They say it takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a village to smack a giant with a trout. This is the story of how the community helped Torn's strongest player to take a little fishing trip
As many of you will know, on August 11th the new Honor named [Gone Fishing] was released. The requirements for this honor are simple, as to earn it, you merely need to be defeated by someone who makes the last hit upon you with a trout. For most players, this is easily done with the help of a friend or factionmate, but for those at the very top, the patch notes accompanying this honor indicated you may have some difficulty.
[HONOR] Added 'Gone Fishing' for being defeated by a Trout (scales in difficulty the bigger the fish you are)
Corny puns aside, this note stood true for some of the biggest players in Torn. Our story today is about one such player we all know, and the difficulties he faced in achieving this honor. A player who has the largest Battle Stats of any player for over a decade running. The famous, the lauded, the one which many speak about in hushed tones for fear of his wrath, Mr. BodyBagger. With over 367 trillion in total stats, defeating him with a trout would be no easy task.

In the weeks after the Honor had been released, Justice [1446944] reached out to his old friend BodyBagger and arranged for him to smack deft with a trout to help him get the Honor. Afterwards, Justice asked BodyBagger if he wanted to get the merit as well. BodyBagger was initially reluctant, as he felt it was simply too much effort to achieve. But Justice saw this as a challenge, and immediately set to work to help BodyBagger reel in this seemingly impossible honor.
"The reason I play torn is to help others and make friends. I saw this as a challenge, and in my mind, it was a hard challenge to complete, so I took it and made it a reality." - Justice
The event would require multiple days to plan. Favors had to be called in and schedules aligned. It was clear from the start who would wield the trout; it had to be deft, as he is the second strongest player who remains active. Even so, with deft only having 16% of BodyBagger's stats, the next step was to work out just how many people would be needed to assist him in bringing BodyBagger into striking range.
The decision was made to pull in at least 18 other players to lower BodyBagger’s defenses. Justice spread the word, and over 50 people agreed to help. Perhaps some wanted to see the giant taken down, or maybe they wanted to help BodyBagger get an Honor most of us have so easily achieved. Either way, more than enough people pledged themselves to the cause - myself included - and so with everything in place, Justice proposed the plan to BodyBagger and deft, and both agreed that it could work.
"It was an Honor that I did not think I would get any time soon. I brushed it off as something I would work on later. Justice took care of all the coordination required to make it happen, which made it extremely easy." - BodyBagger
And so it was that around 3.45 am on the morning of August 23rd, BodyBagger stripped down and equipped nothing but a Rusty Sword with which to defend himself. He then proceeded to deliberately bring himself down to 1HP using empty blood bags, before 28 people took up arms against Torn's strongest player - 27 of whom were there to do one thing, throw a smoke grenade.
Having done their part, BodyBagger now stood surrounded by 19 hissing smoke grenades. It was time for deft to enter the ring. With one mighty swing of a Trout, deft dealt BodyBagger 2,132 damage and the killing blow. The giant fell. With a smile on his face and cheers from those who had come together, Torn's greatest ever player had the merit for being defeated with a fish.

"It was nice seeing people working together to make it happen. I popped into Global and invited people from there to join as well. Everyone seemed to have a good time. I am very thankful to all those who participated. Had I thought things through, I would have asked to be mugged and worked simultaneously on my Church Mouse Honor." - BodyBagger
"I am very thankful to all the people who made this possible for BB and also for me to achieve it in one go. Thanks to the people who stayed up late to join this event and my mates from London for believing in me." - Justice
"He got [me] my merit, so I was just returning the favor." - Deft
After the Trout had been swung and the objective completed, further math indicated it may have been possible to take BodyBagger down with only four extra people in addition to deft. Nevertheless, it was fun to be a part of this story in helping our city's top player grab the latest Honor. And I imagine that Justice is already plotting how he can help deft and BodyBagger get the [Church Mouse] Honor bar.
