Find out who won this month's Economist's Comic Prize, and which of August's comics were deemed good enough for a runner-up spot.
Silver8520 has won August's comic prize after Torn's Economist picked out their entry as the best strip submitted to Torn's comic page last month. Their comic depicts the mad rush players experience when trying to grab the cheap beers offered for sale at Bits and Bobs each day.

Artist: Silver8520

Based on the drawing style, Silver8520's comic looks to have been the result of a collaboration with regular contributor Slockins101. Collaborations of this nature are allowed so long as no money, items, or nudes change hands. Silver8520 will receive $100 million for sending in the winning entry. Congratulations!

$10 million will also go to each of our seven runner-ups as chosen by Lt_Wolf. This is the highest number of runner-ups our Economist has ever chosen, so you would think this means he was impressed by the quality of the comics sent in throughout August. Think again.

"Honestly all the comics were pretty crap this month. I expect better! Here are the few that stood out by being okay."

You still have two days to enter a comic for a chance to win September's comic prize, with the final round of entries being accepted on Thursday.
If Lt_Wolf's words of encouragement have inspired you to send in a comic to the Torn City Times, then please make sure you read the rules before doing so, and read this article too. Then, once you've done that, consider the following pointers, which are based on the comics I've received this month.

  • Don't take an existing comic idea, draw it slightly differently, and send it in. I'm drunk, but I'm not that drunk that I wouldn't notice.
  • Do try and get some more topical and event-based comics sent in. Those are always worth seeing.
  • Don't just draw a thing that happens in Torn without adding your own take on it. That's boring. It makes me sad.
  • Do try to think outside the box by looking at patch lists (recent changes) and forums (drama) for inspiration.
  • Don't collaborate with the same people over and over again. It's getting a bit samey now.
  • Do try to save work-in-progress shots of your work if you are a spectacularly good artist. I sometimes need to check these if your comic looks too good.
