Let The Hunt Begin

Easter Egg Competition began at noon today. Citizens expected to look out for little globules of colour on every page for the next three weeks. Easter Bunny refuses to give up Egg-Launcher.
Torn's city-wide Easter Egg Hunt began at noon today, with citizens already eggscited at the prospect of picking up numerous coloured eggs off the ground. And if this practice seems unsanitary, that's because it is! Especially now that we know who's been laying them.

We'll discuss the Easter Bunny later, but first, let's explain what you have to do over the course of the next three weeks if you want to nab some free candy.

THE EASTER EGG HUNT

From noon on the 5th of April until the same time on the 25th, one of ten multicoloured eggs has a small chance to spawn on any of Torn's pages when you visit them. You might find a blue egg on the Casino page, a yellow egg on the Forums, or a brown egg at the Gym - especially if someone's overexerted themselves.

If you see a coloured egg on your page, make sure you click it, as if you don't it will be gone forever and you will be sad. Clicking on an egg will put it in your inventory, where it can be consumed for 50 happiness points. However, upon picking it up you will also gain a special effect depending on which colour egg you've found. This year, we have a brand new purple egg for you, with this one providing 10 Mission Credits upon its discovery. Here's what all the eggs do when they are clicked.

In case you're using a screen reader, smartphone, or a souped-up pregnancy test to browse Torn, here's a list of what the eggs do in readable form.

Blue Egg - $100,000
Green Egg - 50 Energy
Red Egg - 10 Nerve
Yellow Egg - 250 Happiness
White Egg - 5 Points
Black Egg - Crime Experience
Brown Egg - 100 Work Stats
Orange Egg - 50 Casino Tokens
Pink Egg - Experience
Purple Egg - 10 Mission Credits

NOTE: The values for yellow and blue eggs have been swapped this year, hence why an earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that blues provide happiness and yellows give cash.

Players can eat or sell their collected eggs at any time of the year if they so desire, but if you have the full set of ten, you can exchange them for 20 points and a Gold Egg over at the Competitions page. The first time you do this you will also receive the Good Friday honor bar and a handshake from Jesus, but according to our calculations, exchanging a full set isn't really worth it once you've done it once already.

EGG MATHS

The Gold Egg provides 250 happiness when eaten and is worth $1.5 million on the open market. This, coupled with the $900,000 worth of points you'll receive adds up to $2.4 million. The White Easter Egg is worth $2.3 million alone on the item market, and the total market value of all nine original eggs is $4 million - when purple is added, it could top $5 million. Therefore, if you've already exchanged a set of eggs for the honor bar, we'd recommend selling or eating them instead of doing it again. But I'm not your mother (probably), do as you please.

Of course, the value of Easter Eggs could change now that Dark Mode has been enabled. The White Egg is so valuable because of its rarity, as even though it spawns at the same rate as the other eggs, players often find it hard to see on Torn's traditional grey background. Now that Dark Mode has been introduced, we may see more Whites being found (racist), and that might lower its price somewhat - the circulation of Black Eggs might become slightly lower too (also racist, probably).

COMPETITION TOKENS

Regardless of whether you sell, eat, or exchange your eggs, the number of hen secretions you collect will determine how many Competition Tokens you receive at the end of the event. Players must collect enough eggs to finish in the top 10% of the leaderboard to receive the maximum ten competition tokens. These tokens can then be used to acquire nifty hairstyles and unique backgrounds for Torn.

The egg collecting record was broken in 2020 when Ahab, Rob_Snow, and Neil_Peart all found 27 eggs during the hunt. To finish in the top 10%, you needed to find a minimum of 13 eggs last year. We think both of these figures will go up this year, as the number of eggs being collected has increased year on year. Here's a little graph showing previous years' totals and the predicted totals for those yet to come.

Based on previous trends, we think players may need to collect as many as 15 eggs this year to make it into the top 10%. We have calculated this by looking at 2019's cutoff of 11, scrutinising 2020's figure of 13, and making the gargantuan mental leap into the trenches of assumption by predicting it will increase by two once more. Stephen Hawking eat your a** out.

Finally, if you'd like to know how to maximise your egg collection over the next three weeks, shove your face into this expert guide we provided back in 2019. Looking back, there are no more than five tips written up, of which about two are actually useful. Enjoy!

EGGSPERT GUIDE

THE EASTER BUNNY

The Easter Bunny will be on the prowl until the end of April, scurrying around secreting eggs wherever his little paws are able. This new NPC is also lootable, with numerous rabbit and Easter-themed items available to those who take him down. Have you looted him yet? If so, you might want to give it a damn rest if you want some high-value items.

Many players have already acquired some neat little goodies from Mr Cottontail. Twelve Rabbit's Feet have been looted so far, with less than 200 of these in circulation as of Monday morning. They sometimes go for several billion on the item market, but their value will surely dwindle over the coming month.

The new Bunny Nose item has also been looted eight times, leading to a valuation of roughly $300 million a pop so far. Ski Masks, another new item, are valued slightly lower at about $250 million, with eleven looted since the 1st of April. We've also seen Goodie Bags and Frying Pans looted too, but these aren't that exciting.

The two items on everyone's wish list are the Bunny Suit and the Egg Propelled Launcher. Regarding the former, only eight of these existed before the Easter Bunny came out to play, and that has now increased to nine after Pacto nabbed one early on the 1st of April. Pokey477 is the only person offering one for sale at the oh-so reasonable price of $7.4billion.

Egg Launchers are even rarer, with just five in existence as of noon today - two of these are owned by the Easter Bunny himself and Chedburn. In our Market Report, we were told by Vasto-Lorde that pokey477 was also one of the three player owners. Our investigations tell a different story, with the three Egg-Launchers currently in the possession of aerozol, Leukybear, and Tom_kz. If pokey477 does own one of these bad boys, it must be out on loan.

EDIT: Pokey's launcher is reportedly on loan to the LONDON faction.

Of these players, Leukybear is the only one who appears to be inactive, leaving two launchers in the hands of active players. If more egg-launchers are to enter circulation, the Easter Bunny's assailants will have to show restraint and let him get to the highest loot levels. Only then will the Egg Propelled Launcher be prised from his cute little wabbit paws.

tl;dr: Eggs will appear on your page from today until the 25th. Collect them.
tl;dr: Let the Easter Bunny reach loot level 4 or you can forget about getting an egg-launcher.
