Find out who won what and why in our recap of the Halloween Community Event results!
Judging has finally been completed on the Halloween Community Events and Lucky Dip thread, with all prizes now paid out to those lucky enough to have been chosen. If you didn't receive a prize and you'd like to know who to hate and who to complain about, here's a quick rundown of who won what and why.
TRICK OR TREAT MOVIE
This competition asked entrants to shoot and edit a short film based on the act of trick or treating in Torn City. Hogfather took first place in this event thanks to his movie about a knife-wielding skeleton, a piece we thought was well shot, competently edited, and packed with fun references and daft noises. Second place went to Toych for a tense movie that was shot and executed to a high technical standard - on another day, this one could've been the winner.

Joint third was given to Thtboz and Heasleys4hemp. Thtbox's movie was the latest in what appears to be a series focusing on the exploits of the Easter Bunny. Having spent the first installment being covered in piping hot urine, this chapter shows the bunny slaughtering a homeowner in cold blood, before ending on a cliffhanger confrontation with the Duke.
Heasleys4hemp's movie involves the lead character startling a woman and desecrating a grave in order to earn enough treats to summon the ancient one. This piece entertained the judges a great deal, and for some reason, we found the sound of sweets being slapped down on a pentagram incredibly satisfying.
HALLOWEEN DRESSUP
It was never going to be easy for anyone to beat RagnarLodbrok's depiction of the fictional Ragnar Lodbrock in this competition, and that's why nobody did. The judges were impressed with the level of effort and detail that went into RagnarLodbrok's entry, and he probably would've won even if he hadn't threatened to sacrifice our mothers, sisters, and first-born sons to the goddess Freyja.

Pictured: You dress up. This guy cosplays. You are not the same.
Sugarcube won second place in the dress-up event thanks to her innovative use of eye makeup. We still aren't sure if she has genuinely torn her own eyes out for a community event or not, but if she has, she's done it in a rather artistic manner. If she's used liquid latex to achieve this look, I bet it was a real bitch to peel off!
A joint-third prize was given to both Hair9795 and Lady_Blackfyre. Hair9795's entry was incredibly colourful and unique, and we also liked the fact that it was a skull heavy effort. Lady_Blackfyre's entry was more grotesque than anything else, and we enjoyed the peely-peely skin effects she applied to the side of her face - unless that was actually just her actual damaged face and the normal side was makeup. Either way, a fine effort indeed.
TORN MOVIE POSTER
In this competition, we asked you to create a movie poster for a horror film based in Torn City. Players were allowed to use either stock images or hand-drawn graphics, but our winner MissHap showed that unique artwork will always win out against a collection of googled clipart. Her entry was based on the horrifying effects of the flight delay special, and the judges were impressed by the concept and style of this entry, among many other things.

Pictured: If I could draw like this I would not be here right now judging this excellent poster.
Offertory came in second in this event and was unlucky not to place higher. Their entry featured warehouse arsons as its focus, and the judges loved the Hollywood romp style of the artwork involved - it wouldn't feel out of place on the cover of a Coen Brothers movie.
Joint third was given to Killerhumanoid and Ac3t0. If you're going to use stock images to create your poster, Killerhumanoid showed exactly how to do it. Their intelligent use of negative space impressed the judges, and we also liked that the background was all crumply and stuff.

Pictured: I would watch the shit out of this movie.
Ac3t0's entry was equally good, and it was actually quite hard to choose which one of their three efforts should be considered for a prize. Their use of models and photography to create their posters was most impressive, and that's why we plumped for their card-themed entry for joint third.
HALLOWEEN CARVING
We made a slight change to the carving event this year by allowing players to submit items other than pumpkins for our consideration. Most of the non-gourd efforts made us regret that decision, but there were one or two interesting pieces that gave us hope should we decide to do this again.
This contest was a particularly tough one to call, but in the end, the judges chose Zaccyw's anglerfish as the winner due to the strength of the idea. We actually think it looks more impressive unlit than lit, but if you want to see it all firey you can click this link.

Joint-second was given to DefyingGravity and Baxta. DG's depiction of Wile E Coyote appeared technically excellent, and if this contest were based on who owned the sharpest knife and most dextrous fingers, DefyingGravity would've won both first place and our phone numbers.
Baxta's entry was also admired by the judges. The design was simple and clear, with the lettering neatly carved and the use of shape and colour also impressive. We never said you can't use a pen or paints on these entries, only that the item you're using must in some way be carved. And it was!
We also gave joint-third places to WolfBastion and morbid-pinky. WolfBastion's carving of Maleficent was very well done indeed, and we wouldn't be surprised if he's cut a hole in the bottom of that pumpkin for private use. But we thought morbid-pinky's apple-based entry was equally good, as it was one of the few non-pumpkin submissions that felt original and thought through.

Pictured: Bone apple teeth? Yeah, that'll do for a caption.
HALLOWEEN BASKET
This event was new to 2021, as we asked players to create and/or decorate a Halloween Basket as used by trick or treaters. Aedstar was the clear winner of this event, with their severed head basket created entirely from scratch using styrofoam, paper mâché, duct tape, clay, and paint. Here's the creation video if you want to see how it was done!

Pictured: Don't sugar the pill for me doc. It's serious, isn't it?
Daisyju's entry was awarded second place thanks to her accurate depiction of Duke's miserable fat face. Her basket may prove a little flimsy if you try and hold more than a full-sized Mars Bar in there, but this contest was being judged on visual appeal, rather than structural integrity - a set of criteria I also use on dates too.
Third-place was given jointly to ShanRei and Toych. The judges enjoyed the mysterious glowing goo in ShanRei's entry, especially as much of it was hidden from view by the basket's spooky black tendrils. And we also adored the concept behind Toych's corpsed-themed entry too. With a little more finesse applied to the actual basket, this could've been a contender. We just hope that wasn't a real body he used.

CHEATING BASTARDS
This one isn't a competition, just a quick reminder that if you pay people for entries on freelancer sites we will find you. How? Because we're clever like that. Lustywilddexxy tried to buy an entry off Fiverr for THE SECOND TIME and we caught them FOR THE SECOND TIME and now they have spent time in federal jail FOR THE FIRST TIME but probably not the LAST TIME.
Don't do it kids. Not even once.
