Justice League Tournament Ends

LordofFire [2411517]
After two months of intense racing, the first ever Justice League Tournament came to an end, and its champion is... naaah, you'll have to read the article to find out.
Several months ago I received a simple question from Jairyll:

“Lord, do you want to help organize a small tournament with me?”

This "small" tournament turned into the biggest player-organized racing tournament in Torn history. Over the course of two months, more than 400 racers competed in 80 races set across nine different groups, with over $2 billion in prizes distributed among the winning racers. This competition resulted in over 1,000 messages being sent out by the three-race organizers, so please, Mr Chedburn, can we have group mails now?

You can read all about how the championship unfolded via the official Justice League thread here, where you will also notice some outstanding graphics work provided by Indolent. The tournament ended with an exciting championship week full of crashes and unexpected results, from which Data emerged as the first-ever Justice League Champion.

Congratulations Data, and enjoy the honor of being the first. Every other JLT champion will be in your shadow.

So after two months of daily racing, debating tactics in Discord, throwing bras (yes I mean you, Dexy) the champion is known. The reason the JLT proved so popular is that we split drivers up into racing leagues determined by their racing skill. We had 6 leagues in the end, and we even had to split leagues 1 and 2 into several groups due to the huge number of registrations.

Every league raced one day of the week for 8 weeks straight. League 1 and 2 had a race off to determine the top three who qualified for the championship week. During the championship week, everybody raced for 6 consecutive days in 20 lap races to give more advantage to lower RS racers. All of this meant that the drivers were not only active throughout the tournament, they remained competitive too, even amid all those flung bras.

The future of JLT is looking bright. We got so much positive feedback, that we are obligated to organize another edition sometime in the fall with some minor tweaks. Keep an eye on the racing forum or our Discord to know when the next one will be.

"JLT has been the best racing tournament on Torn to date. Representation of the lower classes has been key. The format is close to perfect. Every entrant has something to strive for and the prizes for each league have been awesome. Much kudos to the organizers. It has been seamless for me and an awful lot of fun. I hope the URT people (Sugarvalves) can look at the massive success of this competition and make the URT just as much fun." - ToxicMonkeyMZC

"The Winter URT started one day after I had enough points to fully upgrade my first Class A car. It was a dirt Audi. I got blown off every track multiple times a day. I was hooked. Hooked on the racing. There was no competition—I was fodder. The JLT divides its racers into groups by Racing Skill. There was competition. There was tension. Every race mattered. I found myself running test races during the week, comparing cars (I now have four). I finished in at 11th place or so in my division, but at no point did I feel outclassed. In addition, I found the Discord a great way to build camaraderie among racers. Kudos to the organizers, and I have already penciled the next one into my calendar. I don’t expect to win, but I do expect to enjoy the racing." - Dromedan, League 1 racer.

I'd like to personally say a big thank you to all our racers and of course all of our donators who made it possible to send out that many prizes. If you want to keep up with all the latest racing discussion you can join our Discord, which will shortly be rebranded to a Torn racing Discord. And finally, to round things off, here is a message from the founder of the JLT, Jairyll.

"I'm so delighted about the development of the tourney (which could not have been done without my lovely friends LordofFire and Indolent). My actual intention was to bring the joy of racing, which found me once, to more people in Torn. Show them that it can be a lot more then a little boring distraction, when you would just start dipping into it - and I'm so happy with the result and this wonderful, growing racing community! Some fly, we race <3" - Jairyll

TL;DR: JLT is finished, Data: 1st, Hammer: 2nd, Bronx: 3rd. Next JLT comes in the fall.
