How do you get the Stock Analyst merit? What happened during the blackout of 2007? And when should you delete your faction? Aunty Torn answers all of these and more in her latest advice column.
Listen up boys and girls, because Aunty Torn is back with some more advice for you silly young things on matters of the heart, the flesh, and the wallet. And she's even gone back through her old diary to find out what happened thirteen years ago when Torn experienced a mysterious blackout! Read on to find out, as we hear once more from Dear Aunty Torn.

Dear Aunty Torn,
I recently dove into the world of stock trading. I have all the usual blocks and many piles of stocks just for investment. However, I'm a little frustrated because I see that I haven't achieved the "Stock Analyst" merit and Andyman doesn't have any cool graphs to help me achieve it.
I try to "buy and sell shares actively in the stock market" but alas, I don't have the benjamins like Deft to keep buying every day. How do you use "alas" anyway?
Graphless and broke,
Hawk
Dear Hawk,
Stock Analyst is one of those tricky little tiddlers of an award that Chedburn refuses to elaborate on. No matter how many times Aunty elbows him while cooking dinner, he refuses to spill the beans. But don't fret, because Aunty has read Harley's Stock Analyst Guide and might be able to help.
To get the merit, it looks like you need to buy stocks and then put them up for sale repeatedly every day for a few weeks. Some people think you only need to do it with one stock, and others believe that you need multiple stocks. Either way, it seems that with this merit, activity is more important than money.
Harley's guide says you'll need about $150 million to get the job done, but the thread that follows shows people have done it with much less. Aunty knows that lots of single stock purchases won't cut the mustard though, and Harley's guide suggests that you should split your investment between various stock blocks of between $500k and $50m. He also advises that you should aim for stocks that are on the rise and will sell quickly.
Good luck!
Aunty

Dear Aunty,
I found something maybe not big but interesting. When I was coming back from China one of the travel messages mentioned the '07 blackout. When I did a little research all I could find is one guy mentioning it in the forums. What is it, and what happened during this blackout?
Vertram_Pl
Dear Vertram,
At my age, it's not easy to remember who or what I was doing last Tuesday, let alone what happened way back in 2007. But I've checked my diary and jogged my memory, and if I recall correctly, it seems a terrible event happened in Torn over four days which many newcomers did not survive. As for the rest of us, we all suffered a strange form of memory loss where we forgot everything we'd learnt over the past month - and I was down a few dollars too!
Chedburn was kind enough to compensate us all, and nothing on that scale has happened since. Horrible business it was, and back then we didn't even have Tiger King and TikTok to entertain us during the downtime! To find out how everyone reacted, our Community Manager, who was a strapping young teen at the time, has kindly provided Aunty with a few links to the old forums which you might like to read.

Dear Aunty Torn.
I am a big supporter of helping people out. I won't help out if people are begging, but I do a lot of giveaways in discord. I'm currently in 5 lotto channels on discord, and have given away billions. My question is... How can I still be successful in doing lottos and still be able to buy stocks and grow my networth?
My current networth is due to a loan from 2 friends. I wanna be able to keep my networth growing and still have the pleasure of doing lottos, which keeps the game interesting for me. I don't feel comfortable in the casino (can't afford to lose what I don't have) and I am currently on furlough from my rl job. Help!

Hello Anon,
Aunty is sorry about your struggles in real life, and based on your question, it seems as though you have a big heart to help others. Doing lottos can be fun and interesting, but there is a time where you have to “be selfish” in a sense to grow your account. If you want to be able to help more people in the long run (or rather manage fun events like lottos), you need to focus on sustainability. Incoming funds > outgoing funds, otherwise, you lose out in both and potentially lose your passion for Torn.
Another thing to consider is that you should not be the only one fronting finances for these giveaways and lottos. See if you can get some others to co-sponsor these events - Sugarvalves who runs the newspaper sometimes provides prizes if you ask nicely - or change the buy-in mechanics so that people pay small for a chance to win big. That way, it doesn’t personally cost you to run them. Be fair to yourself, because you are already investing your time, and that’s worth being appreciative of.
Good luck,
Aunty

Dear Aunty Torn,
Our faction only have 8k respect at the moment, every member is a newbie even the faction leader. The problem is the faction still haven't unlocked the chaining perk and we are really getting impatient because the members only hit like couple times a day and there's the money problem too. My question is, should we delete the faction and create a new one and unlock the chaining perk immediately or continue grinding with this faction?
Help us Auntie Torn,
A Duck
Hello A Duck,
Thank you for the question. Aunty has been involved in many factions throughout her many years in the city. I can’t give specific direction but hopefully, I can ask some questions to guide your decision. Does your leadership show the qualities needed to grow your faction? Will starting a new faction and unlocking chaining right away solve your current problems? Can your faction hold a chain? Is respect truly the root issue here?
If you have lost faith in your leader, can you afford to start a new faction? If you believe the respect gained from successful chains will make up for the money and effort you'll spend starting over, it might be the best solution. Sometimes Aunty thinks cutting your losses and starting over is the right move. Unfortunately, some people get too invested in poor situations.
Good luck,
Aunty

Dear Aunty,
I recently got some nice new yoga pants that I think show off my ass nicely, but I'm afraid I'm being too much of a tease. I lure them in with a frontal view but then cover it up with the cardigan. Even my vanity mirror wasn't happy with the tease. What should I do???
BOTZIM
Dear BOTZIM,
Having looked at your outfit, Aunty doesn't think that you're being a tease at all. Aunty has seen much worse strutting down the local mall, including our newspaper's very own editor, who leaves precious little to the imagination! Whether your a man, a woman, or one of these new-fangled inbetweeners Aunty has read about in Reader's Digest, demurity is the order of the day if you want to attract someone of class and taste.
Bear those arms in a nice little halterneck if you like, but if you're popping on a skirt, make sure they're teamed with pantyhose - bare legs are open legs, dearie. Of course, all of that goes out of the window when you're in the bedroom. When Aunty has a gentleman caller over, I wear nothing but a Bush Hat, a dab of Love Juice behind the ears, and a cheeky smile. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll lose the hat.
All the best,
Aunty

That's it for another month, my inquisitive angels! Thank you for sending in your questions to Aunty Torn. As ever, all of the people who sent in the queries you've just read will be given a lovely little Donator Pack as a gift. If you'd like to ask Aunty a question, you can do so by sending her a message titled Aunty Torn via the Tell Your Story feature.
