Find out what we the developers did this month, why they did it, and how it will affect you in this round-up of April's most notable Patch Notes.
Torn's Patch Notes round-ups are back! Read on to find out about the most notable changes we've made to Torn over the past month, along with what these changes mean for you, your friends, and the people you hate.
Patch List #187
Released Stocks 3.0.
This change has already been discussed in great detail in both the forums and this newspaper. In short, the new stock system is more dynamic, as it allows for quicker price movements, instant buying and selling, and more realistic stock performance. The ability to gain additional active stock dividends has also been added, with the benefit block share requirement doubling at each increment.
Stock dividends now payout at 7 or 31-day intervals, and some of the dividends have been adjusted or replaced. Players must now pay a 0.1% fee on all stock sales, and cannot trade stocks directly with other players, or buy and sell stocks while flying. The TCSE 30 has also been removed.
Added Automatic Item Equipping
Inactive players with a free weapon, armor, or clothing slot can now be dressed up as you please by simply sending them an item. If, for example, an inactive has no primary weapon, and you send them an MP5k using your inventory page, this gun would automatically be equipped by the inactive. A player must be inactive for 7 days before this function is possible.
One unintended side-effect of this change was that players have started to send armor to lootable NPCs where slots are available. This was done in order to extend NPC loot fights, but it is my sad duty to report that this will soon no longer be possible. Another side-effect is that certain Duke missions may be made slightly harder if your target has been equipped with armor or weapons. Please let us know if you find any instances of this whereby the mission has been rendered impossible - a scenario we believe to be unlikely to occur.
Added Purple Egg
A new Purple Easter Egg has been added which gives +10 mission credits when collected. The number of coloured collectible eggs needed to complete a full set of Easter Eggs during the Easter Egg Competition has now gone up from nine to ten.
New Company Employees
Players who join a new company are now given their own special "new employee" status during their first 72 hours. This status mimics the recruit status players receive upon joining a faction and is denoted through the use of a new icon. This feature will help directors quickly recognise which employees are unable to use specials or receive company trains, as these abilities are restricted during your first 72-hours at the company.
Logistic Report Restrictions
The Logistics Management special, Logistics Report, can no longer be provided to another company if it has received one within the past six days. This special provides a temporary productivity boost to the target company for a total of seven days.
We noticed that some players were wasting their Logistics Reports by having multiple applied to their company one day after the other. Logistics Reports do not stack, either in terms of effectiveness or duration. If, for example, you apply one on the 17th and another on the 18th, each additional report would simply reset the report period and give you a new seven-day boost, meaning you would lose the remaining six days from the original report.
To prevent this pointless act being repeated, you can no longer give a logistics report to any company if they have more than one day left on their old one.
IQ Scores
The addition and subsequent removal of the IQ score from players' personal stats page was an April Fool's joke. We all laughed very hard until our tummies hurt.
Patch List #188
This patch list mostly consisted of low-key changes, such as new Dark Mode styles for Bazaar & Ammo pages, a new supply pack animation for Goodie Bags, plus a few tweaks to various descriptions and API additions.
Patch List #189
Grace Period
A 15-second grace period has been given to all players who land in Torn or abroad. During this period, travellers cannot attack others or be attacked themselves. This measure was brought in to prevent players who use status monitoring scripts from being able to instantly mug travellers upon landing.
The removal of players' ability to buy stocks while flying meant that those who withdrew money from the Caymans bank were particularly susceptible to high-value mugs about which they could do nothing about. While Torn wants to maintain a landscape of reasonable risks and rewards, such a one-sided situation was not acceptable. The introduction of a grace period was deemed the least intrusive way we could prevent this from becoming a bigger problem.
Stock Changes
Several minor changes to the new stocks system were made in Patch List #189. The first was the application of a 0.1% fee to all stock sales. Stock sales were free for the first two weeks of the new system to allow players to rid themselves of unwanted stocks. The new 0.1% fee will be calculated and displayed to players before their sale is confirmed. The total amount of stock fees you have paid historically is now displayed in your Personal Stats.
We have also added persistent column sorting to the Stock Market page. Players can now click the various headers to sort stocks alphabetically by name, numerically by price or value of owned shares, and according to your dividend earning status. Furthermore, a gold variant of the Stock Market icon has been created to indicate when you have collectible dividends awaiting collection. This icon will appear as usual under the Information bar.
The final stock market change from this patch list saw major movements in stock prices being added to the News Ticker.
Patch List #190
Dividend Red Warnings
When a player tries to sell their shares in a stock from which they are currently earning a dividend, they will now receive a red warning if this sale will cause them to lose said dividend. If, for example, you own 3,000,000 shares in Torn & Shanghai Banking, you would currently be receiving $50 million a month due to your ownership of a full benefit block. If you decide to sell 100,000 shares, this will dip you below the 3,000,000 dividend requirement, and the system will alert you to the fact that your benefits will no longer be provided.

This warning should also appear if you own multiple benefit blocks but your share sale will result in the loss of one or more of them. For example, if you have enough shares to own three benefit blocks but your sale will drop you down to two, a similar warning to the one above will appear before you complete your transaction.
Log Added to API
Torn's newly expanded log has now been made available to the API. Users must reset their API keys at any point after the 27th of April in order to utilise this feature.
