With Torn's Employee Appreciation event just a few days away, read our guide on how to use this event efficiently, whether you're an employer or an employee!
Are you one of Torn's jobless layabout scumbags? Don't worry, you are far from alone, as almost half of the city is now registered as unemployed. But this week is the time to turn your life around and enter the world of work, you lazy little s**t, as Employee Appreciation Day arrives on the 4th of March!
TRIPLE TRAINS!
Employee Appreciation Day runs for 48 hours from noon on the 4th to noon on the 6th of March. During this time, anyone employed in a company will receive three times the benefit from Director Trains as usual. Director Trains usually only add 50 and 25 to your Primary and Secondary work stats. However, throughout Employee Appreciation Day, trains will now gain you 150 and 75 Primary and Secondary stats respectively.

Directors are limited as to how many training sessions they can provide in a set period of time, so employees should book theirs well in advance. Company Directors are assigned one training session per day per star rating, and they can save up a maximum of 20 trains in total. It is therefore advisable that Directors keep a full stack of 20 trains in anticipation of Employment Appreciation Day, and then use them as quickly as possible after 12:00 on the 4th. This will ensure that your stocks replenish when the company updates are applied in the evening.

Companies receive new trains at approximately 6-7pm each evening. According to our calculations, a 10-star company could therefore perform a maximum of 40 trains during Employee Appreciation Day, which will now be the equivalent of 120 trains due to the triple training boost provided. Below is a simple director's training schedule we suggest for maximum effectiveness.
28-4th - Save your director trains
4th - 12:00 - Perform 20 trains
4th - 19:00 - 10 trains added
4th - 19:00 - Perform 10 trains
5th - 19:00 - 10 trains added
5th - 19:00 - Perform 10 trains
The numbers above are representative of what a 10-star company would receive in terms of trains, but the overall schedule can be followed by firms of any level. Furthermore, please note that we have used the time of 19:00 as a rough guide for when Director Trains are replenished. So long as you use up all of your allocated trains after the company updates and before the next batch is provided, you should be golden.
Additional trains can also be gained through the use of the trainer role if your company has it available. Trainers are called different things at different companies, so take a look at the Wiki to find out which role you need to utilise. iribuya says that if you put ten of your employees in the trainer role for three days you can get 20 trains on the daily refresh.

In return for a short-term hit, you could end up with a whole team of upgraded employees by following iribuya's method. He recommends that you should change ten of your employees to the trainer role on the 4th at noon, just after you've performed the first twenty trains of Employee Appreciation Day.

Employee Appreciation Day also provides workers with three times as many job points as usual, and this applies to employees in both private companies and starter jobs. The EA Day boost previously only applied on the 5th of March, but it has now been expanded to include the 4th of March too too. Job Points are generated every evening at between 6-7pm, meaning that only two triple job point payouts will be made during this event.
Employees in one of the six starter jobs take between one and ten job points per day, depending on their rank and industry. A General in the Army usually gains 10 job points per day, but will now gain 30 points on the 4th and another 30 points on the 5th for a total of 60 job points during Employee Appreciation Day. However, a Dealer at the Casino will only gain 6 job points compared to the usual 2 over this period. It is therefore advised that employees in starter jobs rank up as soon as possible in order to gain the maximum amount of points from EA day.

Employees and Directors at private companies gain one job point per day per star rating, regardless of their position or effectiveness. Their points are also paid out every evening, meaning that anyone in, for example, a 5-star company will get a total of 30 job points during this event. This means that during Employee Appreciation Day, it is temporarily more beneficial to work at a 10-star Theater than a 3-star TV Network - from a job points perspective at least.
Either way, players should make sure they are employed in some capacity during Employee Appreciation Day, as otherwise you risk missing out on a valuable boost to your working stats and job points!
THE JOBS MARKET
We thought we'd take this opportunity to have a quick look at how the jobs market has been affected by Torn's rapidly increasing population. Torn had 1,244,123 citizens as of the 26th of February 2021, with 49% currently out of work. In February 2018, Torn was home to 683,777 people, of whom 48% were unemployed.
Of those with jobs, the number of people in private companies compared to the starter jobs has fallen from 8.1% in 2018 to 6.2% today. However, this is likely due to the fact that some citizens tend to pitch up in starter jobs before they leave Torn for a temporary hiatus, as do those who take a look around the place and scarper after only a few days.
The number of people working in the Army has increased massively for this same reason, as its highest rank provides even dormant accounts with 10 daily job points. Only 29.8% of Torn's working people were employed by the military in 2018, compared to 41.1% today. Most of these people seem to have been drawn from the Medical industry, where a drop of 9.3% has been observed over the past three years.
