Dog Tags 2021 Cancelled

Tag-collecting event moved to Spring 2022 in order to break up period of attacking competitions. New events to be considered in future. Player suggestions encouraged.
Chedburn has confirmed that the 2021 Dog Tags tournament has been cancelled, with the tournament set to return next year with an earlier start date of May. The rescheduling of one of Torn's biggest attacking events had been mooted for some time, and our Community Manager bogie confirmed the news in response to Dog Tags' removal from the calendar in a thread last week.

Chedburn has now double-confirmed the temporary absence of Dog Tags in his latest Patch List. When interviewed by the Torn City Times, the Torn supremo confirmed that Dog Tags was moved due to the community suffering from attack fatigue towards the end of the year.

"Players expressed a desire to split up the attacking-related events to other months of the year, as previously there were three back-to-back in a single 'attack season'."

With Elimination taking place in September, the scheduling of Dog Tags in November was always a little inconvenient, as it meant there was just one month between Torn's two biggest attacking tournaments. This often resulted in factions being unable or unwilling to plan wars or other big events during October, given that their members were either recovering from one competition or preparing for the next.

This perineum of violence was inflamed further with the application of the irritant known as Halloween. The Trick or Treat competition, originally a 48-hour event, was expanded to cover one week in 2020, adding yet another period of attacking for Torn's battle-weary citizens. Halloween will remain in place at the end of October - we have neither the authority nor desire to change the date of All Hallows' Eve - but this will now be the final attacking competition of the year.

Chedburn has confirmed that Dog Tags 2022 will take place from the 5th to the 25th of May. The rescheduling of this event leaves Torn's calendar with a few windows open where new competitions may be run, and Chedburn is open to the inclusion of new events, provided they are worthwhile.

"There's many months available for new events. Eventually, I hope each one is filled with a meaningful and highly anticipated event."

Discussions are currently ongoing regarding a potential new competition to be added to the roster in future, one that will not involve stabbing, shooting, or otherwise injuring your fellow competitors - unless you really want to. Torn welcomes your suggestions for additional events, and Chedburn added that this is also true regarding future changes to the Dog Tags tournament itself.

"We're always open to meaningful feedback and suggestions. If there are ideas for drastic improvements, we'll certainly look into that. However, we're not keen on making changes just for the sake of changes, as we've already got a lot on our plate."

If you have any suggestions for a new competition that isn't focused on attacking, please post them in the Suggestions forum. If you've already made a thread or you want your recent suggestion to be considered by the guy whose Patch List task list specifically mentions Event Planning, feel free to drop me a DM with a link to your proposal. Here are a few things to consider when suggesting an event:

  • Is your event actually fun, or does it just sound like it might be on paper?
  • Would your event require a huge amount of developer time, or does it use existing assets and data?
  • What are the rules for your event? And is cheating possible?
  • Is your event a solo competition, or would it be better in teams?
  • Will the winners of your event be limited to a small pool of experienced players, or does it require effort and / or strategy?
  • Could an idiot understand your event? Confirm this by running it past Evil Duck first.
