Dear Aunty Torn

Find out what Aunty has to say about theft, deception, charity, and more in this month's advice column.
Aunty Torn is back after a short break to answer your questions and queries! Dear old Aunty had the coronavirus vaccine just last week, and because she's so hardcore she snorted it instead of taking it intravenously. Her lungs are now working at full capacity, but her bladder is less reliable. Anyway, let's see what advice she's got for you young whippersnappers this month!

Dear Aunty,

Every once in a while when we chain on our faction, I lie that I have overdosed after being fully stacked with the faction's Xanax and do a Happy Jump instead with that energy! So far they haven't found out but I am afraid of what will happen to me if they find out in the future. I have made so many friends in here!
Is it worth it?

Yours truly,
Anon

Dear Anon,

It is only a matter of time before you are found out. My advice would be to ask yourself what is more important, the friends you have made, or your stats. Stats are important, but they are just numbers. The people you play with make Torn what it is, and if you are outed as a thief then you will find it hard to find people who will trust you again.

Also, the more work you put into your faction the better it will become, as the respect you gain from chaining will help you unlock more upgrades. It is in your best interests to contribute to your faction's chains in future, as the consequences of being discovered outweigh the small gains you make from happy jumping.

Good luck!
Aunty

Hello Aunty Torn,

I have been a reviver for a little while and I offer what most call "freevives". The main reason being that I don't have enough time to be online and negotiate revive contracts, I just do it for the merits and donations I get. And most people are very generous.

But somehow, I still find myself stumbling sometimes on people that complain about being revived without asking...for free! They sometimes insult me and say I should at least ask before reviving. I'm tired of telling them to turn their revives off. What would you say to them in my place?

Given your multiple cardiac arrests and heavy medical history, you must have a lot of experience with being revived. Maybe your point of view will open my eyes on something I missed.

P.S. Will I ever be able to revive you one day? That way, you could leave a comment in my reviver thread

Dearly,
Janick

Dear Janick,

Your generosity has warmed Aunty's cockles, but you must develop a thicker skin to survive in Torn. Kindness is rare in this city, and when it happens to some people they are like a dog with a microwave - they don't know how to deal with it.

If you want to avoid having to negotiate revive contracts consider joining a revive faction, as this will be done for you. If you wish to continue handing out freevives I would suggest you start asking first. I myself have "Do Not Resuscitate" tattooed above my pelvis. Not everyone wants to continue living. And if you accidentally revive a trader who is then buymugged, you could be on the hook for billions!

All the best,
Aunty

My loved Aunty,

A friend of mine is mugging someone every day, this "player" asked him to stop, but he wouldn't, he has been doing this for around three months now. If this happens to any one of us, how can we stop it? (without getting our network depleted).

Love you forever Aunty,

Anon.

Dear Anon,

This kind of behavior usually stops after a while as bullies get bored. If it doesn't and you are concerned then confront your friend directly, as a player's reputation is second only to their battle stats in terms of importance, and you might become guilty by association with them.

If you yourself are bounty bullied then the best advice is to try and ignore them and wait it out. If that doesn't work, speak to your faction leader and see if they are willing to help. You could also contact the bully's company owner or faction leader too, as while bounties are expected in Torn, leaders and directors might not want to be known as someone who hires a troublemaker.

But do not, under any circumstances, go whining publicly to the forums. If you do, Aunty will join in and beat the hell out of you with her handbag.

Good luck!
Aunty

Dear Aunty,

Why is it that every time I attack someone with a profile picture that states "no dog tags", or "not participating in the dog tag competition", I find dog tags?!? Could they possibly be lying? A grand ruse?

Please elucidate this mystery.

Tad_Lasso

Dear Ted_Lasso,

People lie on the internet.

All the best,
Aunty

Dear Auntie,

I'm a bit of the creative type, most likely the result of untreated ADHD and blunt-force trauma to my head via 9-iron at a young age. Because of this, I've had a plethora of ideas for Torn items, their corresponding stats, and the possibility of different mechanics and features. Is there any way I can get in touch with the head honchos, or am I simply S.O.L.?

I wish you the best, Merry Christmas!

Dear Confused Content Creator,

Ideas are like children; everyone thinks theirs are the best, but most are full of... well, Aunty was raised too well to finish that sentence. Now then, I'm sure your ideas are wonderful and interesting and all, but there are people paid to do this whose ideas are likely better because they understand the way Torn works behind the scenes. There are many things the developers want to add to Torn, but all of them must be thought through and such.

That being said, your ideas might be good, but getting in touch with the "head honchos" directly isn't the way to pitch them. The Suggestions forum should be your first priority. Post your best idea here along with an explanation of how it works and why anyone should care. If the community agrees, the developers will reply to your post, and your idea might be used.

You might also want to apply to the Committee the next time it's open for applications, where changes to Torn are discussed between knowledgeable players - and Harley too.

Best of luck!
Aunty

As ever, all of the people who sent in the queries you've just read will be given a lovely little Donator Pack as a gift. If you'd like to ask Aunty a question, you can do so by sending her a message titled Aunty Torn via the Tell Your Story feature.
