Billion-dollar racing competition begins this weekend. 48 qualifying spots available over four days of racing. Rare Bugatti Veyron on offer for tournament champion. $10 billion prize pot to be shared.
The qualifying rounds for the Ultimate Racing Tournament 2021 Winter Rally begin in the small hours of Saturday morning, with the first race set to open up at 00:00 TCT on the 16th of January. You can view the full schedule of qualifiers over in the Racing Forum, where the Official URT Qualification Thread is located.

There are 28 qualifiers scheduled for Saturday, with each one opening up roughly an hour before they begin. To find an official qualifier, you simply need to look for the gold-marked races under the Custom Race tab at the Race Track. Only players who have been designated as URT Stewards will be able to set races with gold flair, so if any race appears in normal white text, you can be sure that shenanigans are afoot.

Please note that some gold races will appear on Friday the 15th for testing purposes. You may join these races to test your car setups if you wish, but your times will not count towards qualification.

Once you have joined an official race, entrants should still check that the details are correct, as mistakes do happen. Since we are relying on volunteers to create these races some of them may be slightly late, and occasionally we may have a no show. Replacement races may be arranged where possible. However, if any of the details below are incorrect, then a race will not be counted towards the URT qualification standings, regardless of whether it was set up by an official steward.

Track: Parkland (16th) Speedway (17th) Two Islands (18th) Sewage (19th)
Laps: 10
Cars Allowed: Any Class
Upgrades: Yes

The qualification rules are simple. To qualify for the URT, you must post one of the twelve fastest times of the day at any one of the four qualifying sessions. Each session takes place at a different track, with 28 qualifiers open on Saturday, 29 on Sunday, and 31 on both Monday and Tuesday. You may enter as many qualifiers as you like, unless you have qualified already, at which point you may not enter any more qualification races.

The twelve fastest times for each day will be updated in the official URT thread throughout the session, but the qualifying drivers will only be determined when the last race has run at 23:00 TCT. This process is repeated four times, giving us twelve qualifiers from each day's racing, with a total of 48 drivers making it through to the main event.

MAIN TOURNAMENT

If you qualify for the Winter Rally, you will be notified the following day after the full session has been completed. Once all four sessions have been run, our 48 drivers will then be required to race every day from the 22nd of January through to the 7th of February, with one rest day scheduled for the 31st of January. The main tournament races will be setup over twelve hours before their start time of 22:00 TCT, with passwords sent out by our stewards via direct message.

The URT Winter Rally format sees all 48 drivers race against each other over 20 laps across each one of Torn's sixteen race tracks. The times you post are added to your total continuously throughout the event, with the Winter Rally spreadsheet constantly updated so that everyone knows exactly where they stand. Every race counts in the Winter Rally, as your final position determines how much prize money you receive, with first getting $1 billion, and 48th receiving $50 million.

Drivers who miss a race or crash out will receive a penalty time calculated by adding 1% to the slowest time posted on that track on that day. Drivers who miss multiple races will see their prize money reduced. If a Dirty Bomb or outage affects the URT, the organisers will arrange replacement races to ensure everyone has posted a time on each track.

After the final race at Stone Park, the driver with the fastest overall time is crowned our URT Winter Rally champion. Our winner will receive $1 billion, a Gold Racing Trophy, and a Bugatti Veyron. Our runner-up will take home $750 million, a Silver Racing Trophy, and the rare Audi S3. Our third-placed driver will receive $500 million, a Bronze Racing Trophy, and a Racing Coin. All of the top three will also receive the usual points and ribbons for winning a Community Event.

The remaining drivers will receive amounts varying from $50-400 million depending on where they placed. The organisers will also choose one low DS driver to receive $100 million based on their performances during the tournament.

BONUS EVENTS

If you fail to qualify for the URT Winter Rally, then don't worry, because there are plenty of other chances to win big from racing over the coming weeks. To celebrate the final weekend of the event, we run several themed races over the 6th and 7th of February where players must finish last, 13th, 69th, or in other random positions to win a cash prize. Details of these races will be announced in due course.

PREZZE'S WRECKFEST

If it's competitive action you're after, then why not sign up for Prezze's Wreckfest. This player-run racing event takes places as soon as the URT has finished, is free-to-enter, and is currently accepting signups. Wreckfest is unique in that it places drivers in a head-to-head battle against each other, with a points-based group stage followed by a straight knockout format.

Your chances of winning a prize in this event are quite high, and players with a DS lower than 9 also have a chance to win big if they enter the Newbie tournament which runs concurrently. The Torn City Times has donated $1 billion to support this tournament and boost its prize pool, with further donations welcomed by the organisers. Registrations for this event end at 23:59 TCT on the 5th of February.

BANNER COMPETITION

Don't forget that we also have the URT Banner Competition running over at the graphics forum. We've had some great entries already, but with a closing date of the 31st of January you still have plenty of time to enter!
