Oh Look, It's World Population Day

If you've got some spare time this weekend, have you considered getting yourself tooled up, entering beast mode, and going out to slaughter your fellow Torn citizens?
This weekend the City of Torn celebrates World Population Day, an awareness day which, in the wider world, aims to draw attention to the issues caused by global overpopulation. While most people understand that our unsustainable lifestyles are to blame for our current problems, others have decided it's easier to force people to stop procreating than it is to get them to place their recycling in the right coloured bin.

Unfortunately for those who see Children of Men as a utopian fantasy film, human beings are notoriously fond of plowing each other into next Tuesday, with the pleasures of the flesh known to cure many different ailments, including boredom, gamer rage, Shatner's wandering thyroid, and horse misery. However, if one is not careful, this most joyous of acts can sadly result in a serious case of CTRL+V, a vicious disease which inflicts upon its bearer the most terrible of symptoms: Children.

An abundance of new humans can cause weekend plans and sofas to be ruined, hence why nations across the globe have decided to use World Population Day to highlight the risks of bumping bare uglies too often like a total Chad. But in Torn City, we have no children, so World Population Day takes on a different meaning entirely. Here it is used to help our people practice the noble art of slaughter.

Torn's population of active citizens has more than doubled since 2016, with over 6,000 of these Daily Slayers having been added since this time last year. As the rest of the world crumbles into chaos, our fair City has proven an unlikely safe haven for those seeking refuge from the likes of coronavirus, constant protests, and excessively long recipe intros - something which is evidenced by these upwardly inflecting coloured lines.

Torn City is well on its way to hitting population levels on a par with those enjoyed during its zenith over a decade ago. But of course, these fresh-faced newcomers must be schooled in the traditions of our culture if they are to remain, hence why all citizens are encouraged to beat the ever-loving crap out of each other from noon on Friday the 10th.

For a period of 48 hours concluding at noon on Sunday the 12th, Tornfolk are under strict instruction to attack as many people as possible, as doing so will reward you with twice as much XP as usual. In 2018, this bonus was applied in triple, and only those who left corpses to rot in the streets were able to earn it. However, in 2019, the bonus was reduced to a mere doubling of XP, although the attacking requirements were broadened to include hospitalisations and muggings too.

Increased XP helps you rise through the levels quickly, so if you're a new player, perhaps this is the weekend you finally unlock Level 15 and the ability to travel. Alternatively, it could be that you're an experienced Level 99 player and you'd dearly like to hit the 100 mark before the month is out. Or maybe you're one of those weird level holders Josephine loves to write about, and you simply want to boost your secret level while disguising yourself as a Level 12 weakling.

Whatever your reasons for taking part, World Population Day offers you the chance to gain valuable XP more quickly than you could on any other day, making this weekend the perfect time for a faction chain, the use of a Book, or an old-fashioned one-man killing spree.

tl;dr: Double XP applied to all attacks from noon 10th to noon 12th.
