$35 billion paid to secure deadly nuclear device for Subversive Alliance leader. Fee represents second-highest auction house price in history.
Duke's Dirty Bomb auction ended at midnight on December 31st with miro, the leader of Subversive Alliance emerging as the victor. Miro's winning bid of $35,816,250,001 makes this Dirty Bomb the second most valuable item to be sold at auction, overtaking Jas' $30 billion payment for a set of Dual MP5s earlier this year - the $52 billion paid by Chaos_Greg for St Paul's Abbey remains the overall record.

"I think this was a massive bargain compared to what the market has been dictating as of late. When the bomb goes off quite a few of the biggest whiners torn has ever seen will be shaking in their boots. To me, this is the best use of torn dollars possible!" - miro

Miro's winning bid was so large that it incurred a $1 billion auction house fee for its seller, Shirley Prima Dante Calabrese. It was expected that the DB's price may have been higher than the $35 billion it eventually sold for, given that only a few factions are able to successfully organise a Dirty Bomb production. However, the final fee may have been limited by the auction's New Year's Eve closing date, and the overall cost of a DB remaining stable in recent months.

The other items sold by Duke at auction were a Hazmat Suit and a Toy Reactor collectable. The Hazmat went to Grif for $6,100,000,001. Grif is a Torn Officer and the leader of PT-IronHearts, and while he doesn't believe his faction is under threat from a DB - they are a training faction after all - he thinks it's good to be prepared nonetheless. Grif has been trying to purchase a Hazmat for four years and regrets not buying one sooner when their price was closer to $2 billion.

"Hindsight is 20/20 right, if I had known it would have gone up to avg $7-9 bn for a hazmat id have snatched that one up with both hands. I've had some money invested for a while, so to me, $6.5bn was as much as I was willing to spend which is a good chunk of change. I'm pretty happy with $6.1bn although that extra dollar was annoying for OCD sake, was sure someone was gonna bid about 7b to be fair." -

Grif believes that the price he paid means he should earn his money back if he ever decides to sell the Hazmat. He went on to note that someone in PT-IronHearts recently bought the same item for $9 billion, making his auction purchase even more of a bargain. Elsewhere, the Toy Reactor collectable sold for $2,104,645,801 to Vernunzio, a soldier in the Chain Reaction faction. He also felt he had gotten a good deal out of this event.

"The 2.1b or so is a reasonable price. Will most likely keep it in my display... Collecting used to be my top goal in Torn years and years ago. Not so much anymore, but I still add a nice item if opportunity strikes. I have also sold a few recently. I don't have my sights set on anything [else] in particular."

Three further items were also auctioned off on New Year's Eve by Duke's henchman, Jimmy. The Dual Samurai Swords were won by Enrhik, the co-leader of LONDON, who paid $1,550,000,001 for the weapon. The Snowflake '05 was won by Bugz, a Bikini Model in the Itsi Bitsi Bikini faction, who paid $855,000,001 for the collectable item. And finally, Murd0Maniak, a member of PT-Calculated leadership, placed a winning bid of $385,000,001 to secure themselves the Santa's Elf '09 collectable. Congratulations to all of the winners.
