Break-in forces Chronicle Archives to open early. Secrets of Torn City revealed for first time. Blackmailer Jimmy "Two-Shins" wanted, remains at large. Suspect seen carrying a "serrated blade".
The secret history of Torn City is to be revealed publicly for the first time today after the Chronicle Archive was forced into opening up its extensive collection of city records. This release was moved forward ahead of schedule after a break-in at the Chronicle Archive last night, with local extortionist Jimmy “Two-Shins” reported to have tried and failed to blackmail the authorities into paying him to suppress the records.
Torn’s history is shrouded in mystery, with its origins and that of its cultures and customs unknown even to those who live here. A set of City Chronicles was written back in the early 2000s by an unknown group of writers, but their account was later proven fraudulent, with much of Torn’s supposed lore found to have been lifted from episodes of The Wire and Miami Vice.

Our new City Chronicles have been verified by Torn’s ever-present administrator Chedburn and were compiled by another unknown group of historians who were recruited from the Sports Science Lab - these people being the only souls in the city whose minds were not ruined by narcotics. Five Chronicles will be released, to begin with, with Torn’s origin, location and backstory explored in the opening document The Birth of Torn.
Torn’s unique Faction scene comes under the microscope in the second Chronicle, Mob Rule, with the remaining Chronicles covering topics as diverse as the economy, real estate and the history of work in the City. Additional Chronicles are expected to be delivered in the near future, but in the meantime, these documents should answer a number of pressing questions, such as “Why are there so many private islands?, “Why is toilet roll so expensive?”, and “Why doesn’t Torn appear on any maps?”
Your new City Chronicles can be accessed via the Chronicle Archive building on the City Map, or the Chronicles link on the Newspaper page. These documents were originally scheduled for release in 2034, but the intervention of the aforementioned Jimmy “Two-Shins” has led to their publication fourteen years early.

“Two-Shins” is believed to be a recent visitor to Torn City, although he is known to have connections to local Mafioso Shirley Prima Dante Calabrese, a.k.a. The Duke. The Torn City Police Department have described “Two Shins” as “a callous individual who must not be approached by citizens or members of law enforcement.”
As you might expect, the people of Torn City have failed to heed this warning, and have already begun the hunt for Jimmy “Two-Shins” to see if he’s carrying anything worth stealing. The Torn City Times will update this article as soon as further information is known about this miscreant, but what we do know is he favours the use of a serrated blade when dealing with his opponents.
