PunKake takes $100 million prize. Three runner-ups receive $10 million. Read on to find out which rules and suggestions you must follow to have your comic accepted.
PunKake has won the inaugural Economist's Comic Prize for May, with his outstanding effort nabbing the artist a cool $100 million. The Economist, aka Lt_Wolf, decided to offer this prize in an attempt to improve the level of comics submitted to the Torn City Times.

"It was a tough choice between the Human Wall and the Bisected Pilot. I love how both highlight the subtle absurdity of life on Torn. Ultimately the art style of the Human Wall secured the win."

PunKake's illustrative style is both unique and highly refined, and this is precisely the kind of entry we want to see in the Torn City Times comic section. There were lots of good entries last month, and we hope this continues with the $100 million prize on offer once more in June.

And in addition to the main prize of $100 million, Lt_Wolf has generously decided to award $10 million to a select group of runners-up. Metalzsolt was one of three runner-ups chosen by Lt_Wolf, with the others being Crampi and Wild_Husky. You can find each of their entries below.

Congratulations to PunKake and to the three runner-ups. Each of these players has already had their prize paid out using a cheque, so there's absolutely no point in mugging them unless you want to waste some energy. Lt_Wolf has indicated he may or may not award runner-up prizes in future, with his decision based on the quality of the comics supplied.

If you'd like to know what it takes to get a comic published and what you need to avoid then submitting, why not take a look at this article we published on the subject back in 2019. All comics published between the 1st and the 30th of June will be eligible for this month's prize. Here are a few general tips to let you know what exactly we're looking for:

  • Is your idea original? Or are you just pointing out the difference between Torn and real-life again?
  • Why not try making your comic topical? Things are happening all the time, and people like to remember these things with pictures.
  • Have you taken the time to draw your comic neatly, or does it look like a horse painted it with its feet?
  • Is your comic funny, entertaining, and interesting? Or is it a niche reference to your faction drama that nobody cares about?
  • Did you make your comic using a comic maker? If so, try re-reading the rules again, with your eyes this time.
  • Did you steal someone else's artwork to make this comic? That's not very nice. Now we're going to punish you.
  • Have you considered drawing your comic by hand? We'll be impressed if you have.
  • If I've rejected your comic before, are you considering sending me a message that complains about other people's entries? If so, how about you don't do that and just ask what you can improve instead, you big baby.
