Bonus nerve event moved to 8th-10th August due to scheduled downtime. Beer items set to provide 5x usual nerve. Prices rise in anticipation of mass drunkeness.
Torn's annual celebration of International Beer Day has been pushed back by 24 hours, and will now begin at noon TCT on the 8th of August, ending 48 hours later at noon on the 10th. Beer Day traditionally takes place on the first Friday in August, but this year the event clashes with a period of scheduled downtime, hence the delay in our city's epic quest to eradicate sobriety.

The International Beer Day event provides a 5x boost to the nerve gained from drinking beer. This boost does not apply to any alcohol items other than beer, only the Bottle of Beer item and the Glass of Beer item produced by the Beer Keg are affected by this bonus. That doesn't mean that you can't drink Tequila or Saké, but that you should save them for the end of your bender as a light digestif.
Most citizens use the nerve boost provided by Beer Day to commit crimes or bust people out of jail, but this year, it is expected that many will drink simply to forget the events of the past six months. Over 100,000 beers were sunk during 2019's event, and given everything that's happened of late, we expect 2020's Beer Day to consume more livers than Hannibal Lecter at an all you can eat organ bar - I'm almost certain they exist.
Bottles of Beer have increased in value by roughly $500 per unit in the past month, having already gained $300 since the beginning of the year to bring them to a current price of $1,500 apiece. These items typically provide one nerve each, whereas a Glass of Beer poured from a Keg of Beer provides 2 nerve. You can get roughly 80 servings from a Keg, and you can purchase them for around $11.2 million at the time of writing, with these items having also risen in price by $2.5 million during July.
Based on these figures, the estimated 160 nerve gained from a single keg works out at around $70,000 per nerve point gained. This price obviously compares poorly to the $1,500 per nerve point from beer, but by purchasing a Keg you are paying for the ability to enjoy a lower cooldown, with both a one nerve Bottle of Beer and a two nerve Glass of Beer both increasing your cooldown by one hour each.
