fraud crimes, over 2,000 murders, and around 400 kidnapped mayors. He now hopes to increase his crime experience further to allow him to join a PA team.

TOP OF THE COP SHOP

Even though we're discussing another crime achievement, we felt that this next story deserved its own section. There are few achievements that top the accomplishment of all the crime merits, honors and medals, and so we have to thank Rekker for sharing this screenshot of his outstanding criminal record.

Rekker’s main goal was to get all of the crime awards prior to the release of Crimes 2.0 - it's fair to say he had more than enough time. Ohadik passed on his congratulations and informed Rekker that there are not many to have done this. KPCSlor is one of them, and he welcomed Rekker to the club by sharing the sentiment of building crime experience back up.

Rekker finished the necessary drug deals for his second to last medal near the end of his crime spree, and he has now his sights set on improving his crime experience so he can join a PA team.

MARCH'S HOP

Having been here for 12 years, I grew up in a Torn environment that was completely different to the Torn of today. New players starting in 2020 Torn can destroy the stat ratios and progress records of those who were here in the early days, and one stat ratio that I can barely relate to is the Xanax per day ratio. It took me two years to take my 50th Xanax and receive the Free Energy honor bar for it. Nowadays, active players with sufficient income will often pop three xans per day, and if all goes to plan, that means you can nab Free Energy within 16 to 17 days.

But keeping up with three Xanax per day is virtually impossible, given that overdoses, hospitalizations, forgetfulness and real-life distractions are certain to arrive at some point. Those who manage to stay the course are often restarts, or at the very least friends of someone experienced who can give them the guidance they need.
Nonetheless, anyone who is able to maintain a high Xanax per day ratio over a long period is well-deserving of outstanding status.

In 2017, a player named Hera created a thread about Xanax Consistency, when the norm was about 2-2.25 Xanax per day for the heaviest users. Data looks to have been the most elite Xanax user back then with an average of 2.87 Xans per day - this was and remains an outstanding achievement of consistency, dedication, and addiction.

However, in March 2020, Gloin made a post about his Xanax ratio, which astonishingly came out at exactly three per day. At age 410 days, he had taken 1,230 Xanax, so the math adds up! Now, of course, Gloin hasn't maintained his habit for as long as some, but a year of such consistency is most definitely an outstanding achievement.

Gloin had to deal with all the usual obstacles as well as some overdoses and the Love Juice event, while also taking other drugs which would normally hinder such a high Xanax ratio. On some days, he must have popped four Xanax in one day to be able to maintain his record, and this is a habit he has clearly continued, as Gloin's tally of 1,386 Xanax in 458 days puts him at 3.02 per day as of April 28th, 2020.

There is no doubt that players today have it easier than we did in this respect, given the plethora of advice on offer from old players and guides, as well as the number of mentors and benefactors who are willing to help new players break these old records. But the sheer will required to maintain a 3+ ratio over 12 months means Gloin is a worthy winner of March's HOP award.

Congratulations to Gloin! You win four Donator Packs. We will watch with interest to see how long you can keep this up for!

APRIL'S HOP

Are you a Xanax user? How much have you taken per day, on average, over your Torn lifetime? How about over the past year? If you think you're on course to beat Gloin, or you think you can best any of the other achievements mention in this article, then please make sure to post your story in the Achievement forums today! Anything posted up to the 30th of April will be considered for our next column, whereas entries posted afterwards will qualify for May's HOP award.
